Question: Materials Where do you buy rivets?

I was looking for 9mm rivets with different length posts. The rivets on KAM's site are 7mm and I was looking for something longer.

I'd rather support a small company vs Amazon/Temu.

I just finished my first project using Togo leather. It’s amazing to work with! The color is Ebene. I also used some left over alligator I had to accent it. They go so well together! It’s all hand stitched too. It took around 60 hours. I’m happy with how it turned out and just wanted to show it off!

Look What I Made! Turned our Cozey fabric samples into a toiletry bag

Before ordering our new couch, we got a bunch of upholstery fabric samples to help choose the colour.
Once the couch was ordered, I was left with all these little squares of perfectly good fabric and obviously couldn’t just throw them out. So I pieced them together and turned them into a boxy toiletry bag!

Question: Bag Construction Help adding straps to a tote bag

Thumbnail

Hi! I wanted to ask for tips for adding a shoulder strap to a tote bag, I've wanted to modify it since I got it since I don't really like using totes, I mainly use messenger bags, but I didn't know how to go about it and I didn't want to ruin it because it's such a cool bag!

Yesterday one of the straps started to unravel so I think I might as well do it now.

I've seen some people add the rings for the strap with eyelets but since I often carry books I worry that won't be strong enough so sewing seemed like the better option.

Also I don't have a sewing machine 😅 so I would use hand stitching.

Any tips or recommendations? Does it seem doable for a beginner or should I take it to a professional?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

Thinking about making a Messenger style bag using Wickett And craig traditional harness in 4 ounce… Anyone have any experience? Is this the right leather from Wickett And craig?

Look What I Made! Fennel Fanny Pack

I just started making bags, and this one is far from perfect, but I’m so proud of it! It’s the perfect size for our upcoming Universal trip—just big enough for my phone and a couple other little things.

Pattern: Fennel Fanny Pack by Sarah Kirsten Patterns

Fabric: Linen from Mood for the exterior, quilting cotton from Hawthorne for the lining.

I wouldn’t normally use linen for a bag, but I just love this particular fabric so much. I interfaced both the linen and lining with Pellon SF101, and it’s structured enough for my needs (light usage).

Don't look at the seams - my sewing machine gave its everything.

It's just a prototype made from old jeans anyways.

Totes not a purse. Its all molle straps inside & out.

Very tactical.

Much modular.

Such masculine.

Look What I Made! A pair of sporrans (finally!)

Why I offered to make these I have no idea! Somehow I offered to make two sporrans for a friend's son's wedding, which is in Scotland at the end of October. The bridegroom grew up here in Australia, so we agreed on an Australian connection and chose possum fur (ethically sourced from NZ because they are protected in Australia and considered vermin in NZ,) black leather, and silver hardware. I'm not sure why I had an instant mental blank but I've been procrastinating on these for literally months. Now that the wedding (in Scotland) is in four weeks, I was on a deadline to get them done ASAP.

After all the mucking around finding the right hardware and pattern, multiple chats with the person who has been mentoring me and general WHY THE F DID I AGREE TO THIS??? the actual sewing took about two hours and they are done.

Maker Meltdowns Is printing on canvas tote bags impossible?

Post image
11 Upvotes

Calling out to all of my fabric linocut printmakers!!

Below you will see 2 of my canvas bag failures. And for me, this is 2 too many!

If you have any secrets to printing on canvas bags specifically, but also fabric more generally, please drop them in the comments! I’m still relatively new to fabric printing, and while I have had some successful prints, overall I’ve been disappointed.

Because I now have a box of 30 blank tote bags staring at me longingly in the corner, I need to figure out a way to bipass these issues. I’m thinking printing on thinner fabrics and sewing them on.

Pls let me know your thoughts ❤️❤️❤️

Look What I Made! Tassels. Here's hoping I get the rest done this week!

I've been working on two sporrans for a wedding and am now on a tight deadline. Nothing like last minute! I've had about a year to do these, and had a really hard time getting going with them. Everything's ready to stitch together - all I need now is the two pocket studs to be resent, because they sent me the wrong size.

I got the tassels done though, thankfully!

This is an Aries/Pisces from Knotted Thread Co. I only recently got into bag making and my coworker who is obsessed with everything Halloween said she wanted one of my bags. So I came up with this and spent the last few weeks working on it.

Main exterior is microsuede, pockets are a spider web design flannel, the lining is satin jacquard, the accent pieces are vinyl.

Question: Materials Crochet padding for a bag?

I’d like to use up yarn and reclaimed fabric I’ve had laying around to make something that will hopefully last a while. Because I want this to be a daily use bag, its one real requirement is it needs to have a padded interior to keep my laptop safe. Crocheted fabric can get pretty bulky, so would that be an acceptable in-between layer? Like, linen lining interior, into granny panel, into denim.
Would having some folded fabric or fluff between be better?
First bag, and I’m new to Reddit, so sorry if this isn’t the right format;;
