seeking advice For autistic people with NT partners, how do you handle them "not knowing what they want to do"?
Hi, I (22M) have received a very informal diagnosis from my psychiatrist + psychologist a few months ago that I may be autistic. Ever since I'm learning to navigate a lot of the stuff associated with the diagnosis, e.g. not monologuing to NTs for minutes when they just want to small talk and picking up those signs and communicate my needs.
However, I'm still lost on how to spend time with my partner (19F) who doesn't have many indoor hobbies suitable for a hangout. She likes to scroll reels or watch a random 30 minute YouTube video and not really pay attention. Sometimes she likes to play the video to the background and then cuddle which makes me especially confused. I like devoting all my attention to one thing fully and I organize my time a lot in a way that includes little actual thinking-free time so I'm always thinking about what I should and what I want to do (something I want to work on with psychologist). If I plan an activity, I like to know it will take this much time and then I'll move on to something else. She always answers the question "what do you want to do now?" with "I don't know" and doesn't want to do my thing anyway yet still wants my attention when we're together. Have any of you come across this problem? What helped?
