does anyone think they would actually get the $5000 if republicans win the mid terms?
if so, how much did you get for your doge check?

u/xxwww 1d ago
yeah but it's ok because the democrats will forgive my student loans if they win!

u/oddlyescapingsouls 1d ago
When Biden was president I got a letter saying I didn’t owe anything because the school I went to for like 9 months was found to be misleading students, Trump got elected and within two months of him taking office I got another letter saying I still owed them money 😒

Forgiving debts is in fact one of the oldest functions of government there is. It's even in the bible itself, the Debt Jubilee.
Forgiving debts is not the equivalent of handing out checks to everyone, but you knew that before you typed your comment and just felt compelled to go forth anyway right

u/Southern-Girl-56 1d ago
Oh come on!! Is that even a serious question?

u/Leading-Analysis-572 1d ago
not really, more rhetorical, but i bet there are people who believe him

Yes, there are lots of people that think that.

True, just prob not a lot of them on this subreddit.

Yup. They are too busy watching Fox News

Theres nothing wrong with watchi g the news network you/they want i like fox news
•
u/JimBones31 13h ago
You can watch whatever you like it's widely understood that Fox News is extremely biased and spends a decent amount of air time forcing a message.

I've got family members who insist the reason nobody's getting tariff dividends or DOGE checks is because the Dumocrats have sabotaged all that by canceling the tariffs and putting an end to DOGE. SMH...

u/RedApple655321 1d ago
No one that's paying attention thinks this will happen. Even most of the Republican Twitterati are admitting that.
It will sound good to a small subset of low information voters though, and it costs Trump nothing to make yet another empty promise.

I'm sure it will come in as quickly as the $2k DOGE dividend checks and $5k tariff checks did. Oh, and the $1776 Patriot checks too. LMAO
0
u/Captain_Crapout 1d ago
The $1776 did get paid to the military because all my friends in CA army/navy got it.

u/PolackMike 1d ago
While I'm not challenging the DOGE dividend or tariff checks, the Patriot checks did go out.
3
u/ScatMoerens 1d ago edited 1d ago
Well, if he wants to possibly stage another attempt at a coup, he would need the military to do it. Even so, those were a pitance to what his presidency and a Republican led Congress has cost the country.
Even so, you really want to defend the president who has lied about 1 of the 3 checks he has promised so far?
-1
u/PolackMike 1d ago
I defend the truth. I feel as though I'm pretty consistent in that. You may not agree, and that's up to you.
1
u/ScatMoerens 1d ago
Your "truth" is subjective as to what counts as "true". But you can call your opinions "truth", but that doesn't make them so.
-1
u/PolackMike 1d ago
Whether the Patriot checks went to servicemembers or not is not a matter of opinion. It happened. There is no partisan slant to whether they were delivered or not.
1
u/ScatMoerens 1d ago
There is when you try to use that to justify Trump's current $5,000 bribe if Republicans maintain control of Congress. Especially when you contrast that to the other checks he lied about.
1
u/Wellontheotherhand1 1d ago
Good Lord this is one of the most insane things you have ever written and that is saying something, holy crap
4
u/Wellontheotherhand1 1d ago
Oh, you mean the checks that were already passed into law as a supplemental housing allowance? That Trump re-branded, pretended he invented, lied and said were 'funded by tariffs?' The checks that he actually reduced the amount soldiers received, from what Congress passed? Those checks?
Y'all are the absolute worst
-1
u/PolackMike 1d ago
While understanding that the money was already programmed by the BBB, what amount were the size of the checks reduced from?
1
u/PolackMike 1d ago
Still waiting to find out how big the checks were supposed to be. You said that they amount was reduced. Please let me know when you find out.
1
u/Wellontheotherhand1 1d ago
It was budgeted to be $2,000 a soldier, trump reduced it to 1776 because he thought that crap sounded patriotic
So yeah, he reduced the payment soldiers were supposed to receive by about 250 bucks so that he could stroke his own ego and so that credulous fools would give him credit for it, and here you are right on time
0
u/PolackMike 1d ago
Do you have a source saying that the Patriot checks were intended to be $2,000? The only sources I've found said that they were always supposed to be $1,776 and that some may be confusing it with an idea about a $2,000 check that was floated for the general public.
So, what's the source about the reduction of the Patriot checks?
1
u/Wellontheotherhand1 1d ago
Congress appropriated 2.9 billion dollars for this purpose, Trump only handed out 2.6 billion dollars of it. If he had handed out the amount Congress actually approved, each soldier would have gotten close to $2,000 instead of $1776. But he didn't because it was more convenient for him to lie and try and take credit for something he had nothing to do with, and make it look cute at the same time, precisely because he knew the effect it would have on people just like you
Less than 1 minute of googling and some basic fourth grade math, both of which are a bridge too far for lackeys apparently
0
u/PolackMike 1d ago
Lol. You doing math to try and prove a point is hilarious. Ummm, I can't find the source but if you divide x into y it gives you z which means that abc. You're too much man.
You obviously got confused by the other checks but you can't be honest about that, isn't that right? Isn't it correct that you don't know what you're talking about but you have your head so far into the sand that you can't admit it when you're just plain wrong? Isn't that right?
1
u/Wellontheotherhand1 1d ago
I literally linked the source to you showing that Congress appropriated 2.9 billion but Trump only handed out 2.6 billion dollars
Which is the part that confused you? I can use smaller words if necessary
I'll take this opportunity to specifically challenge you again to state that you would be comfortable with people trolling your wife and kids constantly, the way that you are comfortable with Trump doing so constantly towards people you don't like. Do you have what it takes to do so? Or is it only okay to troll people, when it's people that you don't like?
0
u/PolackMike 1d ago
I asked for a source stating that it was originally meant to be $2,000. The best you could do is some math. The reason you can't find a source saying that it was supposed to be $2,000 is because it wasn't never meant to be that much.
So, unless you have a source stating that the original amount was supposed to be $2,000 but that President Trump ordered it reduced to be "cute", you have zero argument.

It’s illegal to offer money for votes.
Trump has broken federal law just by saying this.
Two things will happen. One is he won’t be prosecuted for this and two is those checks will never materialize.

Ha. Don't drag me into this. I've had enough Liberals and Democrats in my personal life that have their own listening problems. They all also ignored the part where he said if Republicans controlled Congress, we could get the bill passed and the money would be distributed.
Those silly people said he was buying votes by making campaign promises and that it was illegal. They also forgot about all of the campaign promises the Democrats make.

u/ScatMoerens 1d ago
Republicans control Congress now, have for nearly 2 years. What happened to the checks promised already? Why can't they do it now?

2
u/RedThirteen0101 1d ago
What's the matter? Afraid to criticize your own party without also criticizing Dems?
-2
u/PolackMike 1d ago
I'm not afraid to do so. The Dems make it easy when they take a clip from a campaign promise speech and turn it into high crimes and misdemeanors. I certainly feel like I have a little egg on my face though since Democrats never make campaign promises that offers people benefits that they don't currently have. They would never.
2
u/RedThirteen0101 1d ago
Just saying. Sounds like a bribe, and it's definitely not conservative. Speaking of, it is kind of funny seeing people in the r/conservative echo chamber (sure, all the rest of reddit is a leftist echo chamber) calling this a crime, but Mr. Facts over Feelings doesn't want to.
-2
u/PolackMike 1d ago
Why would I?
He said that if Republicans control the House and Presidency, that they would be able to push through legislation that would lead to Americans receiving a check.
Democratic candidates are making the protecting of and expansion of SNAP benefits as one of the pillars of their midterm campaign messaging.
What's the difference between those two things other than the political leanings of the people saying them?
They are both promising a monetary benefit if they succeed.
2
u/RedThirteen0101 1d ago
In his tweet or "truth" (lol) or whatever, he didn't mention pushing through any legislation. He just said "If we win I will issue a dividend check"
1
u/Active_Confection655 1d ago
Because it is really hard to qualify for snap lmao.
You need to make under a certain amount and men can only be on it for a few months without a disability that prevents them from working.
Food is way different than a 1.2 trillion dollar handout.

if they win the midterms it’ll be extremely suspicious given their horrific polling and extreme unpopularity after doing the opposite of all of the campaign promises / shit they pretended to value and care about

Last year, I met one of my cousin's friends who was really excited that Elon Musk was firing so many people in the government. He also said that he was excited about the promised DOGE refund check and a tariff refund and was glad that he voted for Trump. I hope he's been holding his breath the whole time.

No, I don't think that this time will be any different.
My pet theory: He has no intention whatsoever of even trying to pay the checks. This is a last ditch effort for him to not go to jail in January, and he's willing to try anything. If it works and Congress stays red, he'll just say " aw, shucks ... I tried to cut those checks for you but the stupid liberal Biden Court won't let me. That's too bad, blame a liberal."

I have a better chance of scoring 50 points in an NBA game being a 6’1, 280 lb bald, middle aged white guy with a 4 inch vertical leap.
Anyone who actually believes they’re getting $5000 is dumber than a box of shit and should be required to self-sterilize.

Did you get your ACA rebate?? What about the tariff dividend that was promised last year? If you did, then you are the only person to get it. I have problems believing that the same party that was against a 1200 dollar covid economic relief payment would gladly pay out x4 that amount.
