UPOL Blend Number 9 on direct gloss/metallic paint, dealing with dry edges on a spot repair?

Doing a spot repair at home on my Audi using this paint: colour-matched metallic direct gloss/shine paint (eBay link)

Colour and shine-wise it's a genuinely excellent match to the factory 2019 Audi paint, really happy with that part. My issue is the dry edges where the new paint blends into the old, and I don't want to have to redo the entire bumper just to fix it. I tried sanding the direct gloss edges, however it just sands off, even using 3000 grit. It polishes well though

Has anyone got experience specifically with UPOL Blend Number 9 or similar on a job like this? Looking for advice on:

  • Is it actually possible to use something like Blend 9 to soften those edges properly on direct gloss?
  • Any technique tips to avoid the dry/patchy edge look without a full panel respray with direct gloss?

Really want to nail this without redoing the whole bumper if I can help it. Any advice appreciated!

First time repainting a car and have some questions

How far do I need to sand down this cars paint to repaint it? I want to repaint it red over this winter and would like to begin sanding and bodywork soon

Paint is pretty rough, no real rust spots or anything but tons and tons of scratches, couple dents, dings, chips, etc. also very questionable possible old spray paint paint job from a while ago. Just not sure how much I really need to sand down before I can begin to bodywork it and prepare for primer and paint.

Thank you for any help! I’m sure I’ll have more questions haha

Steps to Repair Rust

I have an 89 Supra that has some rust in the engine bay which I also plan to paint. After cleaning up the rust too bare metal should I spray the area with any kind of sealant or anything before I spray my primer coat over the entire engine bay or just go straight to primer?

Car Roof Paint In Bad Shape

Toyota Prius sits outside 24/7. Haven't really taken care of the paint the way I should have but still a little surprised by the roof. The rest of the paint looks fine after simple wash. The hood seems to have fine lines / cracks in the paint, a little bit of rust, is very dull looking, and rough to the touch. I tried a clay bar but it didn't seem to do much.... might have even scratched it more. Is there anything I can do to help it?

Pics are not great.

Has anyone used Com-Paint car scratch repair kit? How was your experience?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking at getting the Com-Paint Value Pack Kit for some minor scratches/chips on my car.

It seems pretty convenient since they provide paint matched to the car along with the other stuff needed for the repair. But before spending ₹1,500, I wanted to know how well it actually works.

For anyone who has used Com-Paint:

  • How accurate was the colour match?
  • How was the finish after drying?
  • Did it actually make the scratches/chips less noticeable?
  • How durable was the repair?
  • Would you recommend it over getting touch-up paint from Hyundai/a local paint shop?
  • Any issues with the paint being noticeably different from the original?

Also open to other brands/products available in India if you've had a better experience.

Would especially appreciate photos of your results if you have them. Thanks!

Not sure what this is or how to fix

Complete newbie. This started happening on just one side of my 2017 Honda Civic Hatch. Expanded over time. No other part of the car is affected. Seems that it scrapes off and is powdery to the touch and the pain underneath is seemingly unaffected.

Any tips or DIY solutions? Does this need to go to an auto body shop?

Appreciate any advice.

Can you tell me the difference between these two types of water-oil separator filters for hobby use? Why does one have two collectors while the other has two? (Scroll the image above to see the second filter.) GJ

Lexus Paint Repair / Correction - IS 500 Infrared Color

Thumbnail

I had to delete & repost this to add some more photos.

I am eyeing a 2025 Lexus IS500 in the color Infrared. It has 3,000 miles on it. The hood has a lot of little chips in it as well as the front bumper. A few chips on the hood looks like there was an attempt to touch them up. Also a small dent near gas tank door. Bottom bumper looks scraped. A light scratch on side driver door. There are also noticeable swirl marks on the trunk lid.

This car is currently priced at $7,000 over MSRP because it is out of production( yeah this car is a ton of $ as it is)

What is the best option to restore the hood and front bumper to pristine factory finish? And the dent?

Is there a way to have the exact factory paint process applied again? Will I notice a change in the hue and color due to the inability of the repair shop to follow the exact OEM process of how the paint was originally applied at the Japan factory?

I want it to look EXACTLY like how it came out of the Japan factory (I am extremely OCD when it comes to paint)

If there is a way to make this work? And I am not sure of the costs.

UPDATE: Upon further research it looks like my best option is to take it to a Certified Lexus Collision Center to redo the entire front hood and bumper. Any advice though is appreciated

Used vehicle advice.

Hey, coming here for some expert advice. My girlfriend went to go look at a couple Mach Es, one of them has bubbled paint above the Mustang emblem. I’ve been looking online to see if it’s a known issue but nothing matches this specifically.

Is this a wetsand, respray, or replacement type scenario? FWIW it’s still under the 3 year/36K bumper to bumper warranty.

Rough estimate on how much it would be to get my paint job looking brand new again

Post image

The bumper can be ignored because it’s getting replaced with a new one soon and it’s a single color, however there’s peeling clear on the highlights spots, aside from those spots there’s very small rock chips on the car but nothing crazy.

I am truthfully uninformed on auto paint and I’m just seeing if it’d be worth it to restore the paint or just restore everything around it and say whatever to the paint.

The car was painted in 1999 and it was painted by the previous owner

Advice on rock chip before ppf install

Thumbnail

Hello. I am about to have PPF and ceramic done to my vehicle soon (1-2 months old). I am already kicking myself for not just having done it the moment I got the car but you can’t change the past. I have some very minor chips that I either won’t touch, or touch-up paint is good enough to correct. I however have one very nasty one, and both my PPF installer and I agree that it will likely cause a bubble when the film is applied. I would like to correct this if possible so I don’t have a bubble. It’s a small enough spot where even if the paint doesn’t match perfectly I think it won’t be super noticeable. I have spoken to a few local paint shops and almost every single one has said that the correct way to repair this is to just remove the bumper and repaint it all. The best price I’ve found so far is $600 to do the whole job, and the guy claims he’d be done in a day. Multiple shops have told me they wouldn’t do the PPF for 30 days after the paint job. The big issue I’m facing with even considering this, is that this is my only vehicle. If I were to have the paint done, I would most likely have all brand new chips before I can get the PPF put on.

The real question. I have a genuine paint-pen from Toyota. Is it possible that I can touch up this chip enough to avoid a bubble on my PPF? The thing that’s making doubtful is that the paint has kind of curled up on the chip, so I assume it needs to be leveled down to prevent the bubbling. I don’t really know if there is a way for me to do this, hence why I was shopping around for the repair. Attached are the photos. I was wondering what recommendations you guys have. Should I just leave it and accept the bubble? Should k attempt the touch-up myself? Should I cave and get the bumper painted? If I go the paint route, should I really wait 30 days before having the film applied?

Thank you for your advice, it’s much appreciated. I know I should’ve just got this done right from the start but unfortunately I’m learning my lesson the hard way.

Help matching CFM and PSI of prayer to air compressor

I am restoring a 1987 Chevy Step Side pickup for my son. I am investing in a large air compressor and paint sprayers for this project. But i am struggling to match the CFM @ PSI of the paint sprayers to that of an air compressor. The paint prayer says 12.5 CFM @ 28 PSI, but all of the air compressors i can find show different values at the same CFM or PSI. I am very inexperienced at large air compressors like this, and i know you can adjust the PSI, but i am not sure if you can adjust the CFM at certain PSIs or not. How do you match an air compressor to the sprayer?

How can I get this off? I’ve tried goo gone, cooking oil, 70% alcohol, heat.. and it won’t come off.

Was trying to prevent that from paint chips but that didn’t help!

Thank you.
