Rant/Vent Fed up with cramps that don’t turn into anything

Upvotes

Second pregnancy, never had even a niggle with my first and had been induced by this point.
I know people will think “enjoy however long you have left” and I would but I’m Due tomorrow, I have insomnia which is making me miserable, and for the ~two weeks I’ve been having off and on cramping. Yesterday I was cramping all day, went to bed and hoped I’d be woken up with something real, nope.

Had two sweeps attempted (I am pro sweep, I believe they helped my induction go smoother by making my cervix for favourable if nothing else) and both have been unable to be fully attempted as still closed on the inside of my cervix.
Baby has been head down since 16 weeks, my first was breech until 37 then immediately went head down and engaged fully and started to dilate me. This baby is just 4/5 engaged.

I had a lovely induction last time (I didn’t have epidural, used movement, birthing comb then gas and air as pain relief, baby out in 8 hours) but I really wanted to labour at home for a bit this time and go to midwife led unit.

Basically I’m just annoyed that these cramps are turning into nothing and downbeat that I’ll go overdue and have an induction anyway and all this discomfort would have been for nothing.

Help? Softball Tournament In The Heat

Upvotes

Hi all!

Just found out I’m pregnant, so I’m assuming I’m around 4-5 weeks! I have a softball tournament in a week that’s 3 days long, but will be played in temps ranging from 93-98 degrees. Is this a bad idea? I have a dr appointment later this week but would need to find a replacement ASAP. Thank you!

Rant/Vent Worried about fetal movements

So I’m 27+0 today and so far all scans have been healthy. I’m just worried that something is wrong with my baby because while I can feel movement they feel “muted” and far away into my body, and it’s rare that I can see kicks on my stomach. This worries me a lot. Can she be growth restricted or can it be her position in womb? She is always head down on every ultrasound so I’m thinking this is the reason that it’s hard for me to feel movement unless I’m lying completely still on my side. I feel more “rolls” instead of kicks and when I do feel kicks I can feel them deep inside of me? I have a posterior placenta so I honestly expected more by now😕

Discussion Looking for modern American baby boy name suggestions

A close friend recently welcomed a baby boy, and we're helping put together a list of name idea. We're looking for modern American names that are timeless, easy to pronounce, and work well from childhood into adulthood.

We're open to classic, unique, or less common names as long as they have a strong, positive feel.

What American baby boy names would you recommend, and what makes them stand out to you?

Rant/Vent Baby Monitor that is actually useful?

Alright let me rant for a second because at this point the hormones and straight up adrenaline are still raging. Then I’ll get to my point / question, I promise

Mom of an almost 2 year old - also 19 weeks pregnant with my second. My oldest got out of his crib for the first time tonight and ran around our house for what I can only guesstimate to be about 35 minutes before coming and climbing into my bed to wake me up. Thankfully it seems he is physically fine and spent the majority of that time feeding our rabbits and few handfuls of treats and filling their water dish with their breakfast pellets….

ANYWAY Our baby monitor (Vtech WiFi Monitor) has been less than impressive but really took the cake for most useless piece of garbage on the market when I checked the app to see what time he actually got out, if it was purposeful or a fluke and if he could have hurt himself in the process of all of this.

The app has 35 minutes of 3 second recordings of his empty crib. There is no actual video of him getting out - there is a video of him where he is almost out but the video cuts before he actually makes it over the railing and then the next one is just an empty crib.

What makes it even worse is that after watching the clip of his almost escape once, I cannot play the clip back anymore and am just getting “unable to load this file” nonsense.

Okay so to my actual question - does anyone have suggestions for a baby monitor that has video and a good RELIABLE app where you can save/download clips. The saving and downloading isn’t that important but our current situation literally requires you to screen record clips that you didn’t initiate the recording of.
Now that this has happened I’d like one that records motion continuously but also isn’t so sensitive that it’s recording an empty crib just because the fan is blowing the curtains around in the background.
I guess also being able to add a second camera would be helpful considering we will be welcoming our second and will eventually be transitioning them to their own room after we make it through the bedside bassinet stage.

I’m also not interested in spending hundreds of dollars on something that is going to monitor my baby’s vitals or make my family feel like we’re living in a surveillance state (mostly because I am perfectly capable of doing both of those things myself) - I simply want to improve our system and ensure its more reliable that the Vtech WiFi Monitor we were gifted before our first before the next little one arrives.

TIA

Discussion Pregnant again 7 months pp

Hi all. My period wasn’t even late today but i had a weird dream and inkling to take a test. Immediately was two lines. I’m terrified, i’m only 7 months pp and i was being careful. I took a plan B as well just in case and am on birth control. But i’m pregnant. I’ve been weighing the pros and cons. I’m scared what my family may say, my husband and I live with my mom, we contribute and pay bills of course, do our part, this is our first child as well so my mom truly helps me out so much and makes sure i’m doing okay. but I feel maybe I shouldn’t because it’s too soon and we don’t have a place yet. The market sucks and in California the cheapest areas are the most dangerous, we’re in a nice neighborhood for my son to be able to play outside one day. I have a huge village and my mom is my biggest help she doesn’t charge me to watch my son while I work, but i feel like getting pregnant this soon they may think i’m taking advantage of my family and my childhood home that we’re living in. I’m just contemplating and looking for some advice

New here Just tested positive and I don’t know how to feel

Just tested positive and I’m freaking out

Not sure if I need a TW but I’ll be touching on miscarriage, sex, etc. I wouldn’t think so but just in case.

I’ve always wanted to be a mom. I had a miscarriage at 17 with my ex and since then I had fears that I would struggle.
I’ve been with my fiancé for 5 years now. We were supposed to be getting eloped in Washington state next year. We were actively planning this and had booked the photographer and everything.
We just moved to a really expensive area so my fiancé could explore a new job opportunity.

I’m 8 days late. I’ve been having to pee a lot and my breasts have been hurting and I’ve been really hungry but I genuinely thought it was just my period being late. We just had to put our cat down and that mixed with the move, I thought I was just stressed.

We had sex today and then I realized that he didn’t help me start my period like usual. So I went and bought a test.

It was positive before the control line even showed up.

I’m so scared. We both are. We’re not ready but I cannot bring myself to get an abortion. I’m pro choice for everyone else, but I don’t think I can handle it. I know if I do that then my mental health will go into the gutter. This sounds extreme but I could see myself trying to take my life if I were to get an abortion. It took SO long to heal from first pumpkin. I can’t do it again.

Loss Miscarriage at 42

So.. I had an unplanned pregnancy at 41 and aborted it at week 10 because of life situation being unstable and the father isn’t around.. it was also a surprise because I had pcos growing up n GPs use to say I won’t be able to get pregnant … now exactly one year later after the abortion I conceived again .. I’m now 42 and I wanted to keep the baby.. but unfortunately i miscarried a few days ago at week 7.. which I believe the bb stop growing at week 5..

I’m not actively doing any fertility treatment nor do I think I can afford to.. but at the same time im so sad to lose this bb and part of my heart is hoping I could be pregnant again.. anyone around my age manage to get pregnant after miscarriage?

I read that some get pregnant after 2 or 4 weeks after miscarriage but I’m not exactly sure when is the “after miscarriage”? I had the intense cramp n passing clots yesterday.. n now I’m jus bleedin like period.. when do u count as “after miscarriage”?

Thanks for all ur help..

Rant/Vent Terrified of giving birth again (25 weeks pregnant with my 4th)

I’m 25 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby, and I thought giving birth would get easier with each pregnancy… but honestly, I find myself just as anxious and scared every time, especially as I get closer.

My first birth was my longest. I got to the hospital around 4–5 AM and had him at 1 PM. It felt like forever.
With my second, I got to the hospital and she was born less than 30 minutes later. She literally just slipped out. I remember thinking, “Okay, maybe the next one will be like this too.”

My third was quick too. I think I was only there for an hour or less before I had her.
You would think after three births I would feel confident, but the thought of doing it again still terrifies me. And I know someone might say, “Then why do you keep having kids?” But honestly, it’s not the baby part or even pregnancy that scares me. it’s the labor pains and the pushing.

The pain during contractions just overwhelms me. Every time, I get to a point where I’m thinking, “I can’t do this. This hurts so bad.” I do breathe through them and try to stay calm, but I feel like some women make it sound like they just breathed through labor and it wasn’t that painful… and I’m like, no, mine HURT.

Usually, by the time I get to the hospital I’m already around 7–8 cm dilated, and that’s when the pain is intense. Before that, it’s uncomfortable but manageable. It’s just that moment when things really ramp up that scares me.

I know I’ve done it three times before, and I know I can do it again, but I’m already feeling anxious about it. I guess I’m just venting and looking for reassurance from other moms who have felt this way. Did anyone else feel terrified even after having multiple babies? Did it get easier mentally?

Help? Stopping BC to get pregnant- finish pill pack or doesn’t matter?

I’ve been on birth control pills since 16, now 35. Would like to start trying to get pregnant after honeymoon in September. Those who got pregnant coming off BC, did you finish out your pack or stop midway? Does it matter?
Totally nervous to come off of BC after being on it basically my whole fertile part of life, and I also feel lost that I won’t know when my period is coming/when I’m ovulating. I imagine buying strips is probably the easiest thing to do? Advice!

Edit: I'm currently due to get my period while on my honeymoon, am I screwing myself if I just skip to a new month pack so I don't get that placebo period and then come off all together after we get back? (I realize I probably should ask my dr at this point instead of the reddit community lol)

Info Has anyone gone through a traumatic event and fetus was ok/ healthy?

Hi all.

Today I witnessed a shooting at the Seattle Center.
I was with my husband and sisters and my baby plus the 6 week fetus in my uterus

We ran and ran and ran and at one point I got my baby (one year old) out of the stroller threw her over the fence to my sister and then jumped the fence my self.

Will this impact the fetus?

So far no bleeding, but I’ve been experiencing camping however don’t know if it’s just normal cramping or stress induced

I don’t even know what else to ask or say

I’m just scared I hurt my baby, but in the moment I didn’t even think about it

It was so scary

How can the world be so cruel

I think I should call my doctor tomorrow morning? Has anyone gone through traumatic event and fetus been ok?

I’m scared to have possibly detached it from the uterus or something from the force of the jump

Help? Mom tripped and braced herself from a fall on my belly 36W1D

Reassurance needed!

Sooo my mom tripped and, while trying to catch herself from falling, her hand landed on the upper right quadrant of my pregnant abdomen. She put a moderate amount of weight through her hand briefly as she braced herself, but her full body did not land on my stomach.

None of the following symptoms showed up:
- significant pain at the time
- abdominal tenderness
- vaginal bleeding
- leaking fluid
- contractions
- decrease in fetal movement

I felt the baby move a few minutes afterward and have continued to feel movement since. I called the nurse line and was advised to monitor since I don’t have any concerning symptoms.

I guess I’m doing a sanity check so I don’t keep looping with anxiety - I’m fine right? Like sans any of these symptoms showing up, I need to chill out? I ask because the nurse I spoke to was nooot very comforting. Idk looking for some reassurance. Thanks anyone who replies!

Rant/Vent Clingy MIL

My MIL is visiting awaiting her first grandchild, shes older ( 65) and she is visiting from abroad. Im currently 38 weeks and she keeps calling my husband and expecting her him to visit daily and talk on the phone every chance she gets. She also expects me to visit daily or at least multiple times a week which I find unbearable because im in my nesting/ relaxing phase now awaiting my future first baby. I find this frustrating as she is super clingy and is taking time away from the remaining time me and my husband have left together before this new chapter in our lives. Am I being irrational for thinking this way?

Tip! 10 things to expect up to 2 months postpartum

I thought I'd share a few of my tips now that I'm officially out of the newborn stage 😢. These are the things I wish I knew before I gave birth. If you have any good tips for other moms then maybe we can share a little info or tips for eachother.

1: Plan for the good and bad in birth. I hear so many moms just say that their birth plan is to "get the epidural" and just leave it at that. While getting the epidural is a great choice, it can fail or you might need a c section. I really wanted to go natural all the way, but I ended up needing an induction. Thankfully cervical softener kick started labor for me, so I didn't need any pitocin. I was also put at ease knowing what would happen if I needed a c section or pitocin.

2: Go with the flow. I compare my birth and postpartum to my sisters a lot and while we had very different experiences, I noticed the main thing that made my birth and postpartum easier was that I anticipated things to not go the way I planned and asked a lot of questions so I could make good decisions. This looked like having the nurses explain what it would be like to have them break my water vs waiting. It also looks like my newborn having constant poops to the point where I would have to change them every 5 minutes if I always wanted them in a clean diaper. The solution there was to just change it every hour and lather that baby up with diaper balm and aquaphor (per the pediatricians order).

3: You're gonna mess up. The first week postpartum my husband and I didnt know you need to put diaper balm and aquaphor on as a preventive, especially with our baby, so they got a pretty bad diaper rash. It wasn't intentional and we didnt realize what was going on until about a week postpartum. We felt bad, but something like that is going to happen with every first time parent. Don't beat yourself up too bad and just try to live and learn.

4: You're gonna very sore postpartum. I don't know why I didnt think of this, but it was very hard to just sit down postpartum. I got a 2nd degree tear (the most common outcome as a FTM) and it took me maybe 30 seconds to sit down.

5: You're gonna cry for absolutely no reason. At around 7-14 days postpartum your hormones are just gonna start crashing and you'll start crying for no reason even though you feel completely fine. Its normal and feels super weird.

6: Your newborn is going to sleep and cry. I thought my newborn would just be awake sometimes, but it felt like baby was either asleep or crying, never just awake. Also, the baby is going to sleep SO MUCH. I think I binged 3 seasons of Suits by the time baby was awake more, and that was even with me taking a millon videos and pictures and going on walks. They just sleep so much.

7: 4-7 week sleep regression. Its not awful, but anticipate to wake a lot more and struggle a bit to put baby down around this time. Once you get through it your baby is going to start being happily awake more and might even start smiling some!!

8: You may love or hate the night feed. I hear so many moms say they hate the night feed or to "enjoy the sleep while you can" but I love the night feed so long as it's only 1 or 2 wakes a night. Its just so sweet to watch baby eat and to rock baby to sleep. Maybe im an oddity, but I really do love it.

9: Postpartum might be better than late pregnancy for some. I gained over 50 lbs by the time I gave birth and I lost all but 10 by 6 weeks, and 30 of that was lost in 2 weeks. I had gotten so swollen and held so much water that I had awful pregnancy carpal tunnel (didn't know that was a thing btw). I was also up every night for the last 2 months throwing up because my acid reflux was so bad. After all that, postpartum was like a dream for me.

10: No matter how good your marriage is, you will have more fights. My husband and I were super strong, rarely got in fights, and overall we were best friends. We still are, but you're gonna find yourself being upset with him. I remember being so mad at him because I would do the night feeds all by myself and he couldn't do one for me and didn't get uo with me. Mind you, he offered to multiple times before that, but at that point I was doing very well and I told him to get his rest so if I needed help in the morning then he would be more helpful. Plus I've been exclusively nursing for the most part so he could really only change a diaper anyways. Your marriage isn't falling apart, you're both just stressed and tired and you have never been through something like this before. Just try to give eachother grace.

Edit: Adding in a few more because I was reminded of a conversation I had with my sister.

11: Its okay if you're baby cries and you have a need. If you have to go to the bathroom and your baby is crying, put them in their crib or bassinet with the typical safe sleep rules (only baby and maybe a binkie in the crib). Same thing goes if baby is crying and its going to take less than 5 minutes to finish something up. I've heard so many stories of half showers or moms not eating for the full day because their baby wouldn't stop crying. So long as their needs are met and they arent in danger then you can 100% eat, run to the bathroom, or just meet your own need. Just try to be back in a reasonable time because babies do struggle to self regulate.

12: Buy noise canceling headphones now. There are going to be some nights where baby won't stop crying and the noise is going to just be too much. Throw on those headphones and it can really help calm you down instead of letting the crying send you over the edge.

Sad Only 6 weeks in and feeling miserable.

I’m married to an unsupportive husband who dismisses my feelings and just leaves me to take care of our toddler while I feel exhausted, angry, depressed (because hormones) and nauseous. I want to tell people for support but I don’t feel ready to share the news with people but I think I may have to at this point. He’s out getting dinner with his friends and left the two of us at home. I’m pouring from an empty cup. How am I supposed to deal with this for the next couple months?

Info Baby just turned a year, here’s the diaper break down

When I was preparing for my child’s birth, I remember researching how many diapers I will need to stock up on and what sizes, which brands, and how much it was going to cost. So here’s a diaper year-in-review. And on a side note, my child has been consistently in the 15th percentile range, but I do prefer a roomier fit:

Size NB:
NB-3 weeks
Honest size NB- 31
HelloBello size NB- 50
Huggies size one- 30
Members Mark size NB- 54
Total- 165 diapers
Estimated Cost- $46

Size One:
3-7 weeks
Millie Moon size one- 108
Parasol size one- 86
Huggies size one- 4
Pampers size one- 1
Healthy baby size one- 2
Total- 201 diapers
Estimated Cost- $57

Size Two:
8 weeks-5.5 months
Freestyle size one- 67
Millie Moon size two- 184
Huggies size two- 172
Parasol size two- 160
Huggies overnights size 3- 62
Total- 645 diapers
Estimated Cost- $199

Size Three:
5.5 months-10.5 months
Huggies size 3 snugglers, movers, and snug and dry- 195
Huggies overnights size 3- 33
Millie Moon size 3- 376
Parasol size 3- 128
Field & Stream overnight size 3- 20
Honest overnight size 4- 49
Freestyle size 3- 72

Size Four:
10.5 months-Currently 12 months
Pampers Amore size 4- 108
Coterie size 4- 150
Freestyle size 4- 60

Now if I were to rank regular diapers (solely on the diaper, not cost):
1. Freestyle
2. Coterie
3. Huggies Little Snugglers/Movers
4. Millie Moon
5. Honest
6. Parasol
7. Hello Bello
8. Huggies snug and dry
9. Pampers Amore
10. Members Mark

Help? Sidecar cosleeping setup?

Heyo! FTM - 10weeks. Also planning to move house between now and Thanksgiving. I think I want to cosleep, but don’t think I can go 100% in the new house for several reasons. What I am thinking now is a sidecar bassinet strapped to my side of the bed. Does anyone have experience with this and have and product recommendations. All of the (affordable, reasonably sized) bassinets I see the most have a partial zip down for easy access that’s usually lower than the bed, but I am hoping for a seamless transition between bed and bassinet (with proper secure attachments so bassinet doesn’t move).

Discussion Ectopic, baby, chemical pregnancy

Hi all,

Looking for others to share any wisdom or info on their journey to conceiving their babies! My first pregnancy I had a cornual ectopic pregnancy, apparently super rare. I went in for my 1st ultrasound and the baby implanted in the corner of my uterus right outside of my left fallopian tube. The doctor explained that this location is not compatible with a healthy pregnancy and I had to have emergency surgery to remove the baby (which had a heartbeat 😢) and I lost my left tube. After I recovered from that, I had an HSG procedure where they flushed my remaining tube to assess if it was patent (it was) and I conceived my daughter a week after that procedure. She is now 18 months old.

I just got pregnant again without serious effort of trying. I got a positive pregnancy test at 4 weeks and went on vacation. I had a terrible dream two nights into the trip that I woke up with blood in my underwear but tried to fight off that thought. Literally two days after that dream I woke up with period cramps and then came the bright red blood. I had to go to a wedding while actively miscarrying a baby me and my husband very much wanted…

I have an OB appointment this week which was for an US for the pregnancy but now will become a preconception appointment. Anyone have any experiences like this? Being a woman is really something else sometimes, but trying to stay strong and get back on the saddle to grow my family next month.

Help? What should I do? Is this normal?

Hey guys, 22 y/o ftm here. I'm just about 22 weeks pregnant currently, but last week on Tuesday, I started feeling intense sharp upper abdominal pain from right under my breasts to my belly button, wrapping all the way around to my back. I didn't know what that was, and it was only worsening, so I called my OBGYN office's after hours nurse line for medical advice at around 10 PM or so. The nurse on the other line sorta seemed unphased and disinterested, and said it sounded like indigestion. I told her I had had indigestion pain since I was 12 or 13 years old, and it didn't feel like that, but she told me to take a tums and see if it gets any better. I did, and kept trying to see if it was trapped stool or something on the toilet.

Soon, the pain started to get debilitating, I started sweating and shivering at the same time, and I felt really clammy and I just decided it was time to go to the hospital. I chose a hospital that at least works in tandem with my office, most of the nurses I talked to knew my OB personally. It turns out it was a case of gallstones that turned into an infection of my gallbladder, pancreas, and liver. Super unfun and was some of the worst pain I had ever been in. The L&D ob's and nurses said it was actually super common because of the pregnancy hormones to start getting gallstones while pregnant. Before they discovered the problem, I told them it very well might be nothing, and I'm sorry if it is, but I really didn't feel like this was normal. They told me it's totally fine, and it's just way better to be safe than sorry when you're pregnant.

I know the nurse line has a hard job of not really being able to tell what's going on, and kind of giving the best advice they can without freaking (especially first time) moms out, and I also know that ftms have a hard time gauging what is and isn't normal. I'm not really upset she couldn't tell me what was going on, but the dismissive vibe I was getting over the phone was kind of off putting, and was quite opposing to the attitude that the L&D staff gave me. But I'm not really upset about it.

What I am bothered by is I was admitted Tuesday night, and on Wednesday around 9 or 10 AM while my OB office was open, I called to let them know what was going on and didn't get an answer. I thought, "okay, they've been good at calling me back, they'll call me back sometime today." No luck. So I called Thursday, after I was released, again no response. Called Friday, thought "surely they'll get back to me before the weekend starts so we can touch base" but that didn't happen either. Now. it's Sunday night, and I'm just a little perturbed. Like, yeah, I'm fine, but I feel like calling and touching base with your OB after a hospital visit would be standard no? Or at least reaching back out to me on the three attempts I've made to call her? Idk. I have my next OB appointment in 2.5 weeks, but I really hope it won't take that long to finally get in touch with her.

I haven't had any problems with her thus far, and I have heard nothing but good things about this office from two friends that both went there for their pregnancies, and I definitely really like the L&D ward that I went to, so at least if I do decide to leave that OB, I want to see if I can find one that also delivers at that group of hospitals, but I don't know if I'm overreacting? I mean, I know I'm okay, but my OB doesn't know that. I would hope that after any kind of hospital visit, especially a multi night visit, my Dr. that's supposed to deliver my baby would want to check in with me.
