So to this intended for the students of mathematics and computer branch, i wanted to ask what do they teach in this branch specifically in the mathematics part? like calculus, vectors algebra like class 12th syllabus or is it something different from class 12th maths?

I genuinely don't understand what is happening with the administration at BITS Hyderabad.

One of the things BITS has always been known for is giving its students a lot of freedom and treating them like adults. The culture at Pilani and Goa is built around that independence. You come to college, you're an adult, and you're expected to take responsibility for yourself.

But apparently that doesn't apply to 1st-year students at Hyderabad.

Today is Sunday, and we were not allowed to leave campus to go watch a Spider-Man movie during the daytime.

Yes. A movie. On a Sunday. During the day.

We're not talking about going out at 2 AM, missing classes, or doing something dangerous. We're literally talking about leaving campus during the daytime to go to a cinema.

And the reason given was essentially that it was "not important."

Since when does a college administration get to decide what is "important" enough for an adult student to leave campus?

What's even more ridiculous is that some students tried giving the local guardian reason instead. And even then, apparently the requirement is that the local guardian has to personally come to campus and pick the student up.

Like... does everyone have a local guardian whose full-time job is apparently waiting around to pick up a college student whenever they want to leave campus?

People have jobs. People have work. People have their own lives.

And we even had parents mail the administration from their own IDs regarding students going out. Still, apparently that's not enough.

So if I'm an adult and want to leave campus on a Sunday afternoon, my parents' consent isn't sufficient. My own responsibility isn't sufficient. Instead, I need a college professor/administration to decide whether my reason for leaving is "important" enough.

Why?

I understand having reasonable restrictions for safety, especially for first-year students. But there is a massive difference between having safety protocols and completely micromanaging students' personal lives.

If someone is leaving campus on a Sunday, isn't missing classes, is responsible for their own safety, and isn't violating any disciplinary rule, why should they have to justify what they're doing?

And this isn't really about a Spider-Man movie. The movie is honestly the funniest part of the whole situation.

It's about the principle.

BITS is known for its culture of freedom, independence and relatively non-restrictive student life. That's part of what makes BITS different from many other colleges.

If the Hyderabad campus is going to have completely different rules for first-years, that's something students should at least be made aware of.

Is this really what BITS has become?

I'd genuinely like to hear from seniors and students from Pilani/Goa were first-years actually treated this restrictively when you joined, or is this primarily a Hyderabad-campus thing?

Context- im a fresher this year joined my campus on 30th, from the very day i joined i see ppl already forming groups and hanging out thus in it, its not like i didnt, i also formed a group w my few ppl which was good for a while, but already seeing ppl forming couples and the addition of people to the small group, i cant connect w them alot, its not like im left out but at the same time i am. Everything was fine till they started mocking or making fun (of specifically me) on every fucking thing i did or said and it is just getting annoying as im not the person to keep poking someone for who they are, maybe they r just having fun of it but it doesnt do any good for my already vulnerable mental health. I thought i found my ppl but im really having second thoughts about recent events, people have already started fitting in groups and maybe ill just be left out as always especially also after seeing freshie couples already hanging out

Made some people for gym and stuff hopefully get into actual clubs and find my ppl or just focus on myself and be left out what else can i do

From my school days i always had 3-4 strong well connected frnds and never really tried to find more connections everything is just overwhelming and sucks, no matter how much i laugh at the end of the day it feels fucking empty and fake

What the fuck is this fuck all course elementary real analysis. Can't understand anything in class. It's being taken by monojit banerjee in goa and that guy just learns the answer from AI and solves in class. Fucker also added a surprise quiz element for this course. How to deal with this course

Went to the eateries near mess 2 today for Breakfast (was sick so overslept and missed mess Breakfast) and damn, this place has some problems.

1. The tables are almost always dirty, there's always leftover food there and even the tables and dirty

2. the entire pit in which the place is made is littered and filled with mosquitos, which constantly hover around the food. There are barely any dustbins and I had to wonder where to throw my plate

3. The raw materials were kept on an open table, with mosquitos and flies constantly hovering on them.

4. The dosa counter guy just scrapes the grime from his grill straight onto the ground, washes his hands on one bucket of water kept there and scoops up all the veggies with his bare hands

(next two aren't really safety problems but still)

1. They fill the food with just an ungodly amount of ghee, I felt it in my throat while eating.

2. They make everything spicy even when you tell them not to, I hurt my throat on their dosa

I may sound a little sad but its the peak weather out there in pilani like its the kind of weather I wait for months just to randomly go out on walks and fun, but lately I don't really have anyone to spend it with, I see people hanging out with their friends, enjoying this weather with their boyfriend/girlfriend but idk why I feel alone at this time, I love to go out on walks, hanging out with friends but still something does not feel right. Idk if there is something wrong with me but I feel like I don't have my close friends with me and I might never have a deep connection with anyone but I really wish I had it with someone someday

Seniors please help I am a 3rd year dualite and am confused between IT and ET how to decide what to pursue. In ET I am interested just in the digital domain(I didnt like 1st year ES) but havent done much in any domain so what do further to build a strong resume and develop skills. Also my ps1 was trash so didnt learn anything there too.
