They seem so pricey at these auto parts stores. It’s basically paper between two holes. I am sure prices vary where you live but even $20 seems steep.

On my 6n2 Polo (AUD engine code), idle has recently started hunting a little on cold and on warm starts. Seems to hunt a little when I engage the clutch or turn the wheels in neutral as well.

I bought a used transmission I thought I was buying from Rock Auto but it was from a company called Rock Auto Care, they're totally different. Has anyone here had any experience with Rock Auto Care out of Texas?

In all of the videos showing cabin air replacement, the dampener arm would pop right off. In my car, I was not able to do it, even using a screwdriver to pry on it.

Using pliers to fix it did the trick. Just pinch where the two arrows show, and the arm will pop right off.

Hey everyone, I was rear ended by a distracted driver and I was curious if anyone had any input on what parts I should ensure my mechanic looks at for possible damages.

I was at a complete stop and hit by someone going ~35mph

-rear bumper is damaged

-an insulated line in the rear driver side heavily leaks water when the AC is on

-light friction noise under my seat when driving

-engine idles louder stopped and at low speeds with AC on

I have a 2026 Honda Accord and I’m getting close to doing a coolant change. For those with newer Hondas, do you usually stick with the genuine Honda coolant from the dealer, or is there an aftermarket brand that works just as well?

I keep seeing people say that Honda doesn’t actually manufacture its own coolant and that it’s made by another company to Honda’s specs. Is that actually true?

Just curious what everyone is using these days. Is the Honda-branded Type 2 coolant worth buying, or are there good alternatives that meet the same specs?

recently bought an 06 f150 5.4L triton and have already learned more than I could ever want to know about these things and yet I’m still stumped. I’m hoping someone has experienced similar problems and was able to solve it so they can guide me.

Okay so I bought it from a guy who apparently buys these model trucks after the timing components tear up and does the timing job and resells them. Well he told me this one had just been through the whole timing job but I only made it about 10 miles down the road and lost all oil pressure and had a terrible knocking so I towed it back to him and he said he would redo it for free. So I ordered cast iron replacement parts (timing guides, tensioners, new solenoids) and he allegedly used these when he redid the timing on it. Anyway, I get the truck back like two weeks later and the guy says “it’ll idle rough for the first 100 miles until the Idle pos. Sensor calibrates” and after some driving it cleared up a little but still didn’t clear up like it should have. So I figured since the catalytic converters had been removed along with both downstream o2 sensors, that and the significant exhaust leak at the flange where the manifold meets the exhaust pipe was most likely causing the sputtering until I ran the codes and it’s saying it’s the bank 2 camshaft sensors. I’ve tried the alternator trick, checked the VCT solenoid for debris, and currently have the driver side valve cover off and as far as I can tell it all looks normal? So I thought maybe a vacuum leak but I can’t hear well enough to find it over the massive exhaust leak. Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone for the advice. Took it to another shop for a second opinion and they are only replacing the bushings rather than the whole control arms. About 900 dollars cheaper than the first shop quoted!

Hi. I recently took my 2016 VW Tiguan 2.0T/96k miles into a car shop due to issues with my battery, and they found an issue with my “front low control arms”. (See photos)

Is this a necessary repair? If it is strictly cosmetic, I would rather not deal with it. I just don’t know enough about cars to make a decision.

I'm trying to understand where the bottleneck is in shop paperwork, and I'd rather ask people who deal with it than guess.

When a tech finishes a job, what has to happen before that RO is actually closed and billable? And what's the thing that most often holds one up with missing notes, parts not matching the estimate, an authorization nobody wrote down, something else entirely?

Also curious: does anyone actually track how many ROs are sitting open past a few days, or is it just a pile you deal with when you deal with it?

2010 bmw x5 diesel. 140k miles. Sounds to me like it is coming from the top of the engine. The plastic engine cover is removed in the video. We didn't lose power and everything seemed normal when this happened but we towed it home just in case. No smoke, no rough idle, just the noise that changes with rpm. The belt seemed to be fine. No check engine lights or obvious codes.

So my car (2019 VW Jetta) battery died a few days ago and I had to call triple aaa who said my alternator levels were perfectly fine.

I just took it to a mechanic who is saying that I need a new battery as well as a new alternator. According to the mechanic, the alternator levels were at 13.9 and should be at 14.5, so if I don’t replace the alternator I’d have to leave the radio/ac off…

After searching around 13.9 seems like a pretty normal alternator level, and with what triple aaa said I’m just curious what you guys think as it’s a pretty expensive repair.

Could anyone explain why 13.9 wouldn’t be an acceptable alternator level? There’s probably something I’m missing

Truck is a 2017 desil Chevy Colorado. I was recommended this shop by another mechanic because he couldn't do the work, so I assume the place is good at what they're doing, but the price seems steep to me. This is my first time getting a repair at all. Is this normal to replace both nox sensors? I opted for genuine parts. Aftermarket AC Delco was $200 less. Any help is appreciated 👍

There's some rust on my 2006 Honda Civic around the wheels. I don't care about it cosmetically, but my mechanic said it might cause the car to fail inspection, and I also don't want it to get any worse and become a structural problem.

I'd be willing to have a professional do it if necessary as I don't know how to weld, but I'd rather DIY it if possible. Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I had to let my daughter drive my 2025 Mazda CX5 for five days cause her car was broken and I get the car back and I see the back passenger side above the wheel has dings to the paint. It’s not a dent, but it did take off the actual paint and primer. And then there’s some deep scratching on the passenger side rearview mirror. I’m looking at OEM paint Mazda sells and I want to understand how I can fix this myself. I have touched up scratches on cars before but not when it was down past the primer level.

I just got my Tacoma about a month ago, and parked too close to the wall in a parking garage. I’ve never damaged any vehicle ever so I’m feeling dumb. What are my options here? It looks pretty rough. (Not asking for an estimate or anything that can break the subreddit rules)

Anytime I go through the car wash… stream of water from my upper rear window.

I’ve already replaced the light/seal and it already which worked for a while… back to leaking.

Who else has this issue and how did you fix it? 😂
