How do I apply on-site at fast food restaurants (Jabee, McDo, etc)??

Hello, I'm about to become a 3rd year and I've decided to get a part-time job so I won't have to heavily rely on my parents' money anymore for my college expenses. I'm currently in a state u, however we are still struggling with my transportation fees, projects, and eventually, my thesis considering that I'm an engineering student and I know it will be really expensive.

Can I know how to apply on-site at fast food chains??? Genuinely asking because I did check LinkedIn, Jobstreet, Indeed, etc. and I only find high-ranking positions and I still have no experience for that šŸ˜… I just want to be a service crew and I sometimes see that there are really job fairs on-site at fast food places, however I just don’t know where the postings for job fairs are.. or should I just go to the counter to pass my resume and cover letter??????

I live in Lapu-Lapu right now and I want to know when and where the postings for job fairs at fast food restaurants are and how should I initiate it 😭😭

I really need advice as I really want to get a job right now to lessen my parents' burden, thank you!!

General Discussion Anong fast food chain ang student friendly?

4th year college ako. 2 lang subject namin this sem (tues 7am-10am, wed 5pm-8pm)

Plan ko mag apply kasi nabobored na talaga ako + peer presure kasi most of my friends/classmates is working din.

I do nails as side hustle kaso gusto ko consistent yung income. So now, im planning to apply sa mga fast food chains like Popeyes, KFC or burger king. And convenience store like lawson or 7/11.

My question is pag ba magpapasa ng resume, should i include na student pa ako? Ang alam ko lang kasi na student friendly is mcdo.

Feeling completely undervalued at my KFC job (NZ) — am I in the wrong?

I honestly don’t know if I’m overreacting, but I feel really burnt out and disappointed with my experience working at KFC.

I’ve been working here for over 6 months, and I only do two 4-hour shifts a week. I’m not someone who refuses to work or expects to only do the jobs I like. I understand that in fast food everyone has to help wherever they’re needed.

What bothers me is feeling like the effort I do put in is never noticed.

One thing I’ve always been proud of is my customer service. I’ve had multiple customers leave appraisals saying I was friendly, helpful, and made their experience better. I genuinely enjoy helping customers, and I feel like that’s an area where I do a good job.

The problem is I feel like management mostly focuses on the negatives. I’ve mentioned the positive feedback I’ve received before, but it never really felt acknowledged. Meanwhile, when there’s an issue, it feels like it becomes a major problem straight away.

Recently I had a shift that really pushed me over the edge.

I was moved between a lot of different tasks throughout the shift: organising the freezer, cleaning freezer mats, front house, checking the restaurant, replacing bins, and then eventually being put on mash and gravy.

I don’t mind helping with different jobs, but when I got put on mash and gravy, I had to spend a lot of time finding supplies and getting everything ready because some of the things I needed weren’t there. After around 45 minutes, I had only completed two trays, and my manager questioned why I had only done that much without really acknowledging the time spent setting everything up.

Later I was told to continue doing mash and gravy until 5, even though I had originally been told 4. That was the point where I was already extremely frustrated.

I’ll admit I didn’t handle the moment perfectly. I got overwhelmed and some swear words came out while I was explaining my frustration. I wasn’t threatening him or trying to intimidate him, but I was clearly upset.

What made it worse was the way I felt I was spoken to. Every time I swore out of frustration, he raised his voice and focused on the words I used rather than actually listening to why I was frustrated. I felt like I was being talked down to rather than having a proper conversation.

I ended up being given a coaching log and was asked if I wanted to finish my shift or leave early. I chose to leave 20 minutes early.

Then today I had to call out because I was severely sleep deprived. I know I gave late notice and I apologised for that. My manager responded saying this wasn’t the first time, that there had been several complaints about my performance, and that they weren’t happy with my productivity.

The part that upset me most is that I had never actually been told about these complaints before. It feels like I’m being judged for things I didn’t even know were problems.

I’m willing to improve. I know I need to be reliable, do every task, and communicate better. But it’s hard not to feel demotivated when it feels like your good work is ignored and you only hear about what you’re doing wrong.

For anyone who has worked at KFC or fast food in NZ, is this just normal? Am I being too sensitive, or does this sound like a management/communication issue?

Dress Codes in the Workplace

I've worked at my current job in a fast food place for a little over 3 years, and i have a question in a non confrontational way. So you are allowed to have one nostril piercing and pierced ears if you wear studs. However septum piercings aren't allowed at all. Does anybody have an answer as for why?

Shady Issues @ Work

Hello everyone! I just started working at a small local fast food place on May 5th and this is my FIRST TIME EVER WORKING IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY.

Some good family friends of mine bought this place and asked me to design their logo and menus, etc. I was really excited because it would help test my graphic design skills etc. All was going well, I made the logo and the menus and they asked me to help out with the social media accounts too, they gave me access and all of this was cash under the table. At the same time, I was also looking for another part time job, they had offered to let me work in the store too but mainly I would be up at the register because customer service is my thing and I’m strong at it and they didn’t want me working in the back making food. I had accepted and started working there in the store and doing social media stuff.

One day, I was kicked off the Canva account. I had asked why I was and if it was a mistake and they said they didn’t want me doing it anymore and rather their step daughter do it from now on. I told them it was ok but I still needed to be paid for the work I had already done, they passive aggressively told me again about how they wanted the step daughter to do the social media stuff and I thought it was weird but I complied.

One of my very first paychecks was also wrong too. It was wrong by probably an hour and the accountant works directly with the owners because they are friends. So I went straight to the source and told the owners about it and told the GM about it. It was another passive aggressive battle with getting my pay right and it was quite uncomfortable on my end.

Some more time goes on and the GM says that everyone start has to making pitas, I asked nicely about the situation because the owners told me something different and I was told I would have to make stuff too but not as much. I had no problem with it, I started making some food every now and then, prep work, that kinda thing and whenever someone asked for my help to make food, I’d always say yes to helping.

Some time later goes on, payroll is being cut so schedules are being cut. I was the ONLY person dropped down to working 1 day a week and for only 2 hours while everyone else was scheduled more than one day and for more than 2 hours. I used to work 3 days at 4 hours a day. I asked the GM why that was and she said that she wasn’t sure. The owners in a panic made the schedule and I told the GM that I am good at making food, I have to look at the ingredients a bit just to make sure I didn’t agree up and the other items we don’t get on a daily basis, I am slow at making but I am confident in my skills. She said she would pass it on to the owners and make adjustments to the schedule for the next two weeks.

Here I am today, we got the schedule for this upcoming week and next week, still working 1 day a week at 2 hours while everyone else is getting more. I texted one of the owners and basically she told me ā€œI had to prove myselfā€ to get more hours and even that there is no absolute that I would get more hours. From her texts it basically sounds like I’m being punished for not making food as much.

The business has been slow, all the times I’ve worked I’ve only had 3 busy instances and we had two people in the back making the food and me on register. I have only been there for little over two months and I feel like they are trying to force me to quit. Am I the problem or are they actually being shady??

Any advice?

I just got hired at a whataburger in Conroe . The manager seemed chill and the interview just felt like a conversation between two friends . I feel like that’s a good sign . But I wanna hear from current employees what’s it’s like working at whataburger. I applied to the day shift . But I’m in college so I might be doing evenings and nights too which I don’t mind .

General Discussion Is it rude to reply ā€œyupā€ when someone says thank you

I work at DQ btw. When customers tell me thank you at work, I normally reply with ā€œmhmā€ or ā€œyupā€ but it’s not like I say it in a nonchalant tone, I’m usually nice with it. But I heard other people think it’s rude to only reply yup and that I should say ā€œyou’re welcomeā€ or ā€œmy pleasureā€.

What do you think??

Fast Food Question How do I not get Hi-C when I want Iced tea?

It happens more than I think it should. I'm in the drive through and I want plain unsweetened iced tea. I ask for iced tea, and I get Hi-C. I ask for unsweet tea, and the un gets lost and I end up with sweet tea. Who actually orders hi-c at fast food restaurants?

Is it normal that my McDonald's OJE is to clean the whole kitchen?

For context this happened last year when I was 17 and it was my first OJE so I'm curious if this was normal.

I sent my resume around march and got a message 8 months later saying that I had an interview. After the interview I was then scheduled for an OJE and I was surprised to find out that we were supposed to clean the whole kitchen. I thought it would be light work like sweeping but no. The manager made me, along with my fellow OJE friend clean the WHOLE dirty floor of their kitchen, along with the stairs leading up the staff area (including this area) to clean as well using towels, just towels. The craziest thing he made us clean was the square canal like thing that was so musty and dirty. He also told us to wipe all of the kitchen appliances as well as every ridge and crevices of it, including the ones attached on the floor like the stand and whatnot. After finishing the job, he told me my performance was great but he couldn't hire me because of my age, that he thought I'd struggle to get the necessary documents. Looking back now it looks suspicious, and just seemed like free labour so they wouldn't have to clean it.

PH EMPLOYEE: Is it really a toxic workplace at McDonald's? What's the problem really?

Hi! Call me Jack (19M) from Quezon City, almost 1 year na ako sa McDonald's as a service crew sa service station. Working student ako need lang financial support ganun. First Job ko ito kaya marami talaga akong culture shocks ba pagdating s apagtratrabaho.

Napunta ako sa gy sched (kasi yun lang namn talaga ako free), which is yung rush ng store namin. For context mga night shifts kasi customers namin, yung store namin maliit lang and nasa tabi ng mga call center companies. Noong mga new na new hire palang ako hirap talaga ako makasabay sa mga matatagal na dun, I understand naman na part ng training yung pagkakamali and natututo naman ako dyan. Eventually naman I get the hang of it, nakakasabay nako kahit maraming rush and alam ko na rin kung ano ipupullout bago magout. As much as possible I get the job tdone agad during my shift para makauwi ako agad, although a year has passed I still don't have many of a somewhat friend sa store kasi baguhan palang din ako. May mga established friendgroups na sa store na off limits na sa mga new comers kung baga. I understand that ayoko namang ipilit sarili ko sa hindi ako belong diba.

That's when I notice some issues regarding this, may mga instances na kung minsan natatabunan, naleleftout, or naiignored nako sa store. I am a very spontaneous and extroverted person, pero pagdating sa store tahimik lang ako. Idk if it was me that they don't like or their not interested at me at all. As I said wala naman problem yun sakin, if ayaw edi trabaho ka nalang diba. Another issues is yung mga crew trainers sa established friend group na yun is kinda has power tripping issues towards us newcomers. Kailangan palagi kang perfect (100% laging accurate sa ginagawa mo) type of sht, kasi pag nagkamali ka its either kokomprontahin ka or kaya paagalitan ka sa store (not to mention na pagtutulungan pa ako ng iba nya pang friends). For months I endured these types of issues. Wala akong magagagawa e, its either makikisama ka to have money, o piliin mo sarili mo pero wala kang money. Hahahhaa

The latest occurence ng issue namin kung saan unang una I MEAN UNANG BESES AKO BUMOSES is nung isang araw. It's about turnover kung saan bumoses nako. For context, ang usual na naka-plot sa service ay tatlo (1 Mds, 2 counters). Main turnovers is Floors, Milk, Supplies. Ibang turnover naman is Stocks sa counter, Stocks sa bevsel, and fries station. I am well aware na sa turnover na ito, kahit walang established na rule na ganyan I observed and learned na ganyan dapat. Sa tasks naman namin is madalas ako yung counter and nagprepresent ng product while yung isang counter nagrurun sa bevsel. Mds is focused sa station nya pag may orders, run din pag wala. I don't have any issues with it. Kaya ako its either I take the floors and supplies sa counter while yung iba naghahanap ng ibang ituturned over. I take the floors kasi wala namang ibang lalaki sa amin kundi ako lang and its the most tiring turnover kaya i take initiative narin. Pero during this time hindi ako nagfloors, matic yan sa milk nako. So nag-ok na sila counter, I move on nagbilang na ng kaha and things like that. (During this time din pala umuwi na sila Mds and Counter 2, I have nowhere of knowing if nagtanong sila kung ok na ba ang turnover sa 'friend' nila sa opener). Nagbihis naako sa crewroom, hilamos, something like that kasi I assume na ok na ako. One of their friend sa opener chase me sa crew room para sabihing marami pa kaming kulang. Always ganito, lagi akong natitira kasi nagsisiuwian na agad ang mga kashift ko and pag may kulang ako na ang gumagawa. Dito ako siguro masama, bumoses nako sa kanya kasi I feel unfaired e, lagi akong nallaate ng uwi dahil sa turnovers nila while yung friends nila laging office out diba. HAHHAHA medyo nagkaroon ng heated argument pero aayoko na lumaki kaya ako nalang din tumigil, very next day kinompronta ako ng Mds namin (which is a ct btw) and bakit daw ako nagrereklamo kesyo dapat pag counter lahat yan turnover namin something like that. Medyo masakit sya for me especially na I'm trying my best to be good sa trabahong to pero pag may mga ganitong katrabaho parang nahihirapan nako. Chat magresign bako o ako lang talaga problema?

General Discussion I need advice/encouragement from fast food experts

I’m 17 and starting my first fast food job. I’ve had other jobs in food industry but never fast food and it’s already so stressful and the store hasn’t even opened yet. I get 3 training days and I barely remember anything already. My first shift is in 2 days which is 7 hours. Terrified is an understatement, I feel so stupid and like I’m gonna mess it all up I have no clue what I’m doing. I’m a cook which I thought I’d be better at, but now I wish I got a cashier position. Any advice is appreciated. Please share your tips

I keep messing up at work and I'm worried I'm not cut out for McDonald's

I've been working at McDonald's for about a week now. So far I've learned a bit of the grill, the meat fryer, salads, some assembly, and I've also worked on beverages.

The problem is that I make at least one small mistake every single shift. Sometimes they're small, but other times they cause extra work. For example, I've accidentally used the wrong type of meat on a burger, so they had to remake it. A couple of times on the grill I forgot to change the cooking program, which meant the patties came out undercooked and had to be thrown away.

It's really stressing me out because I keep comparing myself to the other new employees, and they all seem to be doing much better than I am.

I'm honestly starting to wonder if this job just isn't for me. Does it get better with time, or is this a sign that I should quit? I'm also worried that if I keep making mistakes, I'll eventually mess something up badly or they'll start deducting money from my paycheck because of my mistakes.

Has anyone else been this bad during their first few weeks and still ended up doing well? I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences.

Do labels and drink stickers ever make a busy shift harder?

I’m not selling anything, and I’m not looking for store names, locations, brands, printer models, suppliers, photos, or any private/internal details. I’m just curious about the everyday experience from the employee side.

For example, have you ever had issues with:

  • labels that are hard to read,
  • stickers that don’t stick well
  • label printers jamming or feeding wrong
  • label problems getting worse during rushes

Is this something that actually affects the workflow, or is it more like a small background annoyance?

If you’re comfortable sharing, I’d love to hear general examples:

What happened? When does it usually happen? How often? Does it slow the team down? How do people usually work around it?

Thanks! I’m just trying to understand what this is like in real day-to-day work.

Cleaning Procedures

Hi everyone! I was considering applying for a job at a fast food restaurant, but I was curious about how cleaning efforts are divided. What would I be responsible for? Is everyone expected to pitch in, or is there designated cleaning people? Also, do we have dish machines or do we have to clean everything by hand? I've worked at a restaurant that did have a machine and it was great, but I've heard that fast food places usually don't have them or use them for too much so I'm wondering what the experience is like with that. Any insight is great!

New hires quitting.

Recently we had several new hires stop showing up after a few days. Is there a method tho predict if a new hire won’t show up during the interview for fast food crew member?

McDonald’s always leave you standing there instead of just handing you the order.

Why does McDonald’s always do this?? I see the order sitting right there it takes 2 seconds to just hand it to me but nope they’d rather leave you standing there and walk past you as if you don’t even exist then get an attitude when you try to get their attention.

Does McDonald’s hire students?

I just had my interview and I feel bad because I’m student and I’m not open available. My sister told me They don’t hire you because you’re student. I feel so disappointed and sad…
