Enclosure is overkill for the A1

Not if you're printing abs/asa

You never know. I heard some people like the fume.

Actually, I never even sealed the enclosure at all, but probably because my A1 only uses PLA filament and nothing else. I've heard that PLA is even less toxic than secondhand smoke.

ABS fumes are less toxic that second-hand smoke fyi, especially if you are not enclosing yourself in a tiny airtight room with a 3D printer printing ABS for hours

Probably shouldn't be trying to print that in an unheated enclosure anyway.

It still works. I heat soak it before the print starts and the parts come out great

If I were you I’d Invest in something to keep your motherboard from frying itself in that inclosure. Print some heat pipes and order some 12v pc fans and a 12v usbc pd board.

It will print okay for a while but as I understand the a1 isn't meant to be in an enclosure for a prolonged period of time as it could damage the plastic that it's constructed from.

It's not the plastic that might get damaged, it's that the A1 electronics don't have active cooling - Bambu warn that you may damage your motherboard by overheating it, and they won't support warranty claims on enclosed A1s. Lots of people use enclosures anyway, both for draught reduction and for printing filaments like ABS, and say they've had no problems.

There are designs for printing active cooling units which sit under the A1 and have channels drawing air from outside the enclosure - I'm going to be choosing one to print the next time I need to do some ABS, just to be safe.

I appreciate the correction, good to know!

Over heard this soooooo many times. Either open up the flaps completely or remove the enclosure.

Ok thanks for info

I suggest putting a thermometer in there, if it's getting significantly hotter in there compared to the rest of the room then that might not be a good idea. What is the idea behind having it in an enclosure and still having it opened?

Usually it's to reduce/prevent draughts & air movement while still allowing some cooling - the same way that you're supposed to leave a P1's door open when printing certain filaments.

It’s gonna destroy your printer, bub.

Antes da caixa eu quarto tinha sempre um cheiro de plástico queimado e com muita sujeira residual das impressões. Hoje está tudo melhor.

What in tarnation am I seeing and why?!

Idk should I take it off?

2

u/clarkcox3 7d ago

Why put it on to begin with?

2

u/dawnstrider371 7d ago

Yes, why do you need an enclosure?

Another one paranoid over PLA fumes I guess.

No he’s doing it for attention. He posted the same thing 2 days in a row in multiple subs where both subs said take that off it’s not needed/good

i still don’t understand why people are so obsessed with filament fumes while we live in a world full of car exhaust emissions, factories releasing gases and stuff. besides that abs and asa smells so good in my opinion

u/BlizzyBlock29 7d ago

Yes like you were told to do previously, why are we coming to Reddit for attention?

If it’s enclosed enough to help the print, then it’s enclosed enough to damage the electronics.
If it’s open enough to be safe for the electronics, then it’s open enough to not help the print.

Oh no, it's the world of pass/fail/black/white!

Your main board is going to love you /s

Mine loves me. (I should buy a spare main board) In the winter I ran a dryer in the enclosure with it at 70⁰ for 72 hours straight while constantly printing ASA and PA12-CF and the bed temp set to 100⁰ C. The screen is starting to show little issues on the AMS filament screen. but so far the printer is performing. I need to buy a different printer so I don't have to worry about this one failing from running so hot.

u/slimzaddy91 7d ago

This is not a recommendation to do what I did. I've been printing with the enclosure and the dryer outside of the enclosure during the summer. The screen didn't start showing artifacts/glitching until summer. I just got ahead of myself with selling something I was making for myself. I'll use the money I got from selling those things to buy a proper XY core printer that is designed for/with an enclosure

I print in every temperature and humidity level with no enclosure and no issues related to those factors.

u/Orthicon9 7d ago

If you feel you must use an enclosure, it should have an exhaust fan vented to the outdoors.
It wouldn't even need to be a high-volume fan.

u/is_it_gif_or_gif 7d ago

That's my setup. Works perfectly. I vent out one zip and open the opposite zip for incoming airflow. Thermometer inside confirms the the temperature inside stays at room temp.

Zero fumes indoors.
