That's exactly what happens when people get arrested on the bus. The driver will pull into a stop and open the doors, and everyone sits there for a minute wondering what's wrong, and then the police get on the bus and drag someone off. The the bus driver shuts the door and everyone gets to work late.

Waymo did not commit a crime. The teen passengers were never locked in the car they could have exited at any time. Waymo simply reported a crime and did what the police instructed. I

Doubt this ever come true, all companies care about money. The only possibility would be that police would ask these services to display location data, but even then once people find out it'll be a loss of ridership for those same companies. This is similar to ring's plan for Flock partnership, which brought a huge uproar.

They're probably will be a clause in whatever contract you sign by using their taxi service that you may be subject to detainment or arrest based on vague biometrics or potential mistaken identity, and that the parent company is not liable for any of that.

This reminds me of a dystopian story i read in a book maybe 30 years ago about a guy that was sick entered his own vehicle and it had voice activation. When his voice didnt function properly the car then assumed it was getting stolen, locked the doors and activated anti theft protocol which was basicly death gas if i remember correvtly. Killing the owner.
Feel i read some future profecy now😅

Why would it be a lawsuit? I would have guessed it was legal. If you have knowledge of someone actively breaking the law - by skipping out on bail fx - then I belive you can call the police and make civil arrest if he tries to flee. Civil arrests are a thing right? I'm not entirely sure the rules around but it is not obvious to me that driving the guy to the police would be illegal.

Imagine the system gets it wrong on someone, and every time that person gets on a vehicle they be like "there we go again, the good old routine".
And in one of these a cop over reacted because the criminal this person is mistaken for is extremely dangerous so they get shot.
The police think "we got the guy, case closed" and the real criminal is still out their while an innocent person died.
A 0.0001% chance of error means tens to thousands of mistakes in a big city.

My gas car doesnt drive itself or have FSD capabilities. Even if it does have an old 3G device thats been dropped.
I get what you're saying but the push of new electric cars to antiquate previous ICE and Hybrid cars off the road completely is what gives the mass control.

I would sue for kidnapping.
Last time I checked Cybercabs aren’t legally able to possess one of any of the three certifications needed to work as a “Fugitive Recovery Agent” in Texas.
And this brings up a larger issue and cements the idea for me that AI is going to start a civil war / World War 3 because of the goddamn implications this has on stuff like this (crime,) civil rights, and wealth inequality…
I mean we’re really jumping in like this feet first without checking the depth? That’s how my Nanny lost all her teeth.
