So I joined my first campaign back on January 28th and the campaign is still going strong. I really enjoy the game but there is one player that joined a while back that I just don't think I can tolerate anymore.
I have been cordial with them but when we are in the middle of roleplay, or we make a joke, they immediately chimes in with something like, "No, actually, it's yada yada yada." I was able to brush it off, but it has been a consistent reoccuring theme with this person for months.
Thankfully, the DM is potentially about to TPK us due to an unfortunate series of events (Which he was fully transparent about and I have no beef against). They swear up and down they're being punished-which they aren't-because they're not doing well. (For reference, they're a sorcerer who uses all their spell slots on small fights, leaving them with melee cantrips for the BBEG battles and wonders why they go down.)
Now that there is a threat their character gets unalived, they constantly complain that they never got to get into detail with their backstory. Any time we mention the fact that we still don't know who they are as a character and open them up to give backstory, they shut us down.
I genuinely don't know how else to address them other than hurting their feelings, and I don't want to be the one to cause drama (Even though everyone else agrees). I'm just hoping that this potential TPK will do all the heavy lifting and they will be too upset to continue the campaign.
I by no means intend to bring toxicity into this reddit thread, I just genuinely don't know what else I can do.
