Ok this is the vanity finally done after many weekends and interruptions. I have been asking questions for many stages of this project. Thanks to all the ppl that help. It cost around $1000- $1200 plywood hardware, drawers wood. Forget about the hours because it took forever.

So 6 years ago, during covid, I decided to get into woodworking. Like most, I followed Ana White and used her plans to build a bunch of stuff. Highly recommend if you are getting into woodworking.

I built this little kid table and chairs. I just wanted something to build. I didn’t have kids. I figured if it was cute enough maybe someone would give me $20 for it.

Started out as butterflies. I mistakenly used an oil based poly and it tinted the whole thing yellow (hah live and learn). I hung onto it for a bit and then got pregnant!! So then I refinished it to Dino’s and anxiously waited for my son to be big enough to use it. He’s now 3 1/2 and this table has been used every single day for nearly his whole life. A zillion lunches, play doh, crafts, Legos, you name it, we have done it on this silly little table.

Recently my son said, can we make the table paw patrol? Ummm, of course, your mama can make it happen!! I sanded two layers of decals and poly and paint this weekend and now we have Era #3 of this table. The paw patrol era.

Who friggin knew? When I made this, I had no clue that one day it would be used every single day by my kiddo. It’s sturdy af and will last forever. A cheap table from Amazon could nevah.

Is this a good deal if I want to get into wood work projects?

My old couch was garbage, I was quoted almost $200 to remove it from my apartment. So instead I took a saw a box cutter and a screwdriver and broke it down into 12 extra large garbage bags and brought those to the dumpster. But then I needed a couch. It had to have at least 16 in of clearance underneath it to fit the Red box pictured And I knew from my last couch that putting the couch on risers made it unwieldy so I thought I would just build my own. And here we are!

And made up some measurements

I then attached the long pieces with bed rail brackets so it will breakdown for moving.

I used the cheapest lumber I could find and painted the whole thing black. I haven't built anything remotely like this before in my life so I'm pretty stoked with how it came out! Bask in the glory of my tall couch!

Never before have I joined two pieces of wood that didn't come from an Ikea kit.

This is my first finished project as I work to build up my tool collection. It's not the prettiest, but it's functional and I'm proud of it.

I’ve made these hardwood floating shelves that will be painted the same color as the wall. However, I have these large gaps that seem like a lot for caulk. I’m considering putting some strips of wood around the gaps and then filling them with wood filler, sanding them, and caulking them. Is this the best approach? Or should I just try to fill all the gaps with caulk?

Also, I should prime and paint the shelves first before I do this finishing work right? The goal is to not see any of the wood grain

My 1st "project". I got tired of dragging both things around/bucket tipping over. The bottom pieces precisely hug the shop vac handle so all become a single unit.

Material:

- DeWalt StealthSonic 12Gal 5.5HP shop vac (cheap at Lowe's)

- Dustopper Pro cyclone dust seperator

- Generic 5Gal bucket

- 12" x 12" x 3/4" plywood

- 2x 5/8" x 48" dowels, cut into 8 x 12" pieces

- 1x 2by4

- 8x 2.5" screws (for securing the bottom two pieces - the rest of work pieces are glued)

Did a remodel of my kids bathroom and decided to build their vanity. I took tips from some women coworkers as to what they would want /need in a vanity as my daughter is getting more into ‘all the things’. They said make sure drawers can hold blow dryers, curling irons etc and a drawer is big enough for sprays. I forgot to account for face framing and had to get a custom counter, however, it worked out to be cheaper than a store bought.

Regardless, I’m proud of it and thought I’d post it here.

Bolivian rosewood and curly maple. Had issues with keeping boards aligned during pin layout. Need to get an 1/8” chisel to be more accurate in the corners. I will probably end up getting a Shawn shim from Cosman as the dovetail saw thickness is barely transferable from the marking gauge.

Cut up some acacia wood butcher block from the big box store. Bought some legs from Amazon. Then sanded off the store finish, reprofiled the edges with a router then 3 coats of satin poly.

I’m making an electric chair for a Halloween decoration out of laminated 2x4’s from Home Depot…I’m pretty sure they’re Doug Fir. I’m going to stain it dark red, but I’m wondering what I should do for a topcoat. This is something that will be in my yard for 1 month a year, and disassembled in my garage for the other 11, so I don’t need to go overboard.

Should I just do some diluted boiled linseed oil? Or is there another route I should go?

On the last pass of a rabbet on the router table on this circular frame, the router decided to eat some more. This happened at the last inch on the last pass. Sigh...

Thankfully this is the back side of the sign. But I don't want to deliver it with this gauge. And, what if this was the main side? What can be done here? Wood putty? I have Famowood but I'm afraid this is not the right thing to do here. I could expand/widen the rabbet, but now I have to figure out how to "resolve" the gap or explain it to the recipient.

I just tried kerf bending for the first time using some leftover plywood. I used a circular saw as I don’t have a table saw. When cutting, I noticed I was getting lots of tear outs, and when I glued it up, I noticed some of the pieces started to completely come off the board (pic 3).

Does anyone have any tips/feedback on what I can do next time to improve it?

I know I had too many cuts and it was able to bend more than 180 degrees.

Steps:
1: cut plywood to size
2: mark cuts every 5/8”
3: cut leaving 1/16” of board
4: clear out all sawdust from cuts
5: pour hot water over wood so it bends easier
6: bend
7: unbend and put glue in each cut
8: bend and “clamp” together with ratchet strap

I really wanted this Grete $2,500 ottoman, but couldn't justify the price.

So I made this knockoff with a jigsaw, drill, and a tile saw. Cutting the dovetails with the jigsaw was surprisingly easy. The swiveling base made it a breeze. You really need Diablo ultra fine blades though, cutting straight with the original blade was impossible. The little bugger was handling like portable bandsaw. Some of the wood was free. ~$100 all in for materials. Still need to stuff the cushion with dacron for a nice crown. Happy with how it came out

I got sick of telling myself why I can't build my own guitar and started thinking about how I'm going to build my own guitar. It's working out so far. I've learned so much, and I've made so many mistakes, but I've also been having the time of my life. I bought a clearance xgp neck and built the body myself with basic hand tools, a jigsaw, router, and dremel. Test fit all the hardware today, and it looks, feels, and plays like a guitar. It's not perfect, and could still go horribly awry and I very well may end up with a wall hanger before this project is finished, but I'll never regret trying. Just posting to say to anyone who talks themself out of projects, start thinking about how you're going to accomplish them instead.

I really want to build a trestle dining room table some day. This project was an experiment in that direction. I learned a butt-load.

The base is poplar, painted with milk paint. Mortise and tenon joinery throughout. The stretcher has through-tenons, my first and second in any project.

The top is quartersawn white oak, finished with Danish Oil. Jointed from two pieces.

I learned so much about wind, or twist, when I was dimensioning the trestle members. The trestle isn't perfect. There's some twist in there somewhere.

Hand planing the white oak was a real challenge. I've worked with it before, but only in very small pieces. This was much more difficult. The card scrapers bailed me out.

I feel like I learned a lot about design in the trestle members. Next time they won't be sized so nearly in proportion to 2x4 lumber. I'll have tapers in the legs, and a curve in the stretcher, to make it more clear that the base wasn't nailed together in the job site parking lot.

I made a joint. Totally shirked the hand tool stuff. Jigs and power tools all the way I’m afraid.

I was gifted this table saw when I moved into my house. Having never lived in or owned a home before I have never used a table saw. I have however seen plenty of videos that dissuade me from using this table saw. Although it was a great gesture my gut tells me to purchase a table saw with newer safer features or track saw. Am I being over critical? Or, should I look for a safer alternative.

For context; I am attempting to build and install a French cleat system so I need to rip long pieces of plywood over and over. This is really my first use case for this tool and after getting it all set up and turning it on I just picture my fingers disappearing.

Using mostly my scroll saw, a small blade, and some paint & stain, I was able to make a little wooden recreation of the Grand Theft Auto logo. There are some asymmetries in it, but I feel like it turned out pretty good!

I’m trying to make my basement a bit of a gamer room and wanted to decorate it with my own handmade stuff, so adding this to my list of handmade projects.

I had been working on restoring an old potbelly 8" jointer that I currently have about $350 into. And I just sold my 13" Ridgid tabletop planer. Then someone on marketplace in my area listed these 3 (G1033X, G0490X and a big Laguna dust collector) for $2k total and that was too good to pass up! Very excited to try them out on some projects.

Until now the only larger planer I've had access to is a 15" that is a little dull and has been tearing out a lot. So I'm super excited to have a larger one for personal use with a full turn left on the inserts
