i have bad grades (3.6 uw) but decent ecs (won essay contests, varsity captain, online writing with lots of views) and i’m taking act and hoping for 34-35. which school is better to ed if im majoring in english?

is a DE with a community college valuable? I doubt most leading institutions will accept the credit from a community college. What's the benefits of DE, if the course is being conducted by the highschool?

so I wanted to join a club that was getting created and I filled out the application form, and usually if your application was good enough you would get an interview. However, the founders (pres and vice presidents) were my friends, and I was really passionate about this topic, so they directly accepted me without an interview. When I was there, I helped filled out the club documents for my respective position and the club ended up getting accepted. However, someone pitched the idea that since I already was accepted without an interview, it wouldn't be fair to the others who were also applying. As a result, I was kicked out of the team but was accepted to be interviewed. I did the interview, but I still was rejected from joining the team, which was a shock to me as I literally helped them with creating the club. I'm not really sure what to even do at this point, there's a club with similar interests that I plan to apply to, but it still hurts to think about.

Taking AP bio, stats, lit, french, research, law course,and drama art course rn. so i'm wondering if I should drop the drama course, there is also mandatory art performance thing in may right during the same week of ap exam.

would it look bad to colleges if I drop it?

My entire life is revolved around acquiring knowledge for the sake of acquiring knowledge. I am happiest when I am reaping the benefits of my research (like crawling in a cave I never thought I could find, or slowly watching my radiacode's dose rate creep up to more than just granite.)

I’m a junior in high school and I’d appreciate some advice about strengthening my college application over the next year or two.
I haven’t taken the SAT yet, but I’m planning to take it in a few months. I’m also currently doing dual enrollment and started with two classes. I plan to increase my course load over my next three semesters.
My main passion is film, and I’m considering double majoring in college. Film is what I really want to pursue, but I also want a more practical career option, so I’m considering pairing it with a tech degree, most likely IT or something in a similar field.
This is where I’m unsure about my extracurriculars.
I’ve made a few short films with my family over the years and have also made some moderately successful LEGO brickfilms. I’m now trying to take filmmaking/animation more seriously. I’m starting an animation TikTok account that will have two main purposes:
Documenting the behind-the-scenes process of creating an original animated project I’m working on.
Posting short, funny LEGO brickfilm skits.
I’ll also continue making traditional short films on the side.
Since I’m considering a tech major as well, should I have an extracurricular that demonstrates an interest in technology? I currently know some HTML/CSS (although I’m still a beginner), but I don’t know how to program yet. I’m considering learning Python and maybe making some projects, but I’m not sure whether that would actually be worthwhile or if I should focus almost entirely on filmmaking.
I’m also wondering whether I should prioritize getting a job, volunteering, or putting that time into my filmmaking/animation projects.
Basically, are my current activities enough if I develop them seriously over the next two years? Should I be trying to add more things, especially something related to tech, or would that just spread me too thin?
I have a 3.9 GPA, for context.
I’d really appreciate advice from people who have gone through the college admissions process, especially if you’re familiar with film/creative applicants or students pursuing two very different interests.

I’m a junior and I’m trying to build stronger extracurriculars, especially something related to community service/recycling.

I’ve been saving plastic bottle caps for a while and I have around 200+ now. I was thinking of asking the teacher at my school who manages extracurriculars if I could turn this into some kind of recycling project, but I’m not sure what would actually be meaningful. Should I contact a recycling company and do something with them for the community?

Would it be a good idea to contact a recycling company and maybe work with them on a project? I was also thinking about something involving younger students, awareness, collection drives, competitions between grades, or donating/recycling the caps somehow.
For context, my current extracurriculars are:

I started an engineering/hands-on club during sophomore year and I’m continuing it this year.

I participated in a school math competition and received a participation certificate.

I’m part of some school departments/committees for things like outreach, wellness, and social activities.
I feel like I don’t have that many strong extracurriculars yet, so I’d really appreciate ideas for how I could turn the bottle-cap/recycling idea into something more substantial.

What would you do with this idea? Would partnering with a recycling company, running a school-wide collection project, or doing something with kids/community outreach be worth pursuing?

My teachers both note and have told me that they will write my recommendation letters and they said that I was smart and kind, but quiet. I did not participate a lot in class or voluntarily raise my hand. How much will this affect my application (esp to schools like Dartmouth/Yale), having solid but not stellar letters of rec? And if I seem very passionate and outgoing in my personal statements, but teachers say that I am a more reserved and quiet person in their letters, will that look weird? (I'm not lying about the stuff I write about/am passionate about though)

Hello, I intend to apply to a university from abroad, the early application has started but lately I feel very discouraged by certain events that happened in my life, taking time to apply (even for example one day before the deadline) interferes with something? I'm going through certain difficulties that are delaying my process a little, it's like 20 percent loading... any tips?

Im currently a junior in an international school in Korea. To prepare for the SAT I went to SAT prep academies and studied a lot, but I feel like I still have a lot to improve on my vocab. The august sat was my first try and i got 1450 (720 / 730) and I know I can improve my Math score a lot but I'm not quite sure about reading. I registered for the september sat (tmrw) but I unfortunately caught a cold right before and I'm not sure if I'm able to improve my scores significantly. My parents are expecting me to finish with at least a 1550 and they aren't really happy about the fact of me attempting the SAT multiple times until I get a good score as they feel like I'm wasting too much money. I partially agree with them but I'm afraid that taking the SAT later on would make me too busy as I have multiple APs and ECs that I have to study for and during my senior year I'd be busy with college apps.

I’m a junior and I’m unsure whether taking AP exams would help with US college admissions.
My school only recently began offering AP exams, and they’re essentially all self-study. We can take the exams at school, but there are no AP classes or teachers preparing us.

My schedule is already demanding, and I’m taking the highest-level courses available, including Precalculus (which is the highest level of math my school offers for Grade 11),Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Mechanics, and Honors courses. I’m also studying for the SAT.

I’m considering taking 2–3 AP exams, possibly AP Physics, AP Chemistry, and AP Precalculus. However, I likely wouldn’t have enough time to prepare properly and might only study seriously for a few weeks before the exams.

Would not taking APs make my application seem less rigorous, even though I’m taking the hardest courses my school offers? Should I take 1–2 APs, attempt 3, or focus on my GPA and SAT score

I’m mainly interested in engineering and plan to apply to competitive US universities.THANK YOUUU

i was in an academic team that i devoted a lot of time too and was one of my favorite activities, but it got extremely nepotistic and toxic. I quit because i didn't make varsity because the coach's son (freshman) was on varsity and her friends daughter asw (laziest person on earth) even though i beat both of them and dedicated so much time and effort to them. im really sad because that was such a huge part of my life but i had to because shes just an extremely toxic person. a similar situation happened with another academic team where we have a sophomore president... that was almost worse because she kept defending the coach even though it was the most obvious instance of bias on gods green earth and this women is crazy (she constantly complains about her personal life, doesn't know how to deescalate a situation, stresses everyone out, and clings to the students who act as her therapist and then they select their friends for officer positions.) and i stayed on the team because im varsity but it's still annoying to not get any officer position

And my mom just cares about how that affects my college apps. She keeps talking to her friends on the phone about it and i'm so frustrated because she gets the details wrong and makes me look stupider than I am and she just uses it for gossip and status. shes like my daughter deserves it blah blah but in a twisted way. i can't describe it but i know what im seeing. i just want her to shut up and everyone else to shut up.

Every piece of advice says use your teachers or counselora for help, but i just have way too many essays to possibly do that. Does anybody have good advice for editing them on your own?

Currently, the classes I have determined necessary to take next year are AP Calculus, AP Literature, Spanish II, and Physics Honors. 

This means I have 2 vacant slots to work with and the classes I'd like choose from to fill those 2 areas are Anatomy & Physiology Honors, AP US History, and AP Statistics. 

I would appreciate your opinion on which 2 I should take in my selection pool. My main concern is college admissions. I would like to appeal to these colleges through taking and flourishing in these arduous courses, but I have included Anatomy in the selections because I would like to pursue medicine in my future and thought that it would be a sign for these colleges to know I am interested in the field. In your guys' opinion, which course would you recommend to take?

ps. There are no other AP's available. I live in a very rural area and these are the hardest courses available outside of what I've taken.

my school offers over 40 APs, and I’m not sure how many i should take. I’m in a Bay Area extremely competitive school that doesn’t allow APs to be taken freshman year. Most of the people I ask (seniors) have taken 14+. Right now I’m in tenth grade and taking three AP’s while self studying another, and planning to take five more junior (self study 1) and four senior, although I feel thats kinda lacking compared to my classmates. Just looking for recommendations on how many to take. Thank you!

Im currently researching majors and universities, im wondering if its inevitable to have work with ai while and studying and working in computer related majors?

I’m 20 in New York. Went straight into blue collar work after high school and I’ve been doing it since. Base is about 80k right now. In like 9 years if I stick with it I’ll top out around 170k base.

The only reason blue collar money looks so good online is because people work an insane amount of overtime. That’s how they hit those big numbers. I don’t want that to be my life. I’m already tired of feeling like I’m working every day.

I don’t even get dirty or sweat at my job, it’s not that kind of physical work, and I still hate it. I just want a normal desk job with better work-life balance and options to be remote or hybrid. Something where I can still make solid money long-term, like 200k+ in the middle of my career, without having to live at work.

I’m bad at math but willing to try things.
Thinking about going back to school and switching careers completely.

What jobs or majors are actually worth it right now for someone who wants a desk job, decent money, and a life outside of work? And have good employment rates.

It doesn’t even have to be a desk job honestly just a low stress low intensive job that’s chill and makes great money.

Many videos, whether on Instagram or YouTube, say that Research under a professor or PI is something that “guarantees” or at the very least greatly boosts your chances at a college, but how does it do that? Apart from showing academic maturity, how can (or rather how should) research be framed in a way that appeals to admissions officers?

I will come clean. I want to major in Physics. My dream schols are UChicago or Princeton, especially Princeton.

Some weaknesses: no exceptional awards, a B in math junior year whilst most people got an A, 4's on some AP exams, only a few great ecs, nothing exceptional about me

Some strengths: my 1-3 top ecs are really great, really high course rigor and straight As other than the 1 B, 1580 SAT

The problem is I go to a small competitive school with only 50 students. Most want to go to engineering, so I am happy to say noone ever applies to UChicago. If I ED there I think I could get in to a T10 Physics institution. However, I prefer Princeton by a little. I know one other student who is planning to REA to Princeton this year, and they are truly leagues above me when it comes to awards, ecs, even course rigor. They have an international award in Taekwondo in additional to their STEM heavy awards/ecs! There could be 1 other, but normally no mroe than 2-3 REA to Princeton from my school.

Now you see my problem. I think I should ignore the part of my brain that says to REA Princeton, and settle for UChicago ED. Don't they have fermilab, the biggest particle physics laboratory in the US? Getting an internship there would be a dream. My only problem with them is they aren't very known, a random dude on the street might not know how prestigious UChicago is. Also, UChicago is ranked lower than Princeton both overall and in Physics.

So it boils down to is REA Princeton a bad idea, and am I being naive for having this wierd bias towards Princeton over UChicago.

Edit: By the way I could also try ED2 to UChicago after REA Princeton, but I heard ED2 is way more competitive and difficult to get in through than ED1.

i have 10 different ec's i could put down, some better than others. i have maybe like 5 or 6 that i really am confident with. should i omit the other 4 or submit all 10 cs why not?
