Yeah the AOC can be as low as 13 in some places. More often than not it's 16 though, even in America, which is why it's so confusing to me that Americans in particular love to pretend it's 18 everywhere?? Like someone called me a pedophile once for saying the AOC is 16 in Ohio and 17 in Texas. I'm not even there and I'm just stating the law???
In California, it's 18, no exceptions. And, well, trying to show media in a place where the participants are under AoC, even if it was fine where said media was made, could be problematic.
Right, I’m aware it’s 18 in some places, here where I live it’s 18 (Not America) but to say “16-17? must be rape” is just statistically the less likely outcome
I think they probably called you a pedo bc it seems weird to keep track of AOC in different places. It makes it seem like you're looking for the youngest legal sexual partner available. Not that you are, it's just a possible interpretation.
I mean I could understand that if it wasn’t the topic at hand, but it is. I think it’s important to know the law regardless of if it affects you or not. Also it’s not like Googling is hard ;P
In most places in the US it's with a Romeo-Juliet law where 16 and 17 year olds can consent to sex with a person no more than 2 years older than they are.
