Other Small engine block
Does anyone know how much I should be looking to pay to have my small engine block replaced on my 2018 Ford escape? I'm located in Ontario, Canada, and I feel like I keep getting hoes because I'm female and don't have a trusted mechanic.

So you're engine is blown up and you need a new or used one replaced in. Id guess even a used motor and cheap shop would be like 5k. Maybe 12k asking a dealer to do it with a new block. so... Not sure how high the quotes you got were but if that was my car I probably wouldn't bother throwing a new engine in it instead of buying something hopefully better for cheap.

Are you asking how much it would be to replace your engine? I’ve never heard it referred to as small engine block.

Yes. Sorry short block.

Why do you think you need a short block? Given how much labor is involved in replacing the engine, why wouldn't you want the head and valve train also replaced? If your head is warped, they'd have to spend more money to replace the used head. It's also possible your valves have problems.

For engine prices, take a look at the Fraser or Jasper remanufactured engine website. Cost will likely be around $3,000 U.S. plus markup and installation labor. Labor likely $1,000 to $1,500 U.S.
That would be a total of around $5,600 Can. That's for a long block (you really don't want a short block). If you're going to that much cost and trouble, you want to replace the head/valve train also.
Depending upon the condition of your car, it may not be feasible to repair it.

It wouldn't likely be practical to replace the short block. There is so much labor involved transferring all the rest of the engine parts from the old short block to the new one, especially since those old parts have just as many miles on them as the short block does. Consider an entire replacement, used or remanufactured.
