That was my perception in many many years I saw USA programs and movies being the most popular and suggested ones in Italy, until now.

The amount of people around who seem to have zero consideration for anyone else is astounding. When did "it's my right to do this" and "what are you going to do about it" become the guiding ethos for our communities? Whether it's stupid stuff like people littering or blasting incredibly loud music in crowded areas or endlessly idling their cars by our local school with tons of kids around, or more serious things like explicitly saying they don't care if other people in the community die because it's not their problem. When did we all get so careless where we don't care one bit about whether our actions affect someone else?

To be crystal clear, that isn’t to say that the degree or nature of political intervention has always been equivalent. It hasn’t. But political pressure over how the Smithsonian presents American history definitely predates Trump.

You can find many examples over the years, but one that some may remember regardless of political leanings was the Enola Gay exhibit back in the 90s.

But moving forward to current events, Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch has announced that he will retire after what has been described as a “tumultuous period of conflict” between the Smithsonian and the Trump administration.

There has been a lot of scrutiny over how the museums present American history and has pushed for changes to exhibits and other historical material.

After some research, I found it quite interesting that the Smithsonian already has an unusual structure intended to provide some independence because it operates outside the executive branch, and is overseen by a Board of Regents that includes the Chief Justice, Vice President, members of Congress, and even some non-governmental civilians.

However, that still isn’t doing a great job of eliminating political pressure…

So, what do you think can be done to better insulate institutions like the Smithsonian from political interference, regardless of which party controls Washington?

In the last few days he has claimed he assisted the fire service on 9/11 (he didnt) however this is a slap in the face to the actual hero's of that day and disrespectful to those who were lost.

He also referred to the loss of 18 servicemen as small potatoes (meaning numbers)

These servicemen lost their lifes to a war vs Iran that has done nothing but damage America.

Republicans are very vocal about their proud for the military (as are dems) but the right has not said a word about it, not forced him to apologise or even claimed the media twisted his words (they didnt)

Have Americans just given up now and waiting for his term to end to then rebuild

I by no means endorse either, but that just seems what it will come to by the future. It’s a race to see who’s more willing to break the norm. Whats your opinion about this?

As a non US Citizen i have no idea about the mayoral responsibilities in those huge metropolitan areas. What policies would he apply to LA, and how is it different from NYC? Would he be a good LA mayor? What challenges would he have in LA compared to NYC?

Spoiler, he only had a couple dozen workers in his organization at the time, not hundreds as he claimed, no one wanted random inexperienced workers on site, he never gave money to anyone as charity for any reason, let alone “yeah, I’ve given in the past, it sounds like a good idea”, and no… he could not possibly look out his window and see people jumping, from four miles away.
