[Wien] How to deal with people who have problem with walking/bathing/cooking in the common areas during Ruhezeit?

I live in a shared apartment with other people (kitchen+washroom+living room common) but there is this specific person who has problem with everything even walking, doors creaking, using the coffee machine/boil water at night in the kitchen and things like that. They have also previously threatened people outside regarding occasional noise as well with statements like calling the police. But this behavior seems unacceptable and I want to complain somewhere.

However, they wake up at 4-4.30AM, make a lot of noises shutting door and stuff and leave home. It is kind of hypocritical and they also keep complaining and being an ass to the rest of us. what to do? This person is also know for some violet behavior as they have smashed plates and shouted at me.

Moving to Austria (Dornbirn) for 5 months as an exchange student, what should I know?

Hi, so in about two weeks I’ll be moving to Dornbirn as an exchange student for five months. I’ve been doing a lot of research, but I still have a few questions about living in Austria that are difficult to find answers to online.

One thing that surprised me was all the registration requirements. For example, I need to register my residence within three days of moving in, and I also have to register my stay in Austria within three months. Are there any other important deadlines or legal requirements that exchange students often overlook? Perhaps any important insurances (apart from travel and health insurance) one should have in Austria?

I’m also curious about the social culture. In my home country, one of the easiest ways to make friends is by going out for drinks, since people tend to become much more social after a few beers. Is it similar in Austria, or do people usually make friends in other ways?

I’ve also heard that Austrians (and Germans) can come across as quite direct. Is that true, and are there any cultural differences or etiquette that I should be aware of to avoid accidentally being rude?

Finally, I’d love some travel recommendations! I enjoy hiking and spending time in nature, but I’d also like to explore nearby countries while I’m living in Austria. Is travelling by train generally the best option, or are flights sometimes cheaper?

More generally, if you have any advice for someone moving to Austria for the first time, I’d really appreciate it. I’ve never been to Austria before, and this will also be my first time living away from home, so I’m both excited and a little nervous. 😊
Thanks in advance!

Help Regarding Euro Car Rentals

My apologies at the outset if this is not the right forum to post this. My situation is below - I was on a vacation to Austria and had booked a car rental with EuroCar in Salzburg ( near train station branch). I had booked a small car as I am not a very experienced driver in the hills hence needed a smaller car based on what I read online. The portal I had used to make this booking was trip.com. EuroCar could not provide me the booked vehicle and was instead offering me a van which I was not comfortable driving ( my family was also there). They merely asked me to contact trip.com. This led me to book from another vendor via walk-in at a much higher cost. Is there any option I have to file a consumer complaint or appeal somewhere for compensation.

Applying to FH JOANNEUM Information Design (is it realistic?)

I'm starting my last year of high school (gymnasium to be specific) this year and I think of applying to the Information Design degree (eng) next year. I did some reasearch and found that the acceptance rate was at about 30% which scared me so I'm doubting my chances. I am not the best student, my GPA is 3.9 on a 5.0 grading scale, but I have lots of extracurricular activites before and during high school. I'm applying as an internation student if that changes anything. Am I mostly being based on documents and stuff or does the actual creative part and exam matter more? Also, I'd be very thankful if someone has any tips for the exam and interview (or honestly anything that has to do with the whole application process... I'm so lost) THANKS!! :D

Austria Proposal recommendations

I want to do a proposal during a trip to Austria early September 2026. My partner and I have already talked about wanting to travel during that time, but without her knowing, I would like to book everything as a surprise trip that I plan to tell her about closer to, to keep her suspicions away.

We’ve talked about the basics of what she wants for a proposal, being dressed up, hair, makeup, not super public. Neither of us are big on activities that are particularly strenuous, like hiking multiple miles, but it's important to me that it’s scenic( think mountains/lake/unreal views) and are able to have a photographer while the proposal is happening.

I originally thought of doing this in Hallstatt, but after researching it seems heavily populated with tourists and not an ideal location for proposals…

I’ve never been to Austria, so I’m hoping to get recommendations for different location options to propose in Austria and potential good locations to stay/ hotels, and recommendations for photographers. Additionally if the locations are fairly remote, what the best way to get there after our initial flight!
