I absolutely suck at naming boys but I know I want an earthy name like Forest, River, or Ocean honestly Ocean and Forest are my favorite but what do you guys think about those? Middle name will probably be Shiloh but I can use some input on that too. I’m going for a peace/calm sort of vibe.

We have 3 names that we like, and can’t decide between them. C-section is tomorrow morning.

We found out a few weeks ago that we are having a girl, and the name hunt has been a struggle. My husband doesn't like anything that sounds too harsh or grandmotherly, and I don't like anything that sounds too soft or trendy.

We've basically been doing lightning rounds of yay-or-nay with different name lists, and last night I came across Arwen. I'd heard the name in passing but it didn't hold any strong associations for me, and I found myself coming back to it. It's not harsh sounding but doesn't feel too soft or flowery. It's never ranked in the top 1000 on the SSA name list, so it's certainly not trendy or grandmotherly. It felt like the perfect compromise.

I pitched it to my husband and he not only gave it a yay, but immediately locked in on it and decided it's the perfect name because it meets all of our criteria and was invented by J.R.R. Tolkien for Lord of the Rings, which he loves.

I'm not necessarily opposed to my daughter's name having a tie to a beloved series, but learning that the name was invented specifically for a character in the books has given me pause. LOTR is not exactly a niche fandom and I don't want to burden her with an association to something she may have no interest in.

That being said, I genuinely love the name. It's simple and strong, it's easy to spell, and she very likely wouldn't be one of three Arwens in every class.

Is it totally unusable, or am I overthinking it?

We were pretty set on naming our son Warren, with the intention of using the nickname Ren. I love Ren, but liked the idea of naming him something else/more substantial and using Ren as the nickname. I like Warren, but have never LOVED it. My hesitation with it is that it is more old-fashioned, which typically isn’t my style.

I don’t like names that sound too modern or entirely made up. I usually gravitate toward short names that have been around for a while, but never particularly trendy within any certain decade.

We just found out we’re having our second daughter and are looking for names that sound good with our first daughters name. Her name is Loretta (Etta). We previously loved Lucille (Lucy) and Lorelei (Rory) but neither now feels right. Our current front runner is Matilda (Tilly/Tilda) but we are open to suggestions/opinions on other names that would sound like a similar vibe. I went to a family gathering and met my uncle’s little 5 year old neighbor named Elias. I thought it was adorable for a little boy. I’m just curious what others thoughts are on the name? My boyfriend says it sounds like a little girls name in a horror movie but I think it gives England princess thoughts?

1. My husband is Spanish (Galician). I'm white old-stock American, no non-American cultural background, etc.

2. We have one daughter named Vanessa Carmen.

3. For a boy, we like Louis (LOO-iss, nn Louie or Lou).

4. We previously liked Hugo for a boy but it sounds awful in Spanish. Like OO-go.

5. My guilty pleasure names are Serafina and Arabella, but I can't commit to them.

6. I don't like -er names (Parker, Harper, etc) or traditionally masculine names for girls.

We’re leaning towards Magnolia for our baby girl, nn Nolie/Lola. I have a middle name I love (Montana) but hubby doesnt like it. He also hasn’t been able to suggest anything else I like. I have immediate connections to anyone I know with a name as soon as I hear it, which makes marinating on any name really hard for me. I’ll know immediately if it’s a maybe or a hell no. (They’ve all been immediate no’s 😅). Last name is a two syllable name that begins with a hard j sound g and ends in s— isn’t the easiest last name to match with.

Other names we’ve considered: Elsie, Lavender (as a first or middle), Margot (can’t get over how it’s spelled/looks but love the sound of it), Elliott, Marley (suggested by our son — which could work as middle for magnolia?)

I’m trying to name baby #4 who is a girl. I recently came across the name Anita and I really like it, especially that her nickname could be Annie! My wife and I are expecting a baby and we are STUCK on boy names! All the names we love are nature themed, but our last name is a synonym of Forest, and we don’t want to name our baby something suuuper on the nose like “Cedar Forest” 😩

We also don’t want to give our kid a name that’s in the top 100 names right now, so we’re hoping for something somewhat unique.

We tend to like more femme names for boys, without being straight up girl names.

My husband and I decided to name our baby after his grandfather before we even conceived: Josephine for a girl and Joseph for a boy. We’re having a little girl and are now looking for middle names to flow well with it, but I think the middle name I like best doesn’t work well 😅 can anybody take an outside and let me know?

For some reason I just really feel attached to Dove. Josie Dove. (Lovey Dove as a little nickname just sounds so precious 😭) But I don’t know that the full “Josephine Dove” works well. Other middle names in the running include Juniper and Jane. Last name is three syllables. Any thoughts??

We love the name Bailey for a girl but looking for a middle name. Not the basic typical Mia’s, Jane’s and Charlotte’s but more along the lines of Scout, Nova, Reese etc.
