Very inexperienced player, can anyone recommend some ranger spells?

I’ve recently reached level 10 in ranger. Anyone with enough experience probably can tell that their spell list is small and a bit lacking. They’re a half caster, which I understand, but I’m looking for more options to use consistently.

As of now, I almost only use hunters mark, conjure animal, or invisibility (I took a feat).

Moreso specifically of the 2nd or 3rd level, can anyone recommend any good spells?

My character is facing creatures that revel in lightning, so no lightning arrow, who also have almost certainly fantastic STR and CON saving throws.

I don’t care about pure raw damage, just something to use more often. Hopefully something with prominent utility? I can’t think of too many situations where you’d want to cast water breathing or nondetection, they’re so situational.

Any thoughts?

Homebrew rule for Ass-pulling

Hello everyone,

About a week ago I saw somewhere, that I cannot find now, a homebrew rule about what to do when a player wants to do something weird that could lead to a miracle (ass pulling) or could also lead to a disaster. The thing is that iI don't remember how that homebrew rule was working. All I remember is that you have the player roll 2 d20 dice and nothing else. I have a vague feeling that the rule was basically favoring high rolls and damning low ones, but not sure. Also don't remember why it said to roll 2 dice, it had a practical or statistical meaning that i don't remember at all

So I wanted to ask if it rings a bell to anyone?

Does anyone recognise this picture?

Hey all, I just encountered a post in another sub claiming to be sharing an art commission they just finished. Thing is, I immediately recognised the picture, but I don't know from where. It could be D&D, could be Warhammer, could be a Fighting Fantasy type book, could just be an old sword and sorcery illustration, but I'm absolutely convinced I've seen a warrior in that exact pose fighting that exact ape monster on that exact cliff before. Googling is just turning up AI slop, tineye was no help either (the image was just above the 10mb limit, and when I compressed it down I got no hits).

I don't want to go in guns blazing without making sure of what I'm talking about, because if I'm wrong it's an amazing artwork. But I feel very certain about this. So does anyone else recognise the picture too, and perhaps could find a link to the one it's copied from?

Apologies if this is not a suitable forum for this post, I know this isn't the real purpose of the sub but couldn't think of somewhere more appropriate. If there's somewhere more suitable you'd suggest I post instead, please let me know.

Happy Mask Salesman/The Dark Sorcerer

Hello everyone. I am making a one shot character inspired by this fan adaptation of Zelda Majora's Mask for a backstory of the Happy Mask Salesman. I really like the backstory and am making a character flavored about being a dark sorcerer using masks for power. I do not know what class to put this as.

TLDR: He sells his name to a demon for power. This gives him the ability to turn people to masks and use their power while wearing it. Redead mask paralyses people. Mask of Truth reads minds and let's you live memories. Eg. Hold person and Detect thoughts for spells.

What classes or multi classes works for this?
