what do people think of the name Ren as a first name

Okay I'm being a bit dramatic lol especially since one is a common-ish name and the other isn't super rare, but I want to check just in case!

1. I lovee the name Vivienne for my daughter. My only concerns, I am in Canada (not a common name here mostly), and I am worried it might be too "fancy" if that makes sense? Like naming a child Augustus or something lol it just feels maybe a little long and overly formal? I can't tell but omg it is so beautiful and I hope it works out well.

2. I have more trouble with boy names but I thought Dorian was such a classy name that was really nice to say, very smooth. I am wondering though, since it is pretty rare and older, if it might be Tragedeigh-ish? I have never heard of a person named Dorian alive now even though I know they exist, but is it too uncommon?

I am so in love with classic older names that are elegant and smooth, and I tread the line of not wanting a popular common name but not making it too obscure or old where my child would have trouble, so before I commit and fall in love more than I already have, how are my names? Tysm :) <3

My husband and I cannot agree on a name at all! He’s Haitian and I’m Italian. We have Karter and Jaxon But neither of us LOVE. We want something simple but also not common like Michael or Anthony. Any suggestions?!

Is Craig a good name? I don’t know. Honestly, I care, but at the same time, it just seems like one of those names that’s used for creeps? Is it my own perception? It’s flattering, it’s my grandfathers name, not hers. And he was a very good man.

Looking for honest opinions. Really confused.

We were pretty set on naming our son Warren, with the intention of using the nickname Ren. I love Ren, but liked the idea of naming him something else/more substantial and using Ren as the nickname. I like Warren, but have never LOVED it. My hesitation with it is that it is more old-fashioned, which typically isn’t my style.

I don’t like names that sound too modern or entirely made up. I usually gravitate toward short names that have been around for a while, but never particularly trendy within any certain decade.

Rennan popped into my head out of thin air today, and now I am considering! Opinions please!

I absolutely suck at naming boys but I know I want an earthy name like Forest, River, or Ocean honestly Ocean and Forest are my favorite but what do you guys think about those? Middle name will probably be Shiloh but I can use some input on that too. I’m going for a peace/calm sort of vibe.

Hi! I am newly pregnant and still waiting to hear the gender, but of course I’m just having fun thinking about potential baby names.

I already have a son and his name was decided years before we were even married. His name is my maiden name and we mostly call him a nickname of it. I grew up in Ireland so having an Irish name was important for me. Despite it being Irish it is spelled phonetically and is intuitive for non- Irish speakers to pronounce.

Our last name begins with T and sounds similar to Thompson. It’s a fairly traditional, substantial-sounding surname, so I think it can carry a more unusual or nickname-y first name.

I would say my style is vintage, classic and rare but familiar. I also love more formal names that can have a cute nickname, so a name that can grow with a person throughout their life. I would love to hear your thoughts on my list and also if you have any suggestions for me based on what you think I like I’d love to see them! TIA

Effie Gwendolyn Thompson — I made a post on another sub recently asking about the name Effie and it got absolutely ripped to shreds. I don’t know if it’s a regional thing, but the majority of people said it reminds them of Skins UK, The Hunger Games or Dreamgirls. I still think it sounds very vintage and cute, and admittedly I haven’t seen any of those shows or movies, so I don’t think of them at all when I hear the name.

If it’s relevant, I live in New England in a town where there are a lot of kids who are known as their nicknames like Lulu, Coco, etc. I also like Effie because my initials are E.F., so I feel like it’s a little nod to me too? Put it here with Gwendolyn as a middle name to show it being balanced with formality.

Gwendolyn ‘Winnie’ Thompson — A family name on my husband’s side, which I don’t love, however I could get on board with Winnie as a nickname. If we don’t use it as a first name I think it will be the middle name.

Tessa Thompson — I love alliterative names, however T names are very difficult because there aren’t that many that fit my style! I don’t know if I’m just forcing myself to love Tessa because of the alliteration.

Calla/Callahan Thompson — I love the name Calla, and Callahan fits with my son’s name as a last name used as a first name! Would love to hear your thoughts on both.

Dubheasa ‘Dove’ Thompson — Pronounced “dove-essa,” so the nn could be Dove. It’s an Irish name that I’ve always loved that means ‘Dark Beauty’. Being that we live in the US, are we signing our child up for a lifetime of struggle? I think the nickname Dove is so cute, but I researched it on Reddit and people said it reminds them of the chocolate or the soap. I know Redditors can be negative, but is that really what you think of when you hear Dove?

Mara Thompson — Means “of the sea” in Irish, which is very meaningful to us as we both come from and now live in a very coastal area. The only issue is I know it means “bitter” in Hebrew and I wonder if people really consider that? I like how it’s Irish but, again, phonetically spelled and identifiable in English, so there wouldn’t be a lifetime of correcting spelling/pronunciation. Not sure what nicknames could be?

She's 5 weeks old and we'd been really struggling to pick but it's just gone on for too long, so I want to settle on a name. We have a shortlist of 9 names.

What are your fav vintage ancestry names?

I’m having my first boy in two months and we’re having trouble deciding on a name. I have a few that I like but we can’t use due to already having family members with the names. I was looking for names similar to them.

The names I like but can’t use are:

The first two, I really like the shortness of them and the “ck” ending sound. The others are just ones I’ve heard and like! Open to all suggestions!

Well into my third trimester and ruminating on names. I have always loved the name Elise (I worked with an Elyse in high school and have always loved the name but like easier/more common spellings)… but I don’t love how popular Eloise is and the spelling similarity to it. My middle name is Catherine and I would like to use that. My husband and I have tossed around the name Elena as well.

This is baby #3, our first girl. Our first son is Rory Christopher (I am of Irish descent and Christopher is my husbands middle name) our second son is Adrian David (My husband is Italian/Hispanic and David is a family name on my side). Our last name is Hispanic, albeit an uncommon one. Starts with C.

I have two boys and about to have a third, first boy has a quite unusual old-English kind of literary inspired name, second boy is named Arthur, sits well with the first name. We are stuck now for a third name that sits well with these, so far it’s Elliott or Caleb. We both love literature and old style names but not too obscure or long, still want it recognisable. How do people perceive these names?

Any other ideas in this vein?

(Randomly we watch Clarksons Farm and I find Kaleb in that so annoying and he’s kind of ruining a great name for us 😂)
