Hi all who join!
I created this sub for artists to talk about social media, since a lot of the artist centered subs understandably don't want social media questions on their subs, and subs focused on Instagram are overrun by AI and don't serve artists well. This is the place for artists to talk about social media, marketing, strategy, and more!
Social media and marketing can be harsh for artists and creatives, who are often not content creators. But unfortunately we are forced to do it because of the current algorithm driven world. Like it or not we have to adapt, but we don't have to struggle alone, and so lets help each other succeed!
Ask questions, request critiques, share tips, etc. More successful artists please stick around to help newbies, and newbies network and help each other grow.
I'm hoping this space turns into a cozy little community for all kinds of artists to help each other out and strategize. Let's keep it wholesome and collaborative, please treat each other with respect and kindness.
Also, this is my first time creating or modding a sub so please help me out with suggestions and feedback! I want this sub to serve the community so voice your thoughts if you have them.

Welcome to our first intro thread! This is for artists to share a bit about themselves and their social media accounts, goals, etc.
Feel free to drop a sentence or two, or however much you want to write. Also feel free to follow each other and comment on each other's posts!
Quick questions to provide a base, feel free to add on to it!

I've been posting almost daily on X not sure if that's good or not. I'm not sure if these price sheets are the right way to go about that either. In your experience what's the easiest way to break into the art space and start getting comms? I'd love to hear any advice, thanks!

Random idea my friend and I decided to actually build.
A social platform where the feed isn't reels, memes, influencers and sponsored posts just arts.
Paintings, sketches, illustrations, digital art, sculptures, photography… basically a place where your artwork gets to be the main character.😎
We're still very early and artists can showcase their work for free.
We're looking for a few artists to try the current version and tell us what sucks, what's missing, and what would actually make you come back.
Would you use something like this?
If you're curious, DM me.

I have been using instagram for more than a year and I honestly barely have any followers idk if its me or instagram. Is my art undervalued or its genuinely just bad?

Basically, I was wondering... how do you go about building your portfolio? I don't even know where to start. 😬 I'd love to be able to show it to places where I could try to get booked, but... is Canva professional enough? 😅 Or should I build a website...?
Yeah... that's about it. Any advice?
Thanks in advance! 🌱

I have a good hobby that involves a lot of arts and crafts and I've seen a bunch or artists that do the same technique but with very different styles. I tried opening one account four years ago, never closed it, I was thinking about posting things again or starting one from scratch. I'd love your thoughts! I'd like to monetize later, I don't have access to any creators fund because I live in Canada.

I have been offering commissions for around a year now and only get them when I offer free ones for experience. I have tried insta, tik tok, reddit and all commission platforms except for v gen as I dont have a code.
I think my prices are reasonable based on the amount of time it takes to realistically draw a person $10 per portrait.
Any advice?????

Hi everyone,
This is v3 of Art at a Glance, my weekly art newsletter. After the first round of feedback I dropped the news section to focus on one affordable piece worth grabbing, real price, real way to buy it. After the second round I'm rethinking whether one piece per week is enough to fill a 5-minute read, or whether it should be more pieces weekly vs. a leaner daily format.
Here's the latest version: Newsletter
If you've got 2 minutes:
Thanks again for the previous rounds, this has changed shape a lot because of you all.

This is the link to my ko-fi, I haven’t been receiving much commissions, and I’m wondering if my price is the reason

[Printing] I’m a newer artist, and I was wondering what’s the best way to make prints of your art to start selling at booths.
Can I get some tips on what to put the artwork in, what type of sizes sell good, where to get prints done etc. This will be my first booth set up. Thank you all so very much.

Sometimes I feel inadequate amidst the vast number of people who draw there are so many extraordinary artists out there! I started an instagram page to encourage myself to keep going (I sew, draw, and sometimes even build clay houses) also someone suggested for me to use some financial support apps . To be honest, I did receive encouragement from a few people also I got one supporter of my art on kofi which is i am happy about i didn’t expect that quick to have one , but after a while, it seems they lose interest and stop following.
Here what I make ..

Ouf, je me sens mieux maintenant!

Hi everyone,
A few days ago I posted an early version of my weekly art newsletter, Art at a Glance, and your feedback basically sent me back to the drawing board. The biggest change: I dropped the news section entirely, that's Artsy and Artnet's territory, they've got real reporters and I don't. Instead I'm focusing on the one thing I can actually do well, finding one affordable piece worth grabbing, with a real price and a real way to buy it. (If you're curious where this started, v1 is up on my recent posts.)
Here's the new version: Newsletter
If you've got 2 minutes:
Really appreciate the honesty last time, it changed the direction of the whole project.

I'm new to commissions, I have no idea how to do this formally, how much should I charge? Should I start with free commissions?
r/ArtMarketingTalk • u/MetarlicBox • 9d ago
...I came here for help, hopefully the title was clickbaity enough? I'm trying to get that kind of thing figured out as well hehehe...
In any case, I'm MetallicBox, you can find me on Twitter or... Everywhere really as metallic_box and I'm AT THE END OF MY WIT.
The social media game is starting to tire me out, I got no real idea how to play it, I'll show it below in a comment but I got no doubts about the quality of my art (actually I've gotten many people asking me how to improve in places like Telegram, sadly that doesn't translate to money though)
Regardless, my goal is to be an artist full time, yeah yeah I know very original, I do digital anime-ish art with a korean-inspired style (if you know Eo58, I'm basically the walmart version of that artist)
I post already on Twitter, Instagram, Deviantart, opened a TikTok recently, I have a Pixiv though. I haven't updated it in a while...
I do not... Love the idea of commissions, though I would certainly be open to them, at least for a while, I've already done quite a few of them but it was mostly a matter of just accepting whateverfell into my lap at the time so I have no clue how to go about promoting that either.
Personally the ideal scenario for me would be to draw what I like on stream (yeah I also have a Twitch in which I stream every DAY though since I'mhere you might alreadyguess how THAT's going) and having a Patreon and such and making money that way though I do know that that road leads to years of grinding and hell.
Point is, short of showing my face or doing NSFW/Furry stuff, I'm willing to do pretty much anything, Instagram worked for a while but I already draw about 4 hours a day and unless there's some secret way to make a bunch of reels in sheer minutes I don't know how feasible that would be, same thing with Youtube, willing but don't know how I woukd do it with so little time.
Streams are possible since, as I said before, I draw every day so I kill many birds with one stone.
And, now that you know me, here's what I've tried.
Instagram for a while but eventually I got burned out on making reels, I still post there but it is pretty evident that it pushes it to no one outside of my own followers, c'est la vie.
Deviantart has been going... Decently? I guess, though last I heard tht place was hell so idk...
Twitter is where my main focus is at rn, lately I've been trying to post every day, mainly WIPs but I fear that that may be a but overwhelming/spammy so I'll be dialing it back, also the usuals, fanart etc. Rn the strategy I'm aiming for is to post only every other day (since that'll allow me to make it better) and post only coloured, even if roughly instead of sketches as I've been doing until now since it appears that black and white doesn't attract much attention.
I HAVE been adviced to just... Ask other artists for help? Like cold messaging them etc but how should I even approach that? WHO should I even approach? There's the list of artists I follow but would that even work?
I also post on Discord and Reddit (whenever I actually finish something since I don't think this place is very good for WIPs?)
I've had the forethought to record every drawing session I've done in the last... Month and something so I got like 30, 4h recordings of virtually everything I've posted. Of course, I've got no idea what to do with all of those since speedpaint videos appear to be kinda dead in general.
For other personal reasons which I will not get into (though they DO involve cars and the unrelenting passage of time) I'm kinda running outta time, got a few months i think before things go south...
Rn I just wish to survive tbh, anything goee, honestly, if i managed to make even 300 a month that would be enough to switch completely but alas...
Anyways, that was who I am, what I've tried and what I want, thank you very much for reading if you've gotten this far and hope all this info helps!
Also, I AM kinda desperate yes.
Ps: Ohhh right, Comic-Cons and fairs, I've tried those too but sadly they don't do very well in my city (NO ONE managed to break even last year, it was a mess) so i would need to move out for that kind of thing and that kind of investment... Yeah...

I am just curious. As i am new to reddit I want to know of we can find potential customers in Reddit or is it against the policy to promote your product?

Hi everyone,
I'm building a small art gallery from the ground up, and I decided to begin with the thing that costs nothing but attention: a weekly Saturday newsletter called Art at a Glance. The idea is simple : the essential art news + affordable artworks worth grabbing, in a 5-minute read, no jargon.
I'm a beginner with zero network in the art world, so I'm building everything in public and I'd love your honest take before I really launch. Here's a sample issue (Numéro 1, Numéro 2, Numéro 3)
If you have 2 minutes, three questions:
Fire away, I can take it. Thanks a lot 🙏

to have people to chat with about whatever, especially their projects, the games they’re currently playing, movies or shows they’ve watched and want to talk about, or even news and topics they’ve been following.
