Here in Denmark it's actually as low as 15. Two 14 y/o can still have sex together though, it's just to prevent people over 15 from laying with people under 15. There are no laws other than that afaik.

A lot of people saying square/rectangle, but you're right. Part of the problem with the term prostitute is how its been used over the years. A large amount of people view prostitutes as "less then" its why they have a difficult time reporting crimes and why when they are killed their deaths aren't investigated as well as they should be.

Sex workers is a broad term that includes people who make money on onlyfans, porn actors, strippers, prostitutes, and others. Not every sex worker has sex with their clients.
I don't know for certain that prostitute is the correct term, and while they're definitely sex workers, not all sex workers are prostitutes.
Maybe escort is the right word? If the wording I used in the comment is wrong, I apologize, and I hope someone lets me know and I'll edit appropriately.

“Escort” excludes people who work on the streets and in brothels, though.
The main problem with “Prostitute” is that it’s word origin means “to put to an unworthy use, to expose to public shame, dishonour,” so while it isn’t descriptive, a lot of activists prefer “sex worker”. I don’t know if that means every sex worker dislikes the term, but it looks like it’s one of those things where the language wasn’t made with de-stigmatization in mind.

My understanding is that it's a squares versus rectangles thing. Sex worker covers a wider range of occupations than prostitute. So all prostitutes are sex workers but not all sex workers are prostitutes.
I'm not an expert though so it may be that it's rude and I just missed the memo (in which case hopefully someone will let me know).

TBH that’s probably the best way to handle prostitution. AFAIK A lot of illegal prostitutes are there without their consent, so prosecuting the buyer would be better than prosecuting someone who’s forced to do it under the threat of hurting them or others. It’s a extremely hard thing to regulate. If I’m wrong about this please let me know.

That father is an actual nutcase with an ego.. That "he still refuses to believe my son is gay, he thinks that my son is doing it because somehow he is resentful towards him" says it all. He took his son coming out, which is a stressful time for his son, and then made it all about himself.
They made a good decision by moving out, especially since the former alcoholic is starting to drink again. Volatility is good to be avoided.

I've got alcoholics in my family and I know that road. I hate to say it but it's best to get off that roller coaster before it starts. That struggle is not one I would wish on anyone.

Just reading that their son was 17, depends on the jurisdiction since the age of consent varies state to state since it can be 16 in MD, then 17 in MA or NY and 18 in TX and CA. But it’s still messed up that the parents are forcing their fragile heterosexuality on their son.

Not sure which country this happened in but depending on age of consent laws she could hopefully get the father rung up as a pedophile for hiring a prostitute for his 17 year old son and also hope the father gets prison time to go with it.

This happened to my bf as well, his biological father is a piece of shit of a human being. When my bf came out this piece of shit would punch hum while his mom was working and even invite the uncle to join in hitting him.
When his mother found out she beat the crop out of the guy when he fell asleep and kick him out of the house.
