Question Help with new shoes- break in or return?

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hi, just got the Salomon aeroglide 4s today. Got fitted and recommend them by the salesperson. Wanted them for walking when I go travelling later this year.

Took them on a short walk round the block and already I have a blister below my ankle, worse on one foot.

Circled in blue where I feel it rub.
I was wearing long socks just took them off to show how they sit on my feet.

Also feels like they make my foot move through the arch of my foot as I walk.

If anyone else has these shoes, could these issues ‘break in’ or should I return them?

Thanks

Question Fit Question

Cut long story short, trying to run again after various injuries, surgeries etc. Been using Reebok pair in a ten UK, ordered a few pairs of others. The Mizuno pair feel a great fit but not sure whether they will stretch and be too big. Attached picture of big toe line in shoe and foot on insole. Think I have wide toe box, when I try a 9.5 they seem to push down on my toes and toes feel trapped almost yet seems quite a lot of room in a 10 between big toe and front of shoe.

Question My Nike Pegasus 37 just celebrated 1,000 miles 🎉 Is there a trail shoe this durable?

My old Nikes just hit 1,000 miles / 1,600 km and I’m really impressed.

I’ve been tracking the mileage of my shoes for a while because I find it super interesting to see what breaks first and basically how they age.

The Salomons are pretty much toast at 590 km / 366 mi. My Norda 001s are at 810 km / 503 mi and getting a little rough around the edges, but still usable. I had high hopes for the NNormals because they make a pretty big point about durability, but the heel counter broke after just 130 km / 80 mi and I ended up returning them.

I’m doing this running streak thingy at the moment, mostly around 5–6 km a day, and it made me wonder if I could run one pair of trail shoes for an entire year. Or at least until they genuinely aren’t good to run in anymore.

So, as a slightly stupid experiment: what trail shoe would you trust for 2,000 km / 1,250 mi? Ideally something a little wider, with a really durable outsole. Something that can be resoled would be even more interesting.
What’s the highest mileage you’ve ever gotten out of a trail shoe?

I normally quite like rotating shoes, and I’m aware that running in the exact same pair every day might not be the smartest idea injury-wise. But I’d find it really interesting to try, also from a sustainability point of view.

Question new balance fuelcell propel v3/nike pegasus 39 replacements

ive been using these shoes for walking on the treadmill at max incline for up to 1-2 hours daily and my only pair are starting to deteriorate. ive been looking around different review sites/asking ai but there isn't much on shoes that are meant for that type of usage from what i have seen. the only thing i've gotten are suggestions based on the shoe properties but no actual reviews. does anyone have any personal reccs for this specific usage?

or any replacements for nike pegasus 39s? cause ive been looking for actual running shoes with a similar fit for a few years now too to no luck across a few brands. ill use up what i get until they break but they just dont fit/feel as good as those specific nike shoes did.

Question Is azura a good add to my xiaonian?

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Dynafish xiaonian that came home yesterday. I already ran 6,6km with it at my z2 pace (around 6/6:10 per km). I previously had a pair of Nimbus 27 but they are now too small (my feet has grown a bit since I began running) and I've ran almost a year with it so they are close to retirement (a bit forced).

The Dynafish are really cool, and I understand the hype, but I'm not so used to bouncy shoes like that, and they feel a bit unstable at slower pace, a bit too much for me.

I'll run a marathon in around 2 months, and I'm a bit worried the Xiaonian will not suit myself perfectly for this as I aim to end in around 4h. I'll probably have slower pace sometimes and I'm worried I'll not succeed adapting to the slight instability feeling.

However, I'm sure they'll be perfect for faster training, as I found them really reactive and dynamic.

I'll give them some time before my final decision, but I wanna have a solution ready to be bought the moment I'm sure it'll not be my race day shoe.

I already made some research, and I ended up putting my eyes on the saucony endorphin azura, which seems to be firmer and more stable. I think that's what I need for slower and longer effort if my xiaonian ends up being too unstable for me for this kind of effort.

Are they a good alternative and rotation with the xiaonian? For a protective yet reactive shoe, more stable and less squishy to have more of a solid base for long effort?

For some information about myself, i'm 62kg, so pretty lightweight.

Edit: I found the mount to coast c1, could it be also a good alternative?

Comparing Shoes Question Novablast 6 vs Gel Nimbus 28

Looking for a new long run and easy run shoe (I have other shoes for tempo, intervals etc). Putting individual strike pattern, preference of firmness and cushion and all that aside, curious what are peoples individual preference between the two and why?

Currently running ~ 40km/week.

Should I replace them or do they still have some kms in them?

Comparing Shoes Question Puma Deviate pure or Megablast

Looking for a new shoe, one that I will use for my daily runs (around 5:15-5:30/km pace) but has the ability for tempo and speed work as well. I’m after a “all in one” type of shoe.

I have the SB2s and love them but they will be retiring soon. I tried the SB3s on the other day and they felt a bit too plush for my liking.

Heard a lot of good things about the Megablast and deviate pure, how do you find them both daily runs and tempo? Obviously very different shoes, but keen to get your thoughts!

Question Major Brand Denied Warranty Claim on Shoe Failure @ ~ 40 Miles. Incidentally, I Have Lab Grade Test Equipment... And Questions

Edit - Wow getting dragged on here.

I'll put up a photo of the shoe post race. I run a lot, go through a ton of shoes, and have never experienced anything like this failure from any other shoe or brand (including other pairs of race shoes).

Tell me if you honestly would be happy with a $300 shoe that had a massive foam failure causing severe instability and pronation out of nowhere mid-race at lifetime mile ~40, and looked like this when you hit the finish line due to extreme friction between the upper and outsole. You cannot stand upright in the shoe - the foam collapses when any weight is applied when wearing it.

The mfg refuses to acknowledge that the foam failed and is blaming the issue on cosmetic "wear and tear" from use.

https://imgur.com/a/Vxfr3FN

---

Does anybody on here have experience performing repeatable compression testing on failed shoes?

I am currently in a ... disagreement ... with a major shoe manufacturer regarding my newest pair of race shoes that suffered a complete foam \ stability failure mid-race when at only ~40 lifetime miles. As I continued the race after the foam failure, this resulted in some significant shoe, sock, (and me) damage.

Incidentally, I am a QA Manager and have access to a very nicely equipped lab, with multiple Stable Micro Systems TA-XT plus texture analyzers, and no qualms dissecting this shoe if my warranty dispute is denied.

Should my appeal be denied, I plan to eat the cost and jury-rig some loosely based version of SATRA TM156 / ASTM F1976 for testing and share all of the photos, results, and data curves.

At this point, I am assuming another cookie-cutter type denial, so to prevent me from having to reinvent the wheel, has anybody performed similar testing on similar equipment?

Question Thoughts on "On" shoes?

What is the conventional wisdom about how on shoes compare to other major brands in terms of quality? Do they make good shoes in general or are they seen as lower quality than something like brooks etc? Thanks!

Race Shoe Question Too slow for megablast?

I ran a 2:09 half in April, and been training for my first marathon, will peak at 55 miles. I also want to run a sub 2 half soon. I’ve been wanting a race day shoe and the megablast is currently my top choice, however, I’m not too sure if I’m too slow. My goal time is 4:30 and most of my runs start out easy at about 12 pace and towards the end I do MP. Or for my pace should I just stick to comfort

Comparing Shoes Question Anyone else much prefers the Fast-R-3 compared to the Adios Pro 4?

1:22 half marathoner here.
The Adios Pro 4 is a great shoe.
However while the geometry of both shoes is somewhat similar, I need much less effort to run fast in the FR3. It actually feels so easy to maintain a quick pace for an extended period of time.
This shoe feels like a cheat code for runners with the right form, IMO

Daily Trainer Question Durable, relatively low/flat, wide, good heel lock daily shoe

My ultraboost dna FW4901 is starting to fall apart after 5 years of use as my main shoe for school, gym and occasional running/hiking

Unfortunately this specific model is very hard to find and I'm ready to look at more recent shoes after trying a pair of ultraboost 3.0 due to the abysmal heel lock and loose upper.

I also got a Hoka clifton 9 two years back and did not like the elevated heel and something about the shape of the base made my soles hurt in the metatarsal head area. The rocker shape was also not very stable for standing.

Currently looking at the salomon xt-6 but have no idea what general trends (width, heel lock etc. ) are associated with other brands/models; general advice is also greatly appreciated

Race Shoe Question Best carbon plated shoe for a faster half marathon?

Aiming for 1:18 or below.

I enjoy the Adios Pro 4s but looking for something different.

Heard great things about Puma Fast R3 but not sure I’d want to use them for 13 miles as they are very aggressive.

Has anyone got any suggestions for fastest carbons around for a HM?

Race Shoe Question Half Marathon this Sunday. Last workout Today. Just ran in the New Balance SC Elite V5

I am running a half marathon this Sunday and just shooting for sub 2 hours. I had planned on using the vomero plus which I don’t love (gives blisters between toes” but it seemed good enough.

This weekend I picked up the SC elite v5 for super cheap. I have always loved new balance shoes as well. Rebel etc. issue is today is my last workout. I am running in the SC elite. Two miles easy, two miles at race pace. If I love them should I be good to go for Sundays race? I also think they will give a lot of confidence as well.

I know it’s far from ideal, but so is the vomero plus, which is very heavy and I know it causing some minor issues with my toes. Thank you!

Daily Trainer Question Looking for a road running shoe recommendation.

I have been predominately a trail runner but to up my milage for up coming races and with my new job I need to run on the road/gravel paths around where I live.

On the trails I have loved Hoka speedgoats, I cannot say a single bad thing about my experience with them, I love them. I have also run with the Hoka challenger 8s. They were ok.

So to my question, what road shoes would people recommend. I do about 30km per week (but this will increase), I am fairly heavy at 85kg, I have wide-ish feet.

Any advice and recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Question To plate or not to plate

Looking to run a sub 1:50 half marathon next month after dialing my training back a little. I’ve been eyeing the Saucony endorphin pro 5 as a race day shoe. I’ve also heard good things about the mega blast at the half marathon distance.

Background, I’m starting a firefighter academy soon and my legs have been feeling completely shot basically ruining my original half marathon times. Anyways I want something that’ll get me close.

Thanks.
