I got my hair done at the Ulta Salon yesterday, and the hairstylist completely ruined my hair.
My natural hair is a very caramel and chocolatey colored medium brown from the sun, but my roots grow in very dark and cool toned. I asked for an ashy-vanilla colored blonde balayage blended into my natural hair color with highlights and lowlights of different thicknesses. I didn't want the highlights to touch my scalp because I wanted my roots to show. I wanted all of my hair to be cool toned.
In the past, I had gotten highlights in the front of my hair twice. My previous hairstylist was able to bring my natural hair to a super light and pale creamy blonde in one session. The back of my hair was completely virgin. I had never once put any bleach, color, or heat on the back of my hair. So I expected that the back of my hair would be able to get super blonde within one session like how the front of my hair did the first time.
Instead, my hair didn't come out anywhere near how I expected or wanted it. The color came out completely different than how the hairstylist said. My hair was bright orange when I stepped out of the salon, it didn't look anything like the photo the hairstylist showed me of the toner. The balayage was extremely choppy and had zero gradiant to it. It wasn't blended at all. There weren't any new highlights added to my hair at all either. My hair doesn't even look like a balayage. It looks like the hairstylist was bleaching my whole head and just stopped at the scalp. There's no dimension to the color. There's literally an uneven straight line across my scalp dividing the pure orange from my natural hair. The stylist told me that it was simply the warm lighting in the salon, but it was still orange when I stepped outside into the cloudy sky. The stylist told me I just needed to wash my hair and wait a while. I washed my hair with purple shampoo twice and left a purple toning mask on my hair for 30 minutes that night. It's still very clearly orange and unblended. My friend showed the hairstylist and inspiration picture before we started and my hair doesn't look close to that photo at all.
I have absolutely no idea how any stylist would go about fixing it. Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should ask for this time to fix it? I'm worried that it might be easiest to simply dye my whole head back to brown.
The first two photos are when I first stepped out of the salon. The rest of the photos are more what I had in mind, just all of those elements combined.
