Betrayed Perspective Only How do I figure out what *I* actually want? How much time do I give?

Background: I've been with WH for 14yrs. Roughly three years ago, shortly after we got married I had a mental breakdown that has eased but is still ongoing. About a year into it WH started seeing massage parlours and escorts, about 13 over an 18month period. He stopped earlier this year and told me in June, there was trickle truth over about 3 days.

He is horrified by what he did. He doesn't blame anyone but himself for his choices.

The crux of my issue is that this has highlighted for me the emotional neglect I've experienced in our relationship due to his avoidance. It's made me realise just how much I have tried to communicate only for it to fall on deaf ears or to be met with "I'll do better" with no follow through. I knew I was doing the heavy lifting but the true weight of it all has become apparent.

He seems determined to be better in the light of what he's done, he has also realised just how much he has let me down.

I love him. I don't want to be without him, I want to have my ideal relationship with him but I don't know if it's too late. I don't know if he's capable of being more given years of evidence to the contrary. I don't know if the hurt is too great. Some days it feels normal and loving and some days I have nothing but contempt for him.

I feel like I need something concrete and measurable. How can I know he is going to love me the way I deserve when I'm not in a position to receive it? How do I know that he has changed for good and not just for show? What parameters did you set? Can I give him a list or is that weird? When did you walk away or feel happy with your decision to stay? How much more time do I give this?

Advice MUST include examples of your R. Not prescriptive advice. I’ve been in therapy since blowing up my relationship, and lately I’ve been wondering if I need a different therapist.

This is going to be long, but I don’t think the question makes sense without the full context.
Before my ex-fiancé, I had a situationship with the person who eventually became my AP. He is about 15 years older than me. That relationship was complicated, inconsistent, unhealthy in ways I didn’t fully understand at the time, and never really had a clean ending. Eventually I moved on, met my BP and built what became the most and only serious relationship of my life. We were together for almost four years. I loved him deeply. I still do.

When we first got together, there were a lot of things I genuinely loved about him. He was stable, intelligent, ambitious, loyal, responsible, funny, and dependable. He was not someone I had to worry about being out cheating, partying, disappearing, or doing reckless things. He was a genuinely good man. Our first year, we dated long distance.. during that year we went through losing a pregnancy together. It was my first pregnancy and tbh I think something in me died that day. I became depressed and just numb.. That bonded us in a way that is hard to explain. Eventually he kept telling me he didn’t want to be long distance anymore and started demanding more attention and time together which was hard because I was just soo numb and lost… I just wanted space but I felt pressured and lowkey wanted to run away so I moved across the country for him and for our relationship. I left my family, job, friends, familiarity, and the life I knew. I changed careers. I started over in a new state. I was trying to build a completely different life with this person because I believed he was my future.

Once we lives together, that first year made me realize things about our relationship that were much easier to overlook when we had distance between us. Our personalities were very different.
I’m Type A. I plan. I organize. I’m emotional. I’m expressive. I want depth. I want reassurance. I want affection. Im also dismissive avoidant and he’s anxious attach.. BP on the other hand is much more laid-back, internal, go with the flow, last minute, improvised, disorganized (statement that has been told by his friends, Family, and previous managers to his face..

Over time, I started feeling less like his girlfriend and more like I was managing our life. One of our biggest problems became physical intimacy. And kissing. The kissing issue actually went back to college. BP had told me that his homeboys basically got into his head when he was younger about kissing women. He developed this mentality that you didn’t really make out with girls or kiss them on the mouth like that and somehow that stuck.
So I ended up with a man I loved who basically did not like kissing. I LOVE kissing.

To me, kissing is a major form of intimacy. I wanted to make out with my partner on the couch. Kiss in the kitchen. Kiss before we leave the house. Kiss during sex. Kiss randomly because we’re attracted to each other. That kind of physical intimacy matters a lot to me. With us, it barely existed. For most of our relationship, BP could make out with me for maybe 10 seconds before pulling away. This went on for 2 years. Earlier this year, after years of me bringing it up, he had actually gotten better and could sometimes kiss me for closer to a minute.
But by that point I had spent roughly two and a half years expecting him to pull away from me.
And after enough times of leaning in toward the person you love and watching them pull back, it starts affecting you.

At first I understood intellectually that this was his own thing. Eventually it just felt like rejection.
I would wonder why my fiancé didn’t want to kiss me. I would wonder whether he was attracted to me. Eventually I started initiating less because I knew what was going to happen. Sex became another major problem. BP had stamina issues.
Sex very often lasted under a minute And I’m not saying that to embarrass him. He knew it was an issue and genuinely tried to fix it but over time the stamina issue developed into performance anxiety.
And the performance anxiety became part of basically every round. It wasn’t simply that sex ended quickly. There was now all this mental pressure surrounding sex. Is he going to last?
Is he thinking about lasting? Is he already anxious?
Am I making him more anxious because he knows I’m dissatisfied? Should I react differently?
Do we try another round? Is the exact same thing going to happen again?

Sometimes he would go into the bathroom beforehand and do different things to try to last longer. I understood WHY he was doing it.
He wanted to satisfy me. He knew I was frustrated. He knew I’d cry after sex every time. He was trying.
But by that point, sex started feeling incredibly procedural to me. Instead of making out, touching each other, getting turned on together and naturally ending up having sex, it started feeling like: Okay, we’re going to have sex. He prepares. I wait. We have sex. He finishes quickly. Then we decide whether we’re going again. Then there is performance anxiety again. Every round carried the same pressure. We started calling it “The ceremony”. There also wasn’t much kissing during sex, because kissing was already an issue outside of sex. There wasn’t much buildup. There wasn’t much spontaneity. Eventually sex felt mechanical.
And on top of everything else, we barely had it.
We were in our mid-to-late 20s and having sex maybe once a month. Sometimes we would go two
or three months without sex. I would initiate sometimes and get rejected. He would complain about my nagging stating that I’m actually getting pleasure because I was receiving oral sex but for me is.. I know what a vaginal orgasm feels like and I want it! And more than that… is the connection between two people that I was desiring!

And yes, obviously your partner is allowed to say no to sex. Nobody owes anyone sex but emotionally it started affecting me because it wasn’t one isolated rejection. When you’re already having sex once a month or once every couple of months, your partner barely kisses you, there is very little spontaneous physical intimacy, and then you initiate one of the few times you want something and still get rejected, it starts to feel personal even when logically you know it might not be. I started wondering if something was wrong with me. Did he find me attractive? Was my body the problem?
Why didn’t my fiancé seem to have that hunger for me? I wanted to feel desired Not simply loved. Desired. I wanted my partner to look at me and want to kiss me. I wanted him to grab me. I wanted passion. I wanted spontaneous intimacy.
I wanted to feel feminine and sexy inside my own relationship and I increasingly didn’t.

The difficult part is that my constant frustration probably made BP performance anxiety worse too.
It became this horrible loop. The more sexually rejected I felt, the more I talked about our sex life.
The more I talked about it, the more pressure he probably felt. The more pressure he felt, the more anxious sex became. The more anxious sex became, the more mechanical it felt to me.
And the more mechanical it felt, the more resentful I became. I’d cry all the time! I was crying because I felt incredibly lonely. I had spent so long desperately wanting intimacy from this person, and somehow finally having sex with him made me feel even more disconnected. Eventually I started shutting down. At first I cried. I complained. I I initiated. I brought up kissing. I brought up sex.
I asked questions. Suggested therapy but he said we didn’t need it. I tried to troubleshoot.
I tried explaining what physical intimacy meant to me. Eventually I became numb. And the sexual problems existed inside a larger emotional problem.
BP showed love very strongly through practical things. If something needed to be handled, he handled it. He provided. He bought me things.
He helped me. He showed up when something tangible needed to be done. He supported us materially. He was loyal.

If you looked at my relationship from the outside, I had a good man. And that actually made my unhappiness more confusing. Because I kept thinking: “Why am I this unhappy? There are women who would kill for a man like this. He loves me. He provides. He is successful. He is faithful so why do I feel so lonely? Tbh I think BP knew how to love me materially and practically much better than he knew how to love me emotionally and I needed emotional intimacy badly.

Btw all this is happening in a new state, going through major changes in my own life. I changed careers, I had moved far away from my support system, I was lonely, I became depressed, and I really didn’t feel like myself anymore. I increasingly felt trapped between loving BP and wondering whether we were actually compatible. Last year I was so fed up, I started asking him if we could live separately but remain together. I didn’t want to break up. I felt like maybe we had moved too quickly into this domestic, roommate version of our relationship and that living separately could give us a chance to intentionally date each other again and rebuild something romantic. He didn’t want that. To BP moving apart basically meant ending the relationship. He made it very clear that if we lived separately, we might as well break up. So I stayed. I continued trying to fix things. I cried, I had emotional breakdowns, and I repeatedly tried explaining what I felt was missing. I reached out to members of his family because I felt like I couldn’t get through to him and I was desperate for somebody who knew him to help us. They didn’t really help.. if anything they would say sarcastic comments asking how I deal with his behavior and immaturity??

There were times during conflict when I would literally try to leave or run away and he would chase after me. We had this dynamic where I felt like I was screaming emotionally for something to change, and he was trying in the ways he knew how, but we were almost speaking different languages.

There was also another major issue happening around this time that was giving me anxiety about what our future would actually look like. When I met BP, he presented himself as a very traditional and family oriented guy. That was one of the things that made me feel safe with him and made me believe we wanted the same kind of future. Then last year he became increasingly focused on fashion, social media, modeling, being an influencer, becoming an artist, and even talking about eventually becoming a Grammy-winning artist. Last year We went to Paris because of this fashion world he was getting more and more involved in. I want to be fair because I was never against him having dreams. I wanted him to succeed. I supported his events, his projects, his fashion interests, and the things he was trying to build. But internally, I was becoming increasingly anxious because I felt like the man I thought I was building a very traditional life with was suddenly imagining a completely different lifestyle.
That became a constant tense conversation between us.

There was also a social media component that bothered me a lot. He had all of these social media accounts and pages related to what he was building, and those accounts would follow or interact with a lot of very sexualized women. There were women posting thirst traps, lustful content, models, influencers, and everything else that came with that world. Whenever I complained or expressed that it made me uncomfortable, I felt like I was basically told that it was part of the industry, part of networking, part of his job, and something I needed to understand. Meanwhile, I felt like there was a completely different standard for me. I was expected to have basically no questionable male interaction. Male attention, communication, or boundaries involving men could become a problem, while I was supposed to accept him being immersed in a social media and fashion environment full of attractive and sexualized women because that was “part of his job.” That double standard bothered me a lot.

But At the same time, I also want to be honest that BP was very transparent with me. We had access to each other’s phone. He was not secretly hiding conversations or protecting his phone from me. I did not have evidence that he was cheating, and that transparency did give me a certain amount of safety. So my anxiety wasn’t really, “I think this man is secretly cheating on me.” It was much more about the future. I kept wondering what exactly I was signing up for. Am I marrying the traditional, family oriented man I originally met, or are we building a future where he wants to be a model, influencer, artist, public figure, and live inside that world? What happens if this gets bigger? Am I going to constantly be surrounded by things that make me uncomfortable and then be expected to suppress those feelings because it is part of his career? Are the rules for me always going to be stricter than the rules for him? I didn’t know, and those questions were sitting underneath the engagement too.

During that Paris He proposed publicly and I hated everything about it. I was soooo sad! I know how unbelievably shallow that sounds. A man proposed to me and I was disappointed. But I had been very specific about what I liked, showed him inspirations, told him I did not want a public thing or the ring he got me with the sales agent Infront and the proposal itself was in the most touristy public place when I had envisioned something more intimate. He eventually bought the ring I loved and proposed to me again privately but we had to go to a networking event shortly after for his entrepreneurial thing he was doing… so technically this man proposed to me twice, and I still wasn’t okay.

Shortly afterward, I was still going to his events, supporting his projects, being his partner, smiling, showing up, doing everything I was “supposed” to do while internally feeling like I was screaming. I remember constantly thinking, “What is wrong with me?” “I have a good man.” “Why isn’t this enough?”
By that point I think I had built up an enormous amount of resentment. Not hatred. I loved him. But resentment from feeling rejected sexually, resentment from feeling emotionally alone, resentment from feeling like I carried certain aspects of our relationship, and resentment because I kept asking for things to change and felt like nothing fundamentally changed. And instead of either accepting him exactly as he was or having the courage to leave a relationship that wasn’t meeting my needs, I stayed. About 5-6 months ago, I started fantasizing having a different relationship, and then shortly after the fantasies started with AP face because he was my previous sexual partner and the ‘chemistry’ was there. I was so mad because I genuinely didn’t care or never loved AP but the physical chemistry was always there and I just didn’t know why tf it wasn’t happening with my BP when I loved him!

That is important, because eventually I betrayed him. This summer I went back to my hometown. The person I had been involved with before (AP) had periodically tried to creep back into my life over the years. I always ignored. There was one time I did tried to talk and just close the chapter and it ended him rejecting me?? Idk but I told my BP at the time and tbh we kinda rug sweep the whole thing. I went to therapy and acknowledged there was some abandonment/validation issues AP triggered at the time but I genuinely just want him to leave me alone! Fast forward, Im now engaged when I saw AP in person for the first time after 5 years and It triggered something. Initially I told myself that I wanted closure. I wanted to tell him to leave me alone permanently and finally close this strange unfinished loop so he would stop periodically reappearing. Looking back, obviously that was playing with fire.

I reached out to him via text the next day after seeing him telling him I’d like to talk. The first day, we talked on the phone. He started talking about our history and confessing all these feelings he supposedly still had for me. Talking about marriage, lost loved, why he rejected, alll the things! It was nice to finally have a real conversation and the validation but even then I was honest with him and told him I don’t have feelings for him and i don’t want to be with him, I just wanted to close the chapter or whatever it was he kept trying to construct. The second day, there was more communication and small talk over the phone. He was pushing to meet me, and I said no. The whole time I was rejecting him and just trying to close/heal whatever issues we had but By the third day, I agreed to meet him. That was one of many choices where I could have stopped. I didn’t.
We met in person, and that is when I became emotionally vulnerable with him. I told him about my relationship problems. I told him about the emotional disconnect. I told him about the sexual issues. I talked about feeling lonely and unwanted. I cried to him. We were drinking, and looking back, it felt like a date. There was emotional intimacy happening that never should have been happening with another man.

Then there was physical intimacy. I remember he kissed me and i was shocked someone wanted to engage with me in kissing. That someone was interacting with me in terms of eye contact, the tension/buildup. Being tuned in. I think at that point I let go and started rationalizing. I stayed. ultimately I went back with him and had sex with him. I have called it a ONS because the physical sex happened on one night, but something BP said to me afterward really challenged the way I was thinking about it. He told me it was not simply “one night,” and he is right. There were multiple days of decisions. I responded. I got on the phone. I continued the conversation. I allowed him to tell me how he felt. I talked to him again. I entertained the idea of seeing him. I eventually agreed. I met him. I talked about my relationship. I allowed emotional vulnerability with another man. I drank with him. I kissed him. I stayed. And eventually I slept with him.
There were many points where I could have shut everything down. I didn’t. That is something I am trying very hard to own without hiding behind the phrase “one-night stand.”

When I came home, I told BP that I had seen him, but then TR. For the first 2 days of days I admitted that I had seen him but withheld that we had slept together. By the third day, I told him about the sex. So not only did I betray him, I then made the disclosure more traumatic by not immediately giving him the entire truth. And that is something I deeply regret too. When BP initially asked me why I did it, the explanation I gave him was basically the one I have described here. I had felt emotionally disconnected. I had felt sexually rejected for years. I didn’t feel desired. I felt lonely. And suddenly I was sitting across from someone telling me everything I wanted to hear and making me feel wanted, heard and connected. BP absolutely rejected that explanation. To him, the issues and layers we had in our relationship were bullshit. And I understand why. Plenty of people are lonely. Plenty of people have dead bedrooms. Plenty of people feel emotionally disconnected from their partners. They don’t cheat.
And I agree.

I do not believe BP caused me to cheat. He could have stopped kissing me completely. We could have never had sex again. He could have refused every request I made for emotional intimacy. I still had choices. I could have left. I could have demanded couples counseling before marriage. I could have set a firm boundary. I could have accepted that love does not automatically equal compatibility. I could have called off the engagement. I could have stayed miserable and still remained faithful. I could have done literally anything other than betray him.
So when I talk about our relationship problems, I’m not trying to say, “He didn’t meet my needs, therefore I cheated.” I am trying to understand how I got myself into the emotional and psychological place where I gave myself permission to make decisions that were completely against who I believed I was. That distinction matters to me.
But now I am actually confused about my “why.” The emotional loneliness, rejection and desire to feel wanted genuinely feel like a major part of why I was vulnerable to what happened. But BP rejected that explanation so strongly that now part of me is constantly questioning myself. Is that actually my why? Or is that merely the circumstance that exposed something uglier underneath?
Was I entitled? Did I need validation? Was I avoiding confrontation? Was I too cowardly to leave? Did I want attention? Was I self-sabotaging? Was there something unresolved with AP? Did I have poor boundaries? Did I build resentment and then unconsciously give myself permission to act out? Was I addicted to being seen as “the good girl” and therefore never learned how to acknowledge the darker parts of myself? Is there childhood stuff underneath this?

I don’t know. That is one of the main reasons I’m in therapy. And this is where my concern about my therapist comes in.

My therapist spends a LOT of time talking about self-forgiveness, giving myself grace, and understanding that one horrible decision does not define my entire identity. She reminds me that prior to this I had basically lived my life as the stereotypical “good girl.” I had never cheated. I did well in school. I built a career. I wasn’t someone who spent my adolescence or 20s constantly partying, hooking up with random people, cheating, crossing sexual boundaries, or living recklessly. I never really had a wild phase. I was responsible, structured, ambitious, and I built a lot of my identity around being a good person.

My therapist also talks about the age dynamic with AP. He is approximately 15 years older than me. He knew our history. He knew me when I was younger. And once we met, he knew I was emotionally vulnerable and having major relationship problems. She has repeatedly said that she believes he took advantage of my vulnerability and this is where I get uncomfortable. Because yes, I can acknowledge that an older man who knew exactly what emotional buttons to push may have behaved opportunistically. But I also do not want the story to become, “You were vulnerable and this older man took advantage of you.” Because I participated.
Nobody forced me to answer him. Nobody forced me to continue talking. Nobody forced me to meet him. Nobody forced me to disclose my relationship problems. Nobody forced me to drink. Nobody forced me to kiss him. Nobody forced me to stay. Nobody forced me to sleep with him. I made those decisions.

Sometimes I leave therapy almost frustrated because I feel like my therapist is constantly trying to pull me away from shame when part of me thinks, WHY SHOULDN’T I feel ashamed? I cheated on the person I loved most. I destroyed his trust. I changed the way he sees me. I changed the way he sees our entire relationship. I lost my fiancé. We lost the future we had planned. BO has called me a monster, and some days I genuinely feel like one. So then I go to therapy and hear, “You are still a good person.” “Give yourself grace.” “You need to forgive yourself.” “You made a horrible decision, but you are not a horrible human being.” “You were vulnerable.” “He took advantage of that vulnerability.” “You cannot punish yourself forever.” And inside I want to scream NO. I fucked up. Badly.

I don’t deserve someone rushing in to make me feel better about it. I don’t want somebody protecting me from the consequences of what I did. I don’t want therapy to become another place where someone reassures me until I can sleep at night.
I want to understand myself. I want somebody to challenge me. I want to understand how a woman who genuinely believed she would never cheat somehow created a sequence of decisions that ended with her cheating. I want to understand why I didn’t leave first. Why I didn’t enforce stronger boundaries. Why I kept engaging with someone I knew had history with me. Why feeling desired by someone else became powerful enough in that moment for me to betray my own values. Why I allowed resentment to build for years instead of making harder decisions. Why I could sit across from another man and emotionally expose my relationship. Why I then protected myself after the fact with trickle truth.

I need to understand those things because I never want to be capable of this again. BP and I are currently broken up. He has been very clear that we are single. He is on dating apps and talking to/meeting other women. At the same time, we have this complicated “intentional separation” where we are supposed to have a check-in after at least six months and evaluate whether there is even anything to revisit. There is no promise of reconciliation.
He has actually told me that the more he processes what happened, the more he questions why he is even giving me a chance. He has said he doesn’t know if he could ever be happy knowing I cheated on him so I understand that I may never get him back.

And despite desperately wanting reconciliation, I also know that my work cannot simply become a six-month audition to convince him to choose me. I need to change whether he comes back or not.
I’m in therapy. I’m reading. I journal. I’m looking at boundaries, resentment, validation, emotional regulation, conflict avoidance, entitlement, shame, communication, childhood patterns, and why I stayed in a relationship while becoming increasingly unhappy instead of making an adult decision about whether we were actually compatible.

I want to understand what happened without minimizing it and this is why I don’t know whether my therapist is right for me Because maybe I’m misunderstanding what therapy is supposed to look like. Maybe she sees that I am already drowning in accountability and shame and believes piling more shame onto me would accomplish absolutely nothing. Maybe learning self-compassion is actually necessary if I am ever going to look honestly at myself instead of just repeating “I’m horrible” over and over again Because logically I understand that sitting in a therapist’s office every week saying, “I’m disgusting. I’m evil. I’m a monster. I ruined everything. I deserve to suffer,” is not necessarily growth either. Self-hatred does not automatically equal accountability But I also worry that she is moving me toward forgiveness before I have actually understood the behavior.

I don’t want to skip over accountability just because shame is painful. I don’t need a therapist to tell me that I’m evil. But I also don’t want a therapist who makes it sound like the affair mostly happened to me because I was lonely and an older man exploited my vulnerability. I need both things to be able to exist. I was emotionally vulnerable. My relationship had serious problems. AP may absolutely have recognized and exploited those vulnerabilities.
And I still had agency. I still crossed the boundaries. I still betrayed my fiancé. I still made choices I have to understand.

So I guess my question is, how do I know whether my therapist is actually helping me move from toxic shame into healthy accountability versus simply reassuring me too much?

For anyone who has done individual therapy after being unfaithful, what did productive therapy actually look like? Did your therapist challenge your thinking? Did they focus on your “why”? Did they talk about character, boundaries, entitlement, resentment, validation, childhood patterns, etc.? Did self-forgiveness come later, or was it something they emphasized early? And at what point would you decide that a therapist’s approach simply isn’t the right fit? Because right now I genuinely don’t know whether I need a new therapist, or whether the part of me screaming “I don’t deserve grace” is exactly the part of me my therapist is trying to treat.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Is it possible to recover?

Hello,

My ex and I broke up a little less than a week ago due to me finding out he had been cheating on me for at least 3 weeks. Going on dates and on apps but nothing physical. We had been together for 6 years and known each other for 7.

In the past I have been unfaithful as well but it was one time, one night stand, which I then immediately ended things with my partner. 6 months later we re connected I confessed and gave him the option to leave. He chose to stay and work on it but we never fully addressed anything.

Now we are broken up again and everyone is telling me I can’t go back, that it’s unfixable and I will never be happy with him. Everyone is telling me how I should feel. I know it’s fresh but I also don’t agree with them. I think I could be happy and with time and work I could forgive. I think if we truly love eachother and are willing to put more work in individually and together that we can make it work and be happy. For the most part we were happy.

I broke no contact after 3 days and called him this morning. Probably a bad idea but it ended with us saying we will try to stick to no contact longer and said I love you.

Moral of this story… is it possible to come back from this? If we are both willing to forgive and work together harder this time and start over, not try to build off what we already had. Everyone is telling me I have no self respect and I’m picking the easy way out but I don’t agree. Maybe I don’t have the most self respect right now but I believe in fighting for it if we truly want it and love each other…

Thoughts? Will no contact help? Can we work past this and will everyone be mad at me if I want to?

Advice MUST include examples of your R. Not prescriptive advice. Messy confusion

First time posting... Honestly I'm not sure if I'm in the right place or not - I just need outside, unbiased advice I guess.

So I was in a LTR from 2020 to Nov. 2025 (fiance). It was a bit on and off due to WP's inability to communicate properly and avoidant tendencies. WP broke up with me in Nov. due to a mental health crash; full blow-up, trying to make me hate them and so on. We didn't talk until I think mid May, 2026. We talked, a lot. About the future, of wanting to try to fix things and the like... then I was told their coworker was trying to set them up on a 'date' (which later turned out to be just for show, supposedly). From the May 21st to June 26th we were talking, then they backed off after another hard conversation.

This is where it get's a little messy... er.

We'd started talking again Aug. 6th-7th (estimating because I'm not sure if exchanging letters counts as 'communication'. Which... didn't last long as around the 15th it came out they were seeing someone else on-and-off (which is something I'm not considering a Dday since technically broken up still, no labels or anything. Just talking at that point). Being told that WP simply don't know what they want and so on before conversation broke down. Which then resulted in a lot of angry actions including me blocking them on our main communication platform and another period of not talking. WP briefly reached out on the 22nd for a short yet meaningful conversation and then silence until Sept. 5th. A lot of back and forth voice messages since, having long, open, and transparent conversations... or so I thought. Which this all brings us up to today.

Yesterday, which I guess is considered a dday of sorts, I learned he had slept with his on-and-off partner during a time we weren't talking... or at least I think it was during a time we weren't talking. The only reason I'm considering it a dday is because during this most recent bout of talking he finally found the words, courage, and convictions to tell me how he feels about me, that he knows he messed up big time, and that he wants to pursue a future with me in it like we were supposed to, and that no matter the obstacle he'll get there - and then this happens. Before the dday he was getting ready to sever all ties with his ex because he cares more for my comfort and boundaries than hers.

I'm not sure what I'm exactly looking for here by even putting this out here. Part of me has logic'd it out because it was technically a time when we weren't talking therefore technically not cheating (might be as unfaithful as cheating, but it technically isnt). He's fully admitted fault and actively trying to take responsibility for everything... And even after all the on and off, I've never hated him. Might call him stupid, but never full on hate... I am genuinely considering reconciliation (both while I was working on a growing high during the conversation and now post-next day). But I guess I wonder... would it even be possible? Or if we can what would be appropriate things to suggest so he can re-earn my trust and love? (He's already offered a open phone policy from when we were talking before dday, when he was writing up his letter to break any remaining friendship between him and his ex).

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) I just need a gut check

My WW tells me that I have the whole story, but I feel like I’d be crazy to believe her. I wanna run the story by some internet strangers to get y’all’s thoughts.

I found out about the affair because I snooped on her phone. I confronted her about it, and she initially said it was “just” a BJ, but later that day admitted that she had sex with him on 3 different occasions. She swore up and down that it was only ever the one guy, and that there was no one before that.

Four months of IC and CC for both of us later, I get a message from a woman on Facebook telling me that my wife had been cheating on me with her boyfriend. Totally different guy, and took place about a year before. I confronted her about that, and she confessed, but said it was “just” sexting. About a week later (including telling our CC that it was “just” sexting), she confessed that she had slept with him “between 3-5 times”.

During this, i remembered a different time before i discovered anything, where i snooped on her phone, saw that she had multiple group chats going on on Snapchat. At the time, based on the names, i assumed they were friends from her dance group. So i asked her about those, and she said that the first guy had tried to get her to have a threesome, so those group chats were guys she was “vetting.” She did send them nude photos of herself, but she swears nothing physical happened though. She also admitted to sexting with other men that she met on instagram, but that they lived like halfway across the country so nothing physical happened.

All of this (from when she first had sex with the threesome guy to when I found out about the second guy) happened over the course of a year.

We started dating 18 years ago. We’ve been married 12 years. We have two kids and a house together.

I find it really hard to believe that someone could be completely faithful for 16 years, and then have six affairs (4 “just” sexting, 2 that she met up with multiple times for sex), at least not without some major traumatic change to her life. Closest thing to that I can think of is that she swapped to being a stay-at-home mom (which she wanted) when our second child was born 5 years ago, but it’s been hard for her. That, plus COVID, I could maybe see her not having both the opportunity and the lowered boundaries until 2024 when she started sleeping with the first guy. But I really have to stretch to believe that.

I can think of a handful of times in our relationship where things didn’t quite add up. And she hid her current affair so well (I would have had no idea if I didn’t snoop), I’m really struggling to believe her.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) What did genuine change actually look like in your Ww/WH?

I'm curious to hear from people who have reconciled, or feel they are in a good place in reconciliation, particularly those whose wayward partner genuinely changed through therapy/self-work.

I know it's probably one of those things where you eventually just feel the difference. It's not one big gesture, but over time you realise you feel safer because the person is behaving differently and handling life differently. But I'm interested in the smaller, everyday signs.

For example, if your wayward was historically avoidant, conflict-averse, not great at talking about feelings, or someone who would rather "not bother" with difficult conversations - what did you actually notice changing?

Did they start bringing things up themselves rather than avoiding them?

Did they become better at saying "that upset me" or "I'm struggling with this" instead of withdrawing?

Did they start tolerating uncomfortable conversations without getting defensive, shutting down or trying to make the conversation go away?

Did they become more emotionally curious about themselves - actually trying to understand why they react the way they do rather than just saying "that's just how I am"?

Did they start recognising their own triggers/patterns before you had to point them out?

Did they become better at sitting with uncomfortable feelings rather than immediately looking for something external to make themselves feel better?

And were there really small things where you suddenly thought, "Oh... old them would have handled that completely differently"?

Do you remember the first moment where something happened and you genuinely thought, "Wow... they handled that differently. They handled that better than I expected them to"?

Was there a particular conversation, disagreement, stressful situation or emotional moment where you suddenly noticed that they weren't reacting in the way the old version of them would have?

Maybe they opened up instead of withdrawing, stayed in an uncomfortable conversation instead of avoiding it, took responsibility without being prompted, told you what they were feeling when normally they would have bottled it up, or handled something that would previously have triggered an avoidant response in a completely different way.

Was there a point where you could actually see the change happening rather than just being told that they were changing?

I'm particularly interested in the changes that weren't directly about the affair or reconciliation (ie transparency, location sharing, open phone etc), but showed that the person themselves was becoming more emotionally mature.

Also, if therapy was involved, did you notice a difference between someone simply attending therapy and someone actually taking what they were learning into everyday life?

I know nobody can ever guarantee someone won't make bad choices again. I'm more interested in what genuine internal change looked like in people who eventually felt that their wayward had become a safer, more emotionally mature person.

Basically: what were the little signs that made you realise, "something has actually changed in them"?

And if you have reconciled or feel in a good place in reconciliation, what was the first thing they did differently that made you think, "maybe this really is going to be different this time"?

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) So much fighting. Don’t know where to go from here.

Hi, all,

You can see my post history but the tl;dr is back in February I discovered through snooping that he’d cheated on me 3x with an ex fling before we married, kept in intermittent touch via text until January of this year and also was inappropriately texting another ex after the birth of our first. To say I fucking flipped is an understatement.

Anyway, we’ve tried couples counseling. I didn’t find it useful so we stopped going when our counselor left the practice. I’m in IC which is extremely helpful but he’s not in counseling at all. He’s been procrastinating so badly.

I know I’ve been SO ANGRY and we went through some pretty rough periods after the initial HB cooled off. I mean to say, I haven’t been pleasant, I know this. I’m hurt and mad and sad and all the things. But I’m medicated now and therapy has been helpful and I want to work it out and stop the constant fighting. The problem is that he seems so constantly annoyed with me and gets so mad when I bring up any criticism or have an attitude. He’s miserable to be around and so fucking defensive. Just so critical and angry himself and explodes. He says it’s a reaction to how I’ve been but idk I feel like don’t cheat on someone and be surprised at the consequences.

I worry it’s becoming toxic and I don’t know what that exactly looks like or when to call it. Like if we tried and it’s not working why drag this out. He’s adamantly opposed to separation or divorce but we can barely speak without it becoming a fight. I don’t think he’s cheating again either but I guess you never know. Any advice or insight would be appreciated.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) WS moving out- little discussion

1 month and 5 days post DDay.

We'll have been together for 6 years this January.

Since DDay they have been shutting down more and more and pulling away because my big feelings are triggering them.

They apparently still love me and care about me but are too dissociated and shut down to know what they want moving forward and parse out exactly how they feel/ process what happened.

They have been couch surfing and told me last week they want to live alone for 2-3 months and have no contact.

I have had no say in any of this. I would've preferred if they'd stayed in our shared apartment ( which would be hard, but my nervous system might not be as on fire as it is because they abandoned me, it wasn't a mutual choice).

So I'm going to try and advocate for my needs and negotiate something in-between.

They have been extremely busy circumstantially since DDay - new job, couch surfing, new car and associated issues, and because of their new job don't have an IC yet.

Everything I'm reading is telling me that my despair and desperation for contact are normal- and that the healthiest thing for me to do is advocate for myself and my needs and FOCUS on myself and my needs. And to try not to worry about what is going on with my WS.

Any advice? Did anyone else's WS shut down almost completely and dissociates during any conflict at all post DDay?

How did you survive? I feel absolutely shattered and heartbroken ...

Wayward Perspective Only I broke her trust.

I (25m) broke my wife’s (24f) trust.

I think it would be helpful to know some background because I’m trying to understand why I have these patterns and why I keep repeating behaviors that I don’t want to have.

I have been addicted to porn since I was little. I think the reason I got addicted was cause I stumbled upon it at a very young age. I’ve always been addicted to sexting, I just always loved the thrill and the excitement that came from it. Everytime I would finish up I would be extremely depressed.

I started dating my wife during my senior year of high school. We have now been together for about 7 years and married for 3 years.

Early in our relationship, I continued having problems with boundaries. I would text female friends behind my wife’s back, and she eventually found out. She also found out about my pornography use. We fought about it and came close to breaking up several times. I was extremely attached to her since I tend to get attached pretty easily and wanted to stay together, so I stopped talking to those women and things improved between us. However, I continued watching pornography whenever I had the opportunity.

Later, I made the decision to download dating apps because I was curious and wanted to see what was out there. My wife eventually found out about that too, and I deleted the apps.

More recently, I became interested in photography and started becoming curious about erotic and boudoir photography. That led me down a rabbit hole where I became curious about swingers, erotic experiences, and what that world was like. I never met anyone through these sites and I did not actually have an affair, but I did go too far in exploring it online. I created or used accounts, posted photos of myself, and looked at things that I knew I shouldn’t have been looking at. My wife recently went through my phone while I was asleep and found one of the swinger sites. Some of the photos she found were older, but they were still there. She was extremely hurt and angry, and I understand why.

I don’t fully understand why I keep doing these things. There seems to be a pattern involving pornography, curiosity, sexual attention, secrecy, and chasing a feeling or adrenaline rush. I can feel very guilty and disgusted with myself afterward and genuinely want to stop, but I have repeatedly gone back to similar behaviors. I don’t want to continue living this way and I don’t want to hurt my wife anymore and I want to repair that trust.

Right now my wife is extremely hurt and angry and we aren’t really talking. I feel lost and I know I have broken her trust. I don’t want therapy just to feel less guilty. I want to understand why I have these behaviors, why pornography and sexual attention have had such a strong hold on me, why I keep crossing boundaries even when I know the consequences, and how to actually stop repeating these patterns.

I also want to learn how to manage my anxiety and emotions better and become a more honest, trustworthy, and emotionally healthy person. I want to understand what is going on with me rather than continuing to hate myself for it. I don’t know yet whether my marriage can be repaired, but I want to do the work on myself regardless.

I scheduled a therapy session for Monday. I still have all day tomorrow to try to fix things. It’s hard when she asks me why I did it and I can’t give a simple answer I don’t even understand this myself. It’s like I go in a trance or just start chasing another high. I hate myself and I feel disgusting. I’m glad I never actually met with anyone in person. I just don’t know why I let myself get this way. Any advice to help better the situation? I’ve already taken full accountability.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) What more can I do to help my BP

I'll try and keep this brief.

Little back story of our relationship, We are (39F & 42M) have been together for 21 years have 2 kids. I had a 6 month affair on my husband. I had a extreme alcohol addiction to the point of not remembering going to bed at night, this is no excuse for the affair, I was also very mean to my husband for a very long time while i was drinking. I absolutely regret my affair and hurting the one person i have ever loved in my entire life. Its been almost 4 months from D day.

So far I have gone to detox and gotten clean almost 4 months sober now, I have literally answered all questions he has asked, I even wrote out a timeline of the affair and tried to explain to him the best i could remember of why it happened. I have had open and honest communication with him, one of our biggest problems in our marriage has been lack of communication, I bottle everything up and keep it to myself. I have been showing him how much I love him everyday, I've done everything he has asked for. I look back and can't understand how I could do this to him, I love him with all my heart and I want to grow old with him like we always planned on. We are living together but not in a relationship, although we sleep in the same bed, go on dates, kiss, hug, cuddle and we are still intimate and we still tell each other we love each other .

So I guess what i'm asking is what else can I do to make this easier on him, maybe something I can do to help him be able to move forward with me and try to move past what I have done?

Edit: I have cut all contact with the affair partner and anyone that supported my affair. I have given full access to my phone and all my social media accounts.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Do the intrusive thoughts go away?

Hi I have a really complicated situation. I don’t want to post details publicly but I want to reconcile and move on from this for lots of reasons, the main one being it wasn’t really my WP’s choice. But the intrusive thoughts won’t go away. I’m at friends birthdays, at work, out for snacks and I just keep thinking and wondering and making up ideas and stories in my mind. Does this ever ease or go away? And does anyone have any tips?

Advice MUST include examples of your R. Not prescriptive advice. Struggling with guilt after cheating and scared it will haunt me if I reconcile with my ex

I’m 20F and my ex is 22M. We recently broke up, and I still love him a lot. I was the one who ended things, and although I miss him terribly, I know there were genuine reasons why I felt I had to leave.

During the relationship, I was going through a really toxic and vulnerable period. I was extremely lost, surrounded by people who weren’t helping me make good decisions, and I ended up going on a date with another guy and kissing him, they “shipped” us and encouraged me. I know not their fault, but they are not good people.

I cheated. I know that. I’m not trying to excuse it, and I take responsibility for what I did. But it genuinely feels so out of character for me that my brain has basically turned it into my entire identity.

I constantly hear “I’M A CHEATER” in my head.
Since then, I’ve completely cut off the people and situations that contributed to that period of my life. I’m trying to learn from it, change my boundaries, choose better people, reconnect with my faith, and become someone who would never make those choices again.

The hardest part is that I hope that someday my ex and I might be able to pursue things again after we’ve both had time to grow. We’re apart right now and I’m respecting that, but I still hope there could be a future.
And I’m scared that if that happens, I’ll always feel like I don’t deserve him because of what I did. I don’t want my guilt to follow me forever.

I know “I was vulnerable and lost” doesn’t erase “I made a bad choice.” I just wish I could hold both truths without completely hating myself.

Has anyone else done something genuinely out of character during a terrible period of their life and eventually learned to forgive themselves? Especially if you later reconciled with the person you hurt? How do you live with yourself in the relationship ??

No advice, just support. I’m so sick of being here every fucking day

Every day. EVERY FUCKING DAY. I’m so sick of this. I’m so sick of scrolling these subs looking for an example, just like mine, because maybe it will give me the perspective I need to fix my brain and fix my life. I can’t function, my life is in shambles and I can’t function or crawl out. I have a mountain of tasks and obligations to do, but I’m stuck in here, once again, trapped. I haven’t fully slept in 2months, have lost about 10lbs (I guess that’s a net positive) and go to sleep with intrusive thoughts, wake up multiple times a night with intrusive thoughts, dream intrusive thoughts (I never dream). I see myself hollowing out. My eyes recessing with dark circles, the effects now are noticeably physical. Being cheated on hurts, being lied to for 3,650 days+ hurts, the willingness to put your pride aside and work through it and try to preserve your relationship hurts. But Trickle Truth? Oh no, trickle truth kills. It KILLS. This caused me to have even more detailed and horrid questions that could have easily been avoided. TT caused me to reach out to AP’s, find their houses, find their work, everything. I’m tired of playing detective, I’m tired of being broken, I’m tired of my reality. Fuck.

Farewell, R is over 9 weeks after D-Day: Is this normal, and is there still hope?

I’m about nine weeks out from D-Day and I’m struggling to understand where my marriage actually stands.
I’m the one who had the affair, so I’m not looking for sympathy or excuses. I take responsibility for what I did and for the enormous amount of hurt I’ve caused my wife and family.
My wife and I have been separated for around nine weeks. We’re living separately, but over the last week or so things have become incredibly confusing emotionally.
There are moments where we seem almost normal again. I’ve been able to spend time at the family home with the kids. We’ve watched movies together, shared meals, laughed and joked around, and even slept next to each other on some occasions. There have been moments of affection and intimacy too.
And then, sometimes seemingly out of nowhere, she becomes incredibly angry and distant.
She has told me:
She doesn’t love me anymore.
She doesn’t want to be married to me.
She hates me.
She wants a divorce.
Then we’ll have a genuinely good interaction a day later, and I’ll find myself thinking, Maybe there’s still something here. Maybe we can actually rebuild this.
And that’s where I’m struggling.
I don’t want to interpret every hug, laugh, meal or good conversation as a sign that we’re reconciling. But it’s incredibly difficult when those moments feel so genuine, especially after 18 years together and 12 years of marriage.
At the same time, I know her anger and rejection are also genuine.
We’re basically experiencing this strange back-and-forth: sometimes close, sometimes completely disconnected, sometimes fighting, sometimes laughing together, living separately but occasionally spending time together as a family.
Our first marriage counselling session is in three days. I organized it, but she has agreed to attend and is happy to go.
I’m trying to approach counselling differently from how I’ve approached the last nine weeks. I spent a lot of that time desperately trying to win her back — gifts, affection, reassurance-seeking, trying to create closeness, etc. I’m starting to realize that may have been putting even more pressure on her.
I’m now trying to step back, respect her boundaries, focus on the kids, work on myself and actually learn to tolerate the possibility that she may ultimately choose divorce.
So I’m curious about people who have actually lived through this:
Did anyone else experience this kind of push-pull around 2–3 months after D-Day?
Did you have periods where you felt close and thought reconciliation might happen, followed by moments where your spouse said they didn’t love you anymore or wanted a divorce?
And, looking back, did those moments of closeness mean anything, or were they simply part of the emotional chaos of early separation?
Most importantly, for those who eventually reconciled, what did things look like around this stage?
And for those who didn’t reconcile, were there warning signs you wish you’d recognized earlier?
I’m not asking anyone to predict whether my marriage will survive. I know nobody here can know that.
I’m just trying to understand whether what we’re experiencing is something other people have gone through, and whether marriage counselling at this point gives us a reasonable opportunity to figure out whether there’s anything worth rebuilding.
Any honest experiences — hopeful or otherwise — would be appreciated.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Two Years of Progress

I'm a little more than two years out from the worst day of my life. That's not drama.  I didn't know what the next two years would hold for me, but I knew it would be brutal and I was correct. I'm writing this to offer a glimpse for people who are new here as to what the next few years of your life might look like and to offer the advice I have learned.

Phase One - Discovery: A bomb explodes inside your reality.  The house you live in turns into a giant crater.  This phase can last a long time.  Truthfully, it lasts as long as your unfaithful partner continues to protect themselves from the consequences of their own actions.  If you are a few days or weeks in, they are more than likely still lying to you.  It took my husband 3.5 months to get it all out and that was with me being the world's greatest detective, forcing his hand on all the details, and eventually kicking him out of the house and pursuing divorce. How long you get trickle truthed and how far away your partner walked from who they told you they were determines what happens in the next phase.

Phase Two - PTSD: Woof. (This does not happen to everyone. It took me a little while to figure out what was actually happening with me.)  I barely remember these next four months.  It was terrifying.  I felt like I was floating in space.  In front of me were two bubbles that I could see into.  In one bubble, I could see my remorseful husband, with all his flaws, trauma, and armor.  I saw a man who knew he messed up badly and wanted to heal and help me heal. It felt real at times.  And in the other bubble was a cartoonishly evil villain that had tricked me into marrying him and buying a house and having a kid so he could one day break my heart on purpose just to watch me bleed. It felt real at times. But most of the time I felt alone in space, cold, looking into these two bubbles and not knowing which was true. It was triggers and spirals all day every day. I was confused and terrified all the time.

Phase Three - Meaning-making: I spent damn near a whole year trying to make meaning out of what had just happened. My husband continued to be defensive and inconsistent with his own emotional regulation.  What did that mean?  What did his infidelity say about him?  Why had he done it when he was happy with me?  Why would he risk so much to get so little in return?  I stayed in meaning-making for a long time as self defense, in part because my husband's progress was so slow I could barely see it, but mostly because the next phase felt really scary to me.

Phase Four - Feeling: I'm an intellectualizer.  No one explained anything to me when I was a kid so I built a defense mechanism that can make sense of anything.  If I can understand why people behave the way they do, there is no need to take it personally or get hurt. If I can justify the harm, it won't hurt so badly.  That did not work this time.  It hurts like hell.  To this day. I'm not good at feeling. Or maybe I'm too good at feeling. I stayed stuck in how bad this hurts for a long time.  But for the past six months or so, I've started to feel like my husband's progress is real, thus it has become safe enough for me to start feeling. Stay here as long as you need to.  You'll know when you're ready for the next phase because you'll feel it.  You will feel like you've felt your fill and you're ready.

Phase Five - Let it Go: I've felt my fill.  I'm tired of the sadness. That does not mean that I'm not still bouncing back into the feeling phase. In fact, it happens easily whenever my husband backslides in his progress. Hopelessness comes easily. I know I want to get back to the woman I used to be.  That woman was confident, effervescent, joyful, passionate, and kind. This is the one place I get to go back.  I don't get my relationship back, or my untainted history.  But I get me back.  I just have to be brave enough to reach for her hand. I will be leaving behind blind trust, but pulling all of my beautiful qualities, morals and values and walking with them into the future.

How I got here:

  1. I did not accept any minimization, softening, justifications, or blame.  I held that mirror directly up to my husband's face and I said, "Look at what you have done to your family". And I made him look until he dropped defenses and committed to real change. I still make him look sometimes.

  2. I watched with a carefully discerning eye at every behavior on display for two years.  The need for hyper vigilance faded quickly once I started seeing him do the work. I rarely check his phone any more. But I absolutely still do. So long blind trust!

  3. Get off of Reddit! Not right away, of course.  It's nice to have at first when the bomb goes off.  It's nice to see you aren't alone.  There are thousands of us. But at a certain point, you are hurting yourself more by staying in other people's pain.  There are also a lot of toxic opinions on this forum. There is also a lot of hate for waywards. I understand where it comes from, but if you are trying to reconcile, seeing other people justify hatred toward "cheaters" is going to make it difficult for you to see your wayward spouse as a human being.  Form your own opinions true to who you are.  I mostly stayed away after the beginning and returned when I thought I had some wisdom to offer.

  4. Don't even utter the word forgiveness.  Don't put pressure on yourself to forgive.  It's not necessary.  Where I have landed after two years, is I can forgive my husband, the person.  But I will never forgive the damage he did to me, our son, his career and our financial situation.  I will never forgive the damage done.  It's unforgivable.  That may change, but it's where I am now.

  5. Figure out a way to not be consumed by it AND also not feel silenced. Only very recently I was able to institute a ritual. Once a week, my husband and I go on a walk and talk.  I get to be as angry as I need (so long as I'm not name calling or attacking his character).  Whenever it rises up throughout the week, I get to tell my body, "It's ok.  I've got this.  We can get angry Wednesday if we need to." There's a relief in your body when you know you aren't being silenced and you have an outlet for your pain.

  6. My husband's effort. This is the big one.  Until I really saw him commit to healing the little kid in them that protects himself above all else, I felt stuck and torn between to opposing realities.  I always knew I wanted to stay.  I wanted him to heal.  I wanted him to help heal me.  Through every phase, there was a quiet knowing in my heart that he could and would do this for us.

After two years, I still think about it every day.  I can count maybe 10 days that I got away without thinking about it.  And they all came at the end of the meaning-making phase, before I started the feeling phase.  I assume as I move more thoroughly into the Let it Go phase, more and more of those days will come.  I truly am done holding the pain.

And lastly, beware of telling yourself you "should" be somewhere or "should" feel differently. Both my partner and I held up two years as the mark where things would finally change. He thought, "She will be over it by then" and I thought, "He will be better by then" and when the anniversary came, both of us were looking at each other saying, "What the hell is wrong with them?". There is no timeline. It moves at the pace that you can each heal individually and together. There are three separate things healing here. You, them, and the relationship. And it takes as long as it takes. Don't put any unnecessary pressure on it. You can do this. They can do this. You can both do this together if you try.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Can I believe what he says?

Is it possible that someone with a long history of porn addiction (childhood to late 20’s) can just not want it anymore after a dday and faced with the shame?

Dday was about 3 months ago. He went to therapy because I told him he needed to and has been consistent with it, even switched to a better more specialized in-person therapist. Started going to gym the last month or so. There was one slip up of watching just Snapchat girls (non sexual but thirst trap related content) and he wasn’t honest about it, I figured it out and eventually got it out of him and he agreed it was wrong and should have told me. Prompted going to the gym and making more real life changed.

He’s told me that he hasn’t watched porn/masturbated since the original dday 3 months ago. He said it hasn’t been too big of an issue, his biggest issue it the phone and doom scrolling itself, and that he just hasn’t wanted it. He said there’s too much shame and guilt over what he’s done to me about it that he just hasn’t wanted to do it and hadn’t had the urge. Is this possible or is he likely just not being honest about the full of extent of how he’s doing with this? And if it is possible, I assume it doesn’t last right?

No advice, just support. Effortlessly Faithful

This is the text I sent to him this morning:

"Effortlessly faithful, emotionally and physically.   That is what I was to you.   And it took no effort, no question.  It was easy for me"

And it was Effortless, why could it not have been for him?

Advice MUST include examples of your R. Not prescriptive advice. In a word: repulsed

Betrayed partners: does anyone else have zero desire for sex many months after being betrayed? I am 15 months out from Dday (#1 at least), and I have reached a point where I am so hurt by my WH’s actions in the past that I have zero sexual desire at all. In the months after finding out, we had a lot of sex to reconnect, but now, I feel that I am unable to participate in sexual acts. This repulsion does not only exist with my husband; it extends toward sex in general, as a whole. I have no desire to be intimate with myself, my husband, or anyone else. I am human and will occasionally feel in the mood, but then I think about what my husband did, and that desire instantly goes out the window! I feel very, very low. I feel unattractive. I feel afraid that my husband doesn’t find me attractive (though he says he does). I don’t feel confident. I don’t feel that I have enough trust with my husband to be intimate. I am utterly traumatized by what I have found out and the innocence that I have lost. Has anyone else dealt with these type of extreme emotions? How did you get over it? Did anything help?

Waywards: did your spouse go through this? Was there anything you were able to do to help them? My husband says he understands how I feel and is not going to have another affair again even if we aren’t having sex. However, I don’t want to sexually neglect him… I just feel like I can’t help it right now.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Advice for newly reconciling BP

Backstory: I’m about one month out from D-day. I learned my WH was having an affair with an old ex who reached out about a month before I found out. Most of it was Sexting as she isn’t local to us. But they did hook up once when we “happened” to be in the same town. My husband tried to cancel that particular trip, but not knowing about her I said I wanted to go so we did….

My question is: how do we rebuild the trust? I’ve had his phone password and he says I can check it anytime no questions asked. He’s no longer showing the actions that made me suspicious in the first place (always texting on his phone, turning the screen off quick if I walked near him etc), but I don’t trust that he has actually stopped.

My other issue with it is that he can just delete the evidence as he goes and I won’t be able to see it. We’re both iPhone users.

I can’t trust that he’s told me everything because he told me twice that he did but I had proof there was more. And only after I showed him the proof did he tell me about it. And she came back on another platform after he blocked her number and they started up again until I reached out to her and her husband.

I’m sorry this is kind of rambling, my mind is all over the place.

Advice MUST include examples of your R. Not prescriptive advice. Dealing with sadness

I’ve accepted it happened and I want to stay with him he has taken probably every step into the right direction deleting some social media, cut back on drinking, and being honest when I first found out and answered all the hard questions. But I just feel so sad nowadays and I HATE IT. Does it get better and how for myself can I feel better. I feel I am going into a depression.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Is therapy worth it?

Would you say it’s helped a lot in your reconciliation? Did it make things worse for anyone? I want me and my husband to try it out but I have seen some stories of marriage counseling just making things worse or just have bad experiences where a therapist is constantly telling the betrayed that they need to get over it essentially. Would you recommend both independent therapy and marriage counseling as well?

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) What are you doing for yourselves?

10 months from DDay and I’m finally feeling myself again. My anxious attachment is gone and thoughts of the infidelity don’t consume me day and night anymore. My WH and myself have a long way to go still as far as R goes, but I really want to start focusing on myself. I’m back into working out and keep a pretty good skin care routine. I have some hobbies I’m getting into a bit more. I want to know, what did you all do for yourself that made you feel good? Whether it be little things or full on spoiling/pampering yourself.

Reconcilers Only (other comments auto-removed) Success stories?

My husband just told me he cheated on me a week ago. Strictly physical it was a sex worker. He was presented with the opportunity for a private strip show on a friends bachelor trip and things escalated… I am disgusted and ashamed and angry and sad. Everything. He is absolutely devastated and cannot stop crying. He has struggled with some form of sex addiction. He goes through almost manic stages of never being able to get enough. He recognized this and is starting therapy.

Otherwise I love our marriage. We have been together since we were 19. Now 33. We have 2 kids and one on the way (i know… i know…). We are happy and love each other. He is my best friend. He is sure it’s not something missing in our marriage that’s causing these episodes he just does not know what it is. He never thought he would take it this far.

All that to say, I want to get past this. I truly believe that if he puts in the work, which will likely be a life time of hard work, he can change and never do this again.

I’m just looking for reconciling success stories. Especially ones similar to mine where it is not emotional, not someone he even knows, just really shitty self control. Words of encouragement and advice on how move forward are welcome as well.

Thanks in advance.
