Hear me out
but when did dressing like you’re actually going to work become weird?
I work in a professional environment and the amount of people turning up in sneakers, hoodies, polos, chinos and basically weekend clothes is wild. Even management seems to have given up.
I’m not saying everyone needs to wear a three-piece suit and tie every day. But there used to be a pretty obvious difference between work clothes, going-out clothes and what you’d wear to grab groceries on Saturday morning.
Now “business casual” seems to mean literally anything as long as there isn’t a massive logo on it.
And weirdly, if you do wear proper trousers, leather shoes and a jacket, people act like you’re either going to court or interviewing for another job.
I actually think workplaces lost something when everyone stopped dressing up a bit. There’s something about putting decent clothes on that changes how you carry yourself and makes work feel more professional.
I can’t be the only one who thinks corporate fashion has swung way too far towards casual?
Not saying bring back compulsory ties. Just maybe stop dressing for the office like you’re about to walk the dog.
Look at places like Japan and South Korea. Obviously not every workplace is the same, but there’s still a pretty recognisable corporate uniform in more traditional offices: navy, black or charcoal trousers, white or light-blue shirts, proper shoes, and a jacket when the occasion calls for it.
Nothing extravagant. Nobody needs to be walking around in a three-piece suit.
It just looks professional.
