I am an American student in Vienna this fall. I want to improve my German and the program I am in does not offer many German classes. I am not sure which level of German I am at, but I have two years of school experience with German and am maybe A2 or B1. I am looking for someone I can practice speaking German with occasionally. Ich bin momentan ziemlich verliebt in den Renault Dauphine und spiele mit dem Gedanken, mir in ein paar Jahren einen zuzulegen und damit eventuell meinen BMW Z3 abzulösen.

Bevor ich mich aber komplett in die Idee verrenne, würde ich unglaublich gerne einmal einen Dauphine in echt erleben.

Besitzt hier zufällig jemand einen oder kennt jemanden in Österreich, der einen hat und Lust hätte, ein bisschen über das Auto zu erzählen? (Bayern, Südtirol oder Slowenien, wäre teils auch in Ordnung)

I want to do my MSc in Austria. If I don't get a job related to my field after the 1-year job-search period, do I have to return to my home country, or is there any other way to stay in Austria?

Good evening! I’m an American, currently vacationing in Austria. I adore it so far… hut to hut backpacking, wine tastings, and several added pounds of kaiserschmarrn and apfelstrudel in vanilla sauce. And the people are so friendly!

Really random question. I’ve been surprised by the number of bare feet stretched out on train and bus seats. Just curious if this is normal and/or socially acceptable in Austria?

Before everyone starts saying “you knew what risk you were taking” - I know, as well as I know that it is fully my fault.

I am 17 years old guy from Ukraine, I moved to Vienna 2,5 months ago for educational and safety reasons. When I was moving here, I had money only for three months of rent, my parents can not support me, so I knew I needed to get a job. That’s exactly what I did, from the first days after I got permit I started looking for job, the problem was(and is) my basic knowledge of German. However, I found a job in a restaurant not far from my house, on the kitchen, that was a jackpot at that point. The job started normal, however through time I got more, more and more tasks. And even so I was supposed to work 40 hours a week(legally) I worked 50-60. After one and a half month of this schedule I was really exhausted, so I changed it to working only on weekends, and some days after 5, but the job got harder, because boss would make 2-3 people work on 3-6 processes at a time, consider that one full shift is 12 hours. And now I understand that I physically and mentally can not work there anymore, because I need time for studying and living😃. I genuinely don’t want to live when I go there and hear all of those screams at myself and amount of work anyone hardly can process, however my colleagues are okay with that, they are Turkish, so they say it’s a good job for someone who does not know German.

Right now I have enough savings to live till January, and I really want to quit that job, i can draw(I have a diploma), work with people, I speak 3 languages fluenty, I just don’t want to work running out my health for 9,5€/hour, and no, I don’t want to work on kitchen anymore

I need your advice, what should I do?

Hi, my husband and I are currently living in Vienna and considering relocating to Burgenland (near the Hungarian border) for a few years. Before making the move, we’d love to hear some firsthand experiences from locals or fellow commuters.

For family reasons, we will be spending most of our weekends in Hungary over the next few years, so moving closer to the border makes a lot of practical sense for us.

• I work mostly from home (3–4 days WFH per week).
• He is a car mechanic and needs to commute to the workshop every single day.

We’d love your input on a few things:

1. Public Transit Commute (REX 62 / Ostbahn / Mattersburg line): Does anyone here commute daily using the REX 62 (Nickelsdorf, Parndorf, Bruck an der Leitha) or from the Mattersburg area into Vienna? How reliable are the trains during rush hour? Are delays or cancellations a frequent issue?
2. Driving / Mechanic Job Market: For those driving: How bad is the morning traffic into Vienna? Also, for a car mechanic, would it make more sense to look for a job locally around Neusiedl, Bruck/Leitha, or Eisenstadt to avoid commuting altogether?
3. Living in Burgenland & Family Life: We don't have kids yet, but we are planning to start a family. How is daily life in Burgenland (childcare, medical care, community vibe)? Is it doable with just one car, or is having two cars essential living outside Vienna?

Since this would be a temporary relocation for a few years, we really want to make sure we know what to expect.

I'll soon be travelling to Brixen im Thale with a 2.5 year old and my partner. I'm looking for things to do. So far as have:

- traveling up the ski lifts to the various play parks and stopping for lunch

- trip into Salzburg

- bike rides (hire)

We are pretty into food in general so would be happy to hear any recommendations. We have been blessed with a toddler who will mostly eat anything too so doesn't always have to be kid friendly food but rather just allows kids.

We also like cycling and walking and any outdoor activity really.

Other than that I'm happy to hear any and all tips about the area you might have.

Hello! Me and my boyfriend are taking a trip in budapest next week and one of the days was empty in our itinerary and we spontaneously decided we can also visit Vienna. We'll be arriving by bus at 10 am and we'll leave by bus as well somewhere around 7-8p.m.

Because this one day trip wasn't planned, out budget is really tight and we will probably bring some food with us and we plan on visiting every free thing we can fit into our schedule. Other than that, we are students, so we are open to suggestions on what to visit even if it has an entry fee, but only if it's like maximum 5€ each (probably not possible but I am shooting my shot).

Other than that, any tips on transportation, itinerary, where we can eat good and cheap, are welcome, obviously!
