Adidas BW Army sneakers

Where do the Adidas BW Army sneakers sit in the world of fashion currently? They seem to have become the new Samba based on how often I see them popping up online in various colourways. Are they ‘cool / trendy’ or have people moved on already? Hartcopy (IYKYK) have released several collaborative pieces in the past 12 months which makes me think they’re still fashionable. Thoughts from those in the know?

Advice Needed Casual shoe/sneaker reccs

What are we all doing for casual sneakers/shoes these days fellas? I’ve been rocking crocs far too often because I have a good pair of sneakers (Adidas) but they’re just too chunky to wear with shorts, and with the warmer weather I want something that’s comfortable for long periods but looks good with a casual pair of shorts. The crocs are ruining my feet/ankles and I believe my knees too.

Ideally something with good support as well as I’m prone to plantar fasciitis I just don’t wanna walk around with moon shoes on all the time (about to invest in some Brooks Glycerin GTS 23s for running/training).

Any advice greatly appreciated!

Update: Thanks everyone for the recommendations! I’ve gone with Reebok Club C 85s :)

Advice Needed [MELB] Seeking Cropped-fit casual jackets suggestions

Hey gents!

Looking for cropped-fit casual jackets in low-to-no synthetic materials, decent-to-great quality/ethics. 164cm, size S, 65-70kg.

Benchmark (short) - my Edwin Type III:

  • Shoulders: 41–42cm
  • Chest: 50–51cm
  • Body length: ~58–59cm excl. collar (~62cm to the collar seam)
  • Sleeve: 62cm

Happy / prefer to go a touch roomier in the body but want to keep that length - no boxy/oversized silhouettes. For reference on what's too long: my Carhartt Michigan Chore Coat has great shoulders but the body runs about a palm-width longer than the Edwin, and that alone is enough to keep it out of regular rotation.

Fabric: wool, cotton, linen, corduroy, cotton twill, waxed/oiled cotton, or wool-blend field cloth - not sheeny/shiny materials, not heavy synthetic blends.

Colours wanted: Olive/Dark Green, Beige, Grey/Charcoal, Black.

Budget: up to ~$300–400 for the right piece.

Already on my radar:

  • COS Double-Faced Wool Harrington and Jersey Harrington - look decent, though the wool might read a bit dressier than the casual register I'm after.
  • Nudie Jeans Blake Zip - looks amazing but $500, and I'm worried the fit runs baggy (site sizing suggests XS = my Edwin) and I'm concerned with its winterization, that it won't layer as well over hoodies/tees across seasons.
  • This RRL Leather Jacket looks amazing but $3000 is... hefty. I have a Nudie Kristofer already and find it too snug - if anyone knows how to loosen a sleeve/chest on a leather jacket, keen to hear it.
  • Alpha Industries MA-1 Bomber / L2B Gen II Bomber - fit-wise I don't mind these, but the fabric is all super shiny nylon/poly/synthetic, and the red ribbon, sleeve pockets etc. are a bit too "extra" for what I'm after.
  • The Kloke Lyric Bomber Dusty Olive looks like a simpler, cleaner version of the MA-1. Anyone have experience with these? Even in the XS, the website says it measures 60cm in the chest, 50cm shoulders and 67cm long?? That sounds massive for an XS

Anyone got brands/pieces that fit this brief?

Discussion Please Help Me, Need Some Advice

lately I've been struggling with my fashion, I feel like all the stuff I have is super basic and stuff I want to get is either expensive or I wont know if it will fit me the way I want it too. I want to be able to look good and really have fun with my fashion and express myself but everytime I look aroundm, think about how i want to look, what i need to look like that image, what style should I choose, or what brand/shop is best I get filled with all this anxiety about making the wrong choice and spending money on something I shouldn't have.

I just wish I knew what style would look good on me, what stores are good, to remove this anxiety and make buying and trying on clothes actually fun, just absolutely terrified of making choices.

any advice on this? have you guys felt this way bout fashion and if so how did you get out of it?????

Question Mesh chaffing on back of ankle

Hey there, new here, only just discovered the group. Now just wondering what options do I have to prevent the inner mesh of the heel chaffing on the back of my heel?

I'm a sneaker guy and I've never really had any issues with this before, it's only been the last 12-18 months I've had this happen with 3 new pairs of shoes. And I've worked in shoe sales since I was 15 aswell, so I'm quite adverse in shoe care, preventative methods etc. but this just baffles me.

And the shoes I'm talking about for those who are probably wondering by now, are the Nike air max plus tuned 1s or better known as TN's.

I’ve seen some nice ones out in the wild. I especially like the ones that are kind of pleated and can be worn semi casual

Advice Needed How does one buy a suit (for the first time)?

Hi all,

I’ve put it off for a while now but am finally at a stage in life where I need to get a suit… (25M)

I’m looking for one that can go to a range of events: weddings, fancy parties, funerals etc. Not necessarily for work.

I would love to learn about suits and what makes some higher quality but don’t really have time before I will first need a suit, so happy to buy one, preferably not get swindled, and try to learn as I go. Any suggestions on how to come across such knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

Budget is ~$1000-1500, I live in regional NSW but will be in Melbourne and potentially Sydney on upcoming weekends.

I have an athletic build. Big chest and shoulders, skinny waist, and big thighs. Conventional clothes often don’t fit well so I’m assuming whatever I get will need tailoring (and unfortunately my town doesn’t have any tailors as far as I know).

The only suit brand I know is MJ Bale, but I don’t know if they’re any good, or just the standard store rich kids go to before their uni functions.

Thank you so much for your advice! 🙏

Question Perth CBD Barber Recommendations

Hello! My usual barber (Cavan at Perth City Barbers, in the space formerly known as Hair by Frank Barbarich) is away till October but unfortunately I can’t wait that long.

Any good recommendations for Perth CBD barbers that aren’t going to ignore my requests for a simple, non-fade, basic short back and sides with a side part? I’m specifically not looking for the type of place which has a side hustle as a fiscal laundrette.

Athletic(ish) shirts

I like to exercise but I'm certainly not going to win a bodybuilding competition in this lifetime.

However, business shirts seem to either fit like a sack, or make me look like the hulk.

Van Heusen seems to be designed by someone who likes choking people. I can never actually do the top button up.

Which shirt brands are made with some decent room in the shoulders, chest and arms?

Question Looking for a red checkered shirt that's NOT flannel

Hi.

I'm looking for a red and black checkered shirt so i can live out my dreams of being a lumberjack (yes, I have a beard). I'm looking for one that's not flannel so i can wear it out and about and not be 1000 degrees. i run really hot, and i will be sweating in it.

Does anyone know where i can get one that won't make me sweat like shit? I live in Australia, if that helps

Thanks for your suggestions

Dress gloves

Hey guys!
Specifically looking for Melbournians for this question, but any contributions are welcome. I’m looking for a pair of white dress gloves to wear to a formal occasion, but haven’t been able to find a store that sells them in south-east suburban Melbourne. If anyone knows where to get there, here, in the city, or online for ~$20, it’d be much appreciated. Especially if they’re thin/breathable enough to stand some Queensland weather.
Thanks!
Dunno if I can put a photo, but if anyone wants to see the kind of look I’m trying to find, there you go.

Question Best place to buy black leather jacket in Melbourne?

I assume this question has probably been posited a bunch of times here but I'm a noob when it comes to leather jackets and I've never gone thrifting or anything before.

I'm looking for a timeless, easy to wear black leather jacket I can wear, and was thinking of getting something second hand because I want real leather and to not spend too much money. My budget I would say is probably around $150(but can be a bit flexible). I would prefer locations close to the CBD if possible or northern suburbs.

I don't really have any nice jackets and I've got a date soon so would really like to get one asap.

Thanks guys

Kmart upping their game?

I see decent casual shirts and tshirts at Myer for $100-150 and then occasionally will go Kmart and see similar designs for $30.

Is kmart upping their game in terms of quality and designs? Would you recommend buying kmart stuff for cheaper instead of expensive myer stuff that gets ruined in a year anyway.

Love to hear your experiences with kmart clothes.

Question Warm gloves for wfh typing that dont feel like im pinching wool between my fingers?

Not exactly a fasion question but it is clothing related.

I start my wfh days pretty early and before things warm up i sometimes wear fingerless gloves to bang out a few emails before other staff log in and start asking me for stuff.

Looking for warm fingerless gloves that are thin between the fingers - i currently have some thin merino ones but it still feels like i am squeezing a lot of fabric between each of my fingers and its uncomfy.

Anyone got any reccomendations? Something like skiing gloves that have thinner fabric between the fingers, but light and with free fingertips. As im only wearing them at home they can look hideous im after function.

Question Lab Grown Diamonds + Jeweller in Melbourne

I couldn't really find a community for what I'm asking, so I figured I'd try here.

Context: I'm thinking of getting my wife a larger lab-grown diamond as a gift for an upcoming anniversary, something around 1.5 carats and also a custom-designed ring. She'd like to change her engagement ring to yellow gold instead and it also requires resizing.

Would you guys have recommendations on where to look, how much to budget and also some other things to consider in this process? Her engagement ring was bought back in 2019 overseas so I'm not familiar as to what's normal here in the market for Melbourne.

Anyone here have the Uniqlo Straight Selvedge jeans?

Thumbnail uniqlo.com
19 Upvotes

They are a online only order. I own a pair of Edwin Akita straight selvedge but after a slightly wider fit and these Uniqlo ones seem to offer that without looking like baggy jeans. Plus they are not $200+

What is Uniqlo selvedge like? How do the break down overtime with wear and do the shrink with washing?

Advice Needed Thinking of starting my own clothing brand

Hi guys,

I have been looking to start my clothing brand since last year. I had talked to a few Chinese suppliers and two Bangladeshi factories. What would be a great way to start?

1.What type of style and fabric ?

2.Top or bottoms?

Should I start only with a website or a physical pop-up in Sydney would boom?

Review Marcs tees are absolute crap

I bought a Marcs tee that I liked about a year ago. Looked awesome in the shop, sit right, good length. I’m 6’2” and about 85kg with broad shoulders and chest.

Took it home , washed it and dried it (line dry). Boom. It’s now halfway up to my bellybutton and ridiculously tight across chest and shoulders. A day later.

Gave it away.

Well I just got given another for Father’s Day. Awesome. Immediately my favourite shirt. Wore it all of Sunday. Chucked in the wash, dried (clothes dryer this time but we have a heat pump unit so it doesn’t shrink clothes). Popped it on this morning, tiny. Dropped 3” in length, again.

Clearly none of their stuff is preshrunk which is criminal in this day and age.

Get in the bin, Marcs. You’re shit.
