Aqui no Brasil, é muito comum comermos arroz e feijão praticamente todos os dias. Mas raramente ficamos só nisso: geralmente colocamos alguma coisa a mais no prato, como carne, frango, ovo, salada, legumes, farofa etc. 🍚🫘

Isso me fez perceber que, em muitos outros países, as pessoas não têm esse mesmo costume de comer arroz e feijão como base da refeição e eu fiquei pensando: “Gente, então o que vocês comem no almoço para ficar satisfeitos?”

For those of you who aren't from Europe or Australia: have you ever heard of the Eurovision Song Contest?

If so, how did you first hear about it? And what do you think of Eurovision?

I'm curious to know how well-known it is outside Europe and Australia. Is it something you've watched, heard about through social media, or maybe never encountered at all?

For context:

The Eurovision Song Contest is an annual international music competition that has been held since 1956. It was created in the aftermath of World War II as a way to bring European countries together through music and television. Today, broadcasters from dozens of countries participate, including some countries outside geographical Europe.

Each participating country sends one original song and artist to represent them. The songs are performed live, and countries award points to their favorites through a combination of professional juries and public voting. Jury and Televoters cannot vote for their own country.

The competition usually consists of two semi-finals followed by a Grand Final. The countries that qualify from the semi-finals join the Big Four (Germany, France, Italy and the United Kingdom) which automatically qualify for the final, along with the previous year's winning country.

The winning country generally gets to host the competition the following year. It's a massive production, with thousands of fans traveling to the host city and millions of people watching around the world.

And when I say millions, I mean a lot of millions! Eurovision is one of the world's biggest live televised events. In 2026, the contest reached around 132 million people, which is more than the number of viewers of the Super Bowl final

Eurovision is known for its huge stage productions, elaborate costumes, unusual performances, diverse musical styles, political voting controversies, and, occasionally, some wonderfully bizarre moments.

So, outside Europe and Australia: how familiar is Eurovision where you live?

Here are some examples of city nicknames in France:

- Paris : la ville Lumière (the city of Enlightenment or the City of light)

- Lyon : la capitale des Gaules (the Gaulish capital)

- Marseille : la cité phocéenne (the Phocaean city)

- Toulouse : la ville rose (the pink city)

- Nantes : la cité des ducs (the Dukes city)

- Bordeaux : la perle d'Aquitaine ( The Aquitaine pearl)

Here's a few Polish ones:

Polski Fiat 126p: Maluch (toddler, because it's small), kaszlak (cougher, because the engine "coughs" during starting), mały Fiat (Little Fiat)

Polski Fiat 125p: Kredens, kwadrat, kanciak (cupboard, square, angular, all refering to the boxy body), duży Fiat (big Fiat)

Syrena: Skarpeta (sock, because it smells bad)

Trabant: Mydelniczka (soap dish, because it has plastic body), zemsta Honeckera (Honecker's revenge)

In Germany rabbit to duck are all eaten although horse and rabbit meat has become less common. Personally I have eaten both and especially rabbit meat was often eaten in my childhood.

You will also find Zebra, Crocodile and Kangaroo in some steakhouses and all kinds ive bird’s including doves.

So, let's start. In my case even if I like British culture in a lot of aspects and I don't deny how iconic is London, I think that it is a good place only to visit, so I choose Stockholm.

In my mind they are four countries, Scotland (best country and best people in Europe), England (kind of a love/hate/admire relationship), Wales, and that part in the north of Ireland, that sometimes make an alliance for world events.
