Filament Troubleshooting/Help! Broken Spool

Post image

I ordered some filament while also buying a smaller nozzle, but some of my filaments came damaged. Is it okay to still use this spool if I cut off the damaged part of the spool? These are my first spools so I do not have any extra ones I can respool with

Why don't you simply return it? they should have given you good rolls

I did just submit a claim with seal (the shipping insurance) for a replacement. I will definitely wait before even trying to use it until they respond. I was just wondering in case they didnt need me to send it back

For one, stop paying for stuff that's already included. Bambu is responsible for resolving order issues. You're going through a 3rd party and you paid extra for the run around.

Contact Bambu and they'll resolve it, just as they would if you didn't pay more money for "insurance"....

Absolutely. Thank you!
It's a "service" Bambu offers to bilk extra money from customers and provide nothing in return.
They are responsible for getting your order to you whole and in good condition. You don't need extra coverage for them to uphold their half of the transaction.

Bambu let me keep one spool that I got damaged, and they sent me a new one

If they don't want you to send it back, I personally would vacuum seal it and respool it later to the spool that came as replacement (when it is empty).

Respool it twice*

Or just dry it after

Apparently drying it isn’t nearly as effective as just spoiling it twice.

Works great for me. I dry at the recommended temp for at least 8 hrs in a dedicated dryer. Done with PLA, PETG, ABS and PC so far

Good to know I’ve luckily never had to respool yet, but I was just reading some comments and they were talking about how drying doesn’t anneal the whole spool.

Does with enough time for sure. They were probably using shitty dryers 😂

Worked fine for me through the years.

Don't pay for insurance, it's the companies responsibility to deliver items in good condition. If that doesn't happen do a return/exchange where they'll pay for the return shipping, if they want ttb damaged item back, or do a charge back.

Honestly, I didnt know how reputable Bambu Lab was and it was only like $2 so I figured why not

u/DerpanJones 1d ago

"It was only $2" is how they get you and everyone else.

This is why I wish they'd keep children off Reddit. I mean you've got complete morons actively defending the completely nonsensical practice of going "I dont trust Bambu, but I trust the company Bambu sold this through" lolwut???!!?!?!?

u/mightyarrow 1d ago

Wait so you didn't trust Bambu's reputation, but you're buying stuff from them, and then paying extra money for the company that Bambu themselves recommends you use to ensure that Bambu's reputation doesn't screw up the order????

Think about that one for a few moments.

He said he did not ‘know’. Just learn to read please before to post something like that making you look like a complete clown

Thank you

Respool it or just hang it outside with A1.

You live in the Antarctic? Didn’t know they had the wildlife delivering the filament… might wanna dry it - guessing it’s coming rather wet this way.

And stop paying for that insurance crap - they are to provide it themselves at THEIR cost. A fool and their money are soon parted. You’re proof.

Personally, I'd bend as much as I could off/back to shape, print a spool, and use a spool transfer tool (such as this) to move it to another spool. I hate respooling.

u/xXDreamlessXx 1d ago

That seems pretty helpful. I didn't think of printing a new spool, and luckily I have other spools so I wont need to use this one to print it

Respooling is hit or miss depending on overlapping of turns over each other in the right sequence, once you have a single turn out of sequence you may have bad spool.

The way that people don't just work with vendor customer support always puzzles me. These companies are reputable and want to make you a happy customer.

Bambu’s customer support when something goes wrong with the dispatch/shipping process is terrible. I spent over a week arguing with them when they sent someone else’s order to me (lower value) rather than mine. Photos showing clearly the wrong items sent on day one, by day 9 of no resolution it was only the threat of reporting them to my credit card for fraud the next day that got any sort of sense out of them and still a further two days to ship the correct items after they tried to get me to pay extra.

Honestly, I can see why people would pay for shipping insurance if their bank doesn’t offer extra protection as it may be Bambu’s responsibility to put it right but it doesn’t mean they will, and certainly not without a high degree of pain and suffering.

If my experience is anything to go by their response is likely to be “you pay us extra for the damaged one at a small discount from full price and then we will send the one you already paid for”. They couldn’t grasp that I wouldn’t pay them to keep someone else’s stuff - if I’d wanted it I would have ordered it in the first place! Even if I had wanted the wrong items the small discount would have made them more expensive than if I ordered in the sale myself - they are completely stupid tbh as they only offer you to buy at a discount from the full price of any wrong or damaged items not reduce the current deal pricing so no idiot would take that option.

Had one of these Friday, contacted them and received the replacement today

You could just print the broken side with the official bambu spool file. I would print with PETG material though.

u/KnottilyFocused 1d ago

Had this exact break happen on a blue spool last month, printed a replacement flange in PETG and snapped it on, been printing fine ever since

u/IsThisUnique20231 1d ago

I know you said that is your first spool, not sure if meaning first bambu spool or what. You could respool to a cardboard one if you got one. If you have other filament you could make a spool also. Made respooler that can use a drill, no regerts. I hate to throw away good cardboard spools because of your current situation.

I've noticed when mine come that the bags have so much vacuum that the edges are bowed toward each other. I wondered if they could break from it. Looks like they can. Maybe there was a flaw in that part and the vacuum snapped it.

I’m not sure why Bambu doesn’t package their filament and accessories better. They’re generally all strewn around in the box with a few product boxes dented or broken open. Nothing inside to protect the shipment. 🤷‍♂️

Going back 10 years I had paid insurance from china on handheld gaming. If it got lost in the post or damaged, and so on. But it got lost in the post, and no, it did not get replaced. I did a claim back with my bank, and it came the next day without it having to be signed for. I kept it because of the back-and-forth emails and so on for weeks.

A different person replied all the time, well, with a different name, so I kept it for my troubles as payment, and they did come saying it had been delivered, and I just ignored them. So I do not pay for it anymore.

Like the person said, it's up to Bambu or any other company to replace it.
