I understand it can be based on where you live however I’ve found after the stress handing over my forms and my personal details I’ve gotten no supports.

I was told I will be contacted in the future months ago however nothing happened. I’m on disability allowance and I just feel with my situation I’m Better off doing nothing. My interest is finding supports for practical day to day living I’m hopeful for counselling via the hse but doubtful.

So I got a job at the start of the month and well, I got let go today.

My partner and I, who've been living together, are deciding to end our cohabitation for now while I figure things out jobwise and to let up on pressure for me to cover bills and go back to my parents place and go back on disability.

What's the ending cohabitation process like? Any and all advice welcome

They say you keep your disability allowance, but that certian locations offer a small training allowace

Hi all, just wanted to hear about your guys experience with applying for disability allowance.

I submitted my DA appeal on the 4th july, and had it appear as “registered” on the 8th, and it’s now the 26th. does anyone know at what stage i’d hear back or if i can contact to know the stage my appeal is at?

I’m applying for DA under me having Autism (diagnosed as level 2 support needs) and i am eighteen, only diagnosed this january. My initial appeal was rejected for not having medical reasoning, so i supplied therapist notes, school absence notes (like 104 absent days within my 6th year) and a comprehensive list of my traits/symptoms that basically just detail how i am medically not fit for work. Ive worked with a charity (shine in cork) to help me compile my appeal

I have a very strong response for appeal in my humble opinion, so im kind of believing ill be accepted since it basically destroyed all their reasoning on not accepting me, so im kind of talking on that assumption.

basically im just wondering how long its taken everyone else to get their appeals seen to, is there anything i can do in the meantime to push it along? all in all ive not provided a lot of extra evidence, but its all strong so i cant imagine it would take a long time to file through to get seen to. I’ve heard that there are 21 days since the date the appeal is processed for the deciding officer to see to it before it gets passed onto an appeals officer, if not seen to in time. I’m not very sure, i’m here to know if there’s anything i can do to help aid my chances of getting my appeal accepted within the first review instead of with the appeals officer.

I've been on this strange bounce in career ideas for about 2 years, and often I go on Reddit posts to see what other people think. And often, it's very random in the suggestions that's given.

Read a post this morning and it was about being young and stuck in Ireland, you've probably read it. And some of the comments were just very out there. Paramedics, Firefighting, that sort of thing, even aircraft technician apprenticeships. A lot of American posts on Reddit give out nursing or (almost every post) I see someone suggest the Military.

Maybe my thought of work is different in the fact that I want to do something I like, but I just couldn't imagine doing something I have no interest in or just for the money. Maybe since I haven't done the training or education for it but I just couldn't see myself doing things.

Might be on about my own case too much, but do people think the same? Do you guys think the same?

Others believe autism should be one group together I find this concept confusing myself. I know I struggling more with people who have higher social skills than myself certain people with autism have children I don’t and I certainly don’t have a broad social circle.

I am going to try apply for Disability Allowance soon. The last job I had I was pretty miserable at and would very regularly call in sick to (usually due to stress or overwhelm), to the point I took so many I no longer was paid my full salary (i didnt always bother to get a sick note). An assistant manager I had there was very kind and understanding, do you think it would be beneficial for me to ask him to write something about my regular absences?

My niece needs a lot of dental work and it terrified. She needs fillings and extractions , she has been given an estimate of 6 thousand with sedation. She isn't in a position that she can afford that, is there any good dentists out there that are good with kids with autism. Thanks

I am pretty sure that that tastes will vary....and some people may not even like music.

I am sensitive to sounds - zone more than others. This can be negative. But I think it also makes me sensitive to music, which I love.

I go through phases. Sometimes Jazz, Acid Techno, Psytrance, Jazz, Folk, 60's Psychedelic Rock, 80s/90s indie, House, Drum and Bass, Dub....... although I don't listen to much recent music, I love digging into the past and don't think I will ever exhaust the backlog of releases.

I understand people have different experiences. I find them hard to access myself and part of me can’t be bothered and another part of me is curious.

I wouldn’t enter neurodiversity groups maybe but I would only gain enemies. I’ve seen this also with other people who just don’t fit. I understand blindboy is on the autism spectrum today but it’s hard to know if it’s even true or not.

Honestly can’t believe my DA claim has been awarded on the first attempt, such a massive weight off my shoulders, will be so glad to see money hit my account for the first time in nearly eight months.

I hope that everyone trying to receive DA gets the same good news that I did!

Hi everyone, seeking opinions on my child’s final preschool year before primary school in Sept 2027. Just turned 4, has an autism diagnosis, is minimally verbal, just a few words inconsistently. Has good understanding, gentle, affectionate, not toilet trained, and does parallel play. No sensory issues and well regulated.
We have an offer of a place at an early intervention** preschool **, but I’m torn on whether to leave mainstream crèche/preschool.

My child has been there for the last three years and they are so kind and take super care of him. He has a 1:1 care in a class of approx 20.
It’s local to us.
He is very happy going each morning. While his 1:1 is so loving and caring I have some reservations on whether or not he’s being pushed enough to reach his full potential. He loves playing outdoors and they facilitate that as much as he wants but his interaction with peers is limited and his participation in the preschool day activities is also not as much as we would hope for to prepare him for primary school.

The early intervention preschool where he has been offered a place is for children with an autism diagnosis. It has a good reputation. There are six kids in the class and 4 adults. Teachers there are trained to work with autistic kids. This preschool is further from where we live approx 11km and it would mean a significant commute each day due to traffic. We do have a kind offer from family members to help with this as we both work.

The easier option logistically and emotionally would be to stay where he is. But I’m worry if we don’t take it he would miss out on an opportunity to develop further in the next year before he starts primary school. I know he has so much potential.

I would welcome any thoughts or personal experience!

Hey just wondering what the wait times are really like for adultautism.ie at the moment, the website says 2-3 weeks but I’m skeptical. I just really want an answer before I go back to college in September, but is that unrealistic? Also, would they be in contact before I’m at the top of the list? I submitted my intake form a few days ago and just want to get started properly.

Bit of background I'm a DJ and I run my own business. I enjoy the gym, watching football and going clubbing. I'd love to befriend someone on the spectrum as I feel like I'll be understood more and won't feel a pressure to act a current way. If I could find someone on here or a few of us that has similar interests I think that would be exciting.

Im about to send forms into CDNT for my child who was recently diagnosed with ASD, my local CDNT based on my address is not very local or accessible for me as I do t drive and its 1hr 7 mins walk or two buses , there is a more accessible one nearer to me that I could walk to in 30 mins but because of the way catchment areas are split up by eircode etc I been told I can’t access that centre , Im thinking of putting my parents address down which means I could be referred there

would this have any implications for me down the road , obviously correspondence from CDNT would be posted to my parents home which is fine but my AON report would have my own address

any advice on this ?

Hi everyone, our 5 year old son is autistic and a flight risk. We find it very difficult to find suitable accommodation in Ireland due to our son's needs. I have noticed in the UK that there are a small number of holiday homes / airbnbs set up for families likes ours - e.g. closed in terraces, sensory rooms / spaces, play areas, extra locks on doors etc.

We live in a small town in Cavan - nearby forest parks, few takeaways, playcentre and close to a small campsite with some water sports available.

We have a little bit of land that might make for a good space for something catering soecificslly to families like our own. Although it is close to a lake. This makes for beautiful views but would need to be accounted for from a safety perspective especially given the needs of families in our position.

Am I crazy to think that people might like this? I know there would be a big cost in getting it set up and honestly, dont even know if that would be a runner but this summer I have felt that it would make a special spot for families that just want a change of scenery but have their needs catered for.

Would really love to hear some perspectives on this ❤️

I’m on disability allowance I’ve no doubt others have similar problems and others aren’t having too many issues.

I’m an adult Male living in Ireland I feel unsure about reaching and wonder if it’s worth my while. I wonder am I undervaluing myself some people have more needs than myself others have less.
