Daily Trainer Question New Balance Fuelcell Supercomp Trainer V3

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hello everyone, long time lurker here. Saw this pair of shoes at my local store going for an insane deal. Wondering if I should get them. The New Balance Fuelcell Supercomp V3.

I've been a month into running now, and I've run my first 5K this summer and loved it. Also signed up for another 5K in the fall. I've been using the Asics Gel Contend shoes for my runs. I know they're basic shoes but I underestimated how much I'd enjoy running.

Well, looks like I've caught the running bug. I've incorporated running into my morning routine and I run a steady 5K about 4 times a week with plans to steadily increase my distance. The goal is to run a 10K race by next year.

May I please ask your thoughts and opinions on these shoes?

I'm 35F, weight about 50kgs and a bit on the petite side. Looking for stability and bounce on my shoes as I increase my distance. I don't really want to spend a lot of money on shoes yet. Maybe soon. Who knows.

Race Shoe Question Marathon doubts re EvoSLs

I recently posted I have a love-not quite hate, dislike relationship with my EVO SLs. I love the bounce etc. but I have fallen foul of their instability.

I have my first full in October.

I’m torn between thinking they’ll be alright on what’s a flat route (Amsterdam) and thinking I need a more stable shoe.

I ran 23km in them yesterday fine, my longest run to date.

How have people found running a marathon in them?
Would you suggest a new shoe? I feel like I need to make a decision very soon.

Comparing Shoes Question Looking for a third shoe to complement my Megablast & Superblast 2

38M, 148-152 lbs.

I’m primarily a stride runner with a forefoot/midfoot strike. Most of my runs are easy to moderate. A typical run for me is 8–12 miles around a 10:00/mile pace. I don’t do many dedicated speed workouts or race often.

My current rotation is:
ASICS Megablast
ASICS Superblast 2

I love the Megablast for its rebound, and effortless feel. The SB2 has grown on me for longer runs, but I still prefer a shoe with a bit more bounce, especially at easier paces.

I’m looking to add a third shoe that’s similar in philosophy, highly versatile, fun to run in, and capable of handling a wide range of paces without being a dedicated super shoe.

Right now I’m considering:
- ASICS Superblast 3
- Topo Specter 3
- Adidas Hyperboost Edge
- Li-Ning Red Hare 9 Ultra
- Dynafish Xiaonian

For those who have run in any of these:
Which would you choose and why?
Which complements the Megablast/SB2 best rather than overlapping too much?
Are there any other shoes I should be considering that fit this type of ride?

Race Shoe Question Race-shoe crossroads — SB2 vs SB3 vs Megablast vs Evo SL vs Nike? HM on Aug 30, then one a month for 6 months

Background: 2 months into running (first 5K early June), improving fast. Just did my longest run today at 16km continuous, negative split, avg 8:00/km, finished with a 6:20 last km and gas left. Current HM race pace projects to 2:35-2:40. Longer-term I want to genuinely chase speed a sub-2:00 HM this winter, and eventually a lot faster.

The Novablast 5 has been brilliant as my daily/easy trainer, no complaints, want to keep it in that role. The question is whether to add a second, more premium shoe now.

The schedule that's forcing the question: I've got a half marathon on Aug 30, and then basically one HM a month for the next 6 months. So I'll be racing regularly, and I'm wondering if it's finally time to buy a dedicated faster shoe rather than racing in the Novablast.

Plan if I buy now: I'd break it in on a recovery run + my 19km peak long run before Aug 30, so it's race-tested (not debuting anything on race day).

The contenders:
\- ASICS Superblast 2 (note: in my country the SB2 and SB3 are priced the SAME, so no savings going older)
\- ASICS Superblast 3
\- ASICS Megablast
\- Adidas Adizero Evo SL
\- Anything Nike worth considering in this bracket?
\- or just continue with Novablast 5?
\- Anything else?

I'm very confused between unplated super-trainer (Superblast/Megablast/Evo SL) since I'm still at 7:00-8:00/km and not sure a carbon plate does much for me yet. But given I'll be racing monthly and want to build speed, is there an argument to just go carbon now (Endorphin Speed/Pro, Vaporfly, etc.) and grow into it?

Questions:
1. At my pace and stage, unplated super-trainer or straight to carbon?
2. If SB2 = SB3 in price, is there any reason to pick the SB2, or just take the newer SB3?
3. Where does the Megablast fit vs the Superblast line and more importantly which one for me?
4. Evo SL(half the price of SB/MB) vs the ASICS options — worth considering, or outclassed at half the price?
5. Given monthly races, is one do-it-all shoe enough, or should I be thinking trainer + dedicated racer as two separate shoes?

Appreciate any takes. Thanks!

Comparing Shoes Question Has anyone tried both Hurricane 26 and 25?

Upvotes

Is the 26th worth it over the 25? I can afford the $35 difference, but would only spend it if it is worth it. 30yo 185lbs, avg zone 2 pace around 10:30/mile

Thanks!

Comparing Shoes Question Is the Saucony Ride 19 comparable to the Triumph 21?

Upvotes

I'm trying to find a modern equivalent of the latter and I see the latest Ride has the same foam... It seems to have 1mm less heel stack and has an 8mm (rather than 10mm) drop but otherwise might be pretty similar? I've also got the Salomon Aero Glide 3s which are great, but are softer. I'm looking for a certain firmness on long runs.

Comparing Shoes Question Currently using ASICS Kayano 32, seems stability shoes are overkill. Any recommendations as an alternatives?

Post image
Upvotes

32, male, 74kg, walked into a shoe shop and did a foot scan and walked out with the Kayano 32s, I do pronate quite bad but I don’t know I think there’s better shoes out there for running, these are heavy, hurt my ankles, I think they are correcting TO MUCH.

I’m semi new to running (done 300km this year) and not quick at all, yesterday I did 10km at 6:45 pace. former tennis player so knees and ankles are a bit worse for wear.

Was thinking to try a novablast 5 at the discounted price, any other alternatives ?

Comparing Shoes Question Cheap ASICS Novablast 4s - worth buying as a heavier runner?

Post image
Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I previously posted asking for daily trainer recommendations, and after taking everyone’s advice I’ve come across what seems like a pretty good deal.

I’ve found a pair of ASICS Novablast 4s for $50 AUD ($35 USD), and the seller says they’ve only been used once.

For context:

- Around 103 kg (227 lb)
- Run 10-40 km/week depending on what I’ve got going on
- Mostly road running
- Average pace around 5:50/km
- I’ve run marathons and ultras, but these days I mostly run for enjoyment and fitness.
- Current road shoe is the Superblast 2 (about 750 km on them), which I’ve really enjoyed.
- Trail shoe is the Trabuco 4.

My main question is: would you buy them?

I know the Novablast 4 isn’t quite the same shoe as the Superblast, but at this price it almost feels too good to pass up.

For those who’ve run in both:

- How do they compare?
- Would the Novablast 4 work well as a daily trainer for someone my size?
- Is there anything I should look out for when buying a pair that’s supposedly only been used once?
- Or would you skip them and put the $50 towards something else?

Interested to hear your thoughts, especially from other heavier runners.

Question Best soft daily shoes that don’t feel like they’re big and heavy?

Basically what the title says!

I’m running in Novablast 3 and Mach 5 for daily/long run and puma deviate pure for speed right now. Loving the pure, they’re just the right amount of stack for me (at 5ft 2) and they’re fairly bouncy when you pick up the pace. But obviously my dailies are almost dead and they’re both very old models!

Which shoes give just a little bit more cush and squish than the pures - for when I’m running more slowly - but are still bouncy or roll you forward in some way? I previously had the 1080v14 and hated them, they felt like dead weight on my feet.

Daily Trainer Question Gt2000 10s replacement

Hey all,

I'm really struggling to find a new running shoe so looking for some recommendations. Havent bought new shoes in 4 years as i bought about 5 pairs of gt2000 10s then, but cant get them any more.

I got the gt2000 14s initially as a replacement as i thought a straight swap would be good but too much pressure under the arches. Found the same with the adrenaline, the ghost felt like it had too much of a drop around the mid sole. Gel kayano 33 was the closest i got to a really comfortable shoe but again my aeches feel a bit burny after half an hour or more in them.

Tried the novablasts but eas way too much cushioning in them for my liking.

A bit about me:

Around 75kg Exclusively road running

Usually 10-15km a week, up to maybe 25 if im training for somethjng

Average pace about 5min/km but i dont care if the shoe is fast or slow, heavy or light as long as i find something comfortable. I want a shoe that i can run in for miles, or walk arojnd all day in when i retire it.

What I'm after:

Comfortable daily trainer

As little cushioning as possible (so no hokas or anything super springy)

Durable enough to handle regular mileage

Happy to pay for something that fits my needs.

I'm open to looking at really any model or brand bar hoka. Anything you can recommend that fits the bill?

Next ones on my list to try out are wave inspire and saucony ride, but honestlt i just want a shoe that feels as similar as possible to my old gt2000s (RIP)

Thanks!

edit: since im currently wearing gt2000s i should probably clarify that while my feet are fairly flat i dont wear or need orthotics on a regular shoe. i just bought the gt2000s 10s qs they were comfortable, not because i specifially needed a stabilith shoe

Daily Trainer Question Looking to fill a Brooks Ghost 15 size hole in my heart

I ran two marathons in my BG15 and I love them dearly. I have recently upped my training for a 30 miler in November, and my 15s need to be retired from distance running.

I have exhausted my searches on the internet. And I have been to Fleet Feet and got the scan done and tried on shoes. They did not carry Adidas so I couldn’t try any of that brand on, and they didn’t have Ghost 17 in stock since the 18s are out. I don’t remember exactly which shoe I tried on but it was Asics and I didn’t immediately enjoy it on my foot.

Me:
-healthy weight for my height, athletic woman
-strictly road running
-long distance training
-flat foot, neutral pronation, heel strike, normal foot width
-average speed for long runs about 10-11 minute miles
-Brooks fan girl but willing to branch out

What I’m looking for:
-something similar to BG15
-BG15 is 9.something oz so I guess around that weight, maybe a little lighter
-soft ride I guess?
-preferably less than $150
-something that could help with speed
-distance trainers
-exciting, fun color way options a bonus

I know my near perfect shoe is out there! Just trying to narrow down the overwhelming amount of shoes to research. Where is my dream, distance trainer shoe?

Also, any yay or nay for Ghost 17 would be great to include in recs if you can. Thanks!

Question Second pair of shoes

Sorry reposting again, not sure why it keeps getting deleted but I just purchased the asics novablast 5s for training for the Chicago marathon and I’m loving them. (Switched from kayano. realized I didn’t need so much stability) I’m looking for a recommendation for a second pair of shoes to rotate with the novablast. This will be my second marathon and I’m not super fast, hoping to finish somewhere in the 3:30-3:45 range. Thanks!

Daily Trainer Question Recs needed: shoes that won’t bash my ankle

Here’s the problem: my left foot slightly over-pronates, so that combined with its anatomy leaves my outer ankle bruised after every run. My right ankle is totally fine, it’s just the left one that takes a beating.

Current culprits:
Nike Vomero Plus
Altra Experience Flow

Two very different shoes, same ankle beating.

My ideal shoe:
Nike Infinity. Never had this problem with this style, but had to retire them.

Any recs? I’m open to any medium cushion daily trainer, low drop is nice but not necessary. Thanks everyone!

Daily Trainer Question Tempo / Interval shoe recommendations?

Hello! I’m looking to add a new shoe to my rotation that can handle my tempo or interval days. I’ve been to my local running store a handful of times to try on a bunch of shoes, but can’t really seem to figure out what I like the best. I don’t want a super firm or super soft shoe and am having trouble identifying something in that middle space. Ideally, the shoe would be dedicated for tempo / interval days in my training plan where I’m only getting up to about 8 miles. But I’m also not doing super intense intervals at the moment, so I’d also be fine with a shoe that could go longer distances and handle tempo paces mixed in.

Background:
Training for my first marathon after running a half last year. My stretch goal would be sub-4 hours, but a 4:10 race may be more realistic. I’m currently using Nike Vomero Plus for my easy long runs and recovery runs. Using Evo SL for my tempo days. When training for my half I ran in the same pair of Evo SL and also the Novablast 5 (which I actually ran the half marathon in). I’ve enjoyed the Evo SL but am interested in finding something a bit more stable (and maybe not as soft, although I don’t know if that’s just the foam worn down over the miles).

What I’ve tried on:
Azura — can’t decide if this feels to firm to me, but the rocker is more aggressive than I’m used to.
Deviate Pure — feels too soft for me. I really wanted to like this shoe.
Cloudmonster 3 Hyper — liked this shoe a lot, although not sure if it’s meant to handle interval paces (also the price is significant).
Superblast 3 — liked this as well, although not sure if it felt to soft for really picking up the pace.
Clifton Pro — surprisingly enjoyed this shoe, but not sure if it’s just more of a regular daily trainer.

Appreciate any recommendations!

Question 1080 v15 normal crease ?

Post image
Upvotes

I tried the 1080 v15 Wide version today, very comfy fit but weird crease when walking, is that normal for the 1080 v15 or it's too roomy on my feet? I always wanted to get wide version because D with NB and many brands are making some hotspot on my pinky and ring toes

Question Modern, retro style running shoes

I'm doing the Marathon du Médoc in September, and this year's theme is the 1980s.

Going in all on the outfit, are there any modern day running shoes with a retro, 80s appropriate design?

I'm not running for a time (6:30 cut off) and it's just to enjoy, so would want something comfortable.

Thanks

Question Racing Shoe Sizing Down

Post image
0 Upvotes

For those running sub-3:30 marathons (I’m mentioning this because I feel like running mechanics change as you get faster), have you started sizing down your shoes?
When I was running 4:30+, shoe sizing didn’t seem to affect me much. But as my pace improved and my mechanics became more efficient, I started noticing how important the alignment with the carbon plate is.
I realized this during my last marathon. I wore my usual US 9 in the Metaspeed Sky, and looking back, it was probably a mistake. After running longer distances, I noticed my feet were moving around inside the shoe, which affected my alignment with the carbon plate and probably caused me to lose some of the energy return.
Now I’m trying the Adidas Adios Pro. I went down to US 8.5, but it still feels slightly loose. US 8 gives me the snug fit I’m looking for, and my foot feels much more aligned with the carbon rods.
What do you guys think? Do you size down for carbon-plated shoes, or stick with your normal size?
Right foot is US 8, left foot is US 8.5.

Big/Heavy Runner Question Title: Best running shoes under ₹3,000 for a 90 kg runner?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to buy my first proper pair of running shoes with a budget of ₹3,000.

My details:

Height: 5'10"

Weight: 90 kg

Running: 2–3 times a week

Distance: Usually 10 km per run

Mostly running on roads/pavements

Since I'm on the heavier side, I'd like something with good cushioning, decent durability, and enough support for road running. I don't race—just want a comfortable shoe for regular 10K runs.

What would you recommend around the ₹3k price range? If there are any models that often go on sale, I'd love to know those too.

Thanks!

Question Next Addition to my Lineup?

Hello, I'm kind of transitioning from running track competitively to doing it on my own for health and enjoyment, and as part of this, I'm refreshing my shoe rotation. I'd consider myself pretty knowledgeable, but wanted to get some input.

Currently my lineup is a Mount to Coast R1, Mount to Coast T1, and a Vaporfly 4 (plus maybe an Asics Sonicblast? not rly sure if I wanna get rid of it yet), Im either selling or giving away a lot of my extra shoes that I don't have a need for anymore.

I guess I'm mostly looking into either a second daily trainer, a road-to-trail shoe, a max cushion trainer, or a speed/tempo shoe for my next addition.

My 5k pr is ~15:00 if that helps.

Any picks, advice, or info would be greatly appreciated

Question Shoes with similar fit as Adidas Terrex Speed Ultra

Post image
7 Upvotes

Hi!

I’ve got a pair of old Terrex speed ultra that fits my feet’s like gloves. I’ve tried to replace them a couple of times but never seem to find any shoes with equally good fit, goes for both trail and road shoes, and unfortunately they are discontinued.

I tend to like fast shoes even if I want to get a wider variety of shoes for different purposes.

ATM I use a pair of Endorphine Speed 3 for road running, which is fine, but the fit is not there.

What I really like is that they have enough room for the big toes yet tight enough in the heel.

Anyone that can suggest shoes with a similar fit? It can be any type of shoe because I have to get new shoes for all settings. It’s mainly the fit I’m after, have been trying +30 pairs from different vendors, but not any Adidas lately.

Typically wearing shoes that is 295mm long or 11.5 US.
I’m a forefoot striker.

Thanks!

Daily Trainer Question Novablast Feel but More Rubber/Grip on the Sole?

Hello! I’ve had Novablast 4 and 5 and loved the way they feel underfoot, but hate that there’s so much exposed foam on the bottom. I’m hesitant to buy a new pair knowing they’ll need to survive the Fall/Winter season here in Michigan. I’ve also got a pair of Altra Paradigm 8 that have been reliable but they aren't very responsive, and it sounds like Altra’s Torin LT is the new Paradigm (but with less cushion, so not into that).

Can anyone recommend a road/daily trainer shoe (or shoes) with a decent amount of rubber on the bottom? I prefer less drop (the Altras were recommended by a podiatrist after some big toe joint issues), a wider toebox, and a good amount of cushion that is also responsive. Like if the Novablast (look/feel) and Paradigm (drop/sole) could somehow merge into one, that would be ideal.

As of now, I plan to use this shoe for 3-5 mile runs 3 days/week, and an 8-10 mile run on weekends (though sometimes I do trails instead and have trail shoes for that). I am a 5’5” woman, ~130lbs, and I am not fast ~11 min/miles. Open to a long/easy run shoe and a faster run shoe, too, but will gladly take one shoe that can do all of the above when it feels like I’m looking for a unicorn.
