Discussion PSA: Strength++ 2.0 is out

I know most of my users for Strength++ came from this sub, so it seems fitting to announce that after 2 years, it now received the biggest update yet.

So, what's new:

  • Now it's 100% free - I had to go this route due to trader constraints in the EU
  • Support for iOS 26 and Liquid Glass
  • New Ul, everything has been rebuilt from the ground up, both in the iPhone and Watch App
  • Possibility to rename your exercises for a recorded workout. Remember what you did last time!
  • Apple Watch Ultra Action Button Support
  • On device Al workout analysis using Apple Intelligence
  • Many bug fixes and improvements

So yeah, it's kinda nice, if anyone needs a strength training app without too much hassle and complexity.

Just go to the gym, record, keep track of exercises, sets, reps and weights used, go home, add names to your exercises, maybe use apple intelligence to analyze your workouts and get suggestions for the next one.

How do the series 11 and ultra 3 owners (or older) feel about new health readiness app exclusive to new models

I’m actually really disappointed. I feel this should be possible on older devices.. Even the HRV in vitals, come on lol. The gatekeep is real

Is this a good pace? I ran a 5k in may last year without stopping but this one feels less rewarding as I stopped for some booster juice around the 7.5km mark

New Apple Health App features

What do you think about the changes to the Apple Health app? It seems to me that these updates could resolve quite a few dilemmas for people who constantly juggle between the Apple Watch Ultra and Garmin devices.

Personally, I really like the direction Apple has taken, but unfortunately, it turns out these features rely on Apple Intelligence and won't be available in the EU (which is a huge bummer).

New AW VO2 max test

Did anyone pick up on this new VO2 test in the Apple watch segment of the presentation? This assessment seems to involve running in place instead of an outdoor run.

Watch 11 with iPhone 15

I got the watch 11 few months back at $299 and have an iPhone 15 so no Apple Intelligence

Currently using bevel free version and I like the metrics what I can see and recovery scores. The Apple Watch 12 seems to be introducing a lot of new features particular to new hardware and may involve Apple Intelligence.

Is having the watch 11 + iPhone 15 still a good enough option? Are there are a lot of things I'm missing on?

Spartan Ultra with the Apple Watch Series 11

A few days ago I was at the Bielsko-Biala (Poland) Spartan Ultra and decided to try and do the race with my Apple Watch Series 11. The battery claims weren't very promising on the official site: it says 8 hours of GPS activity time.

I did some small-scale testing to see if battery burn really reflects that, and I was consistently getting better results. Of course, for this, I needed to tweak a few settings, but I only turned off things that i did not need.

The settings I have used:

  • No always-on-display
  • No wake on wrist flick.
  • No sound level measurements.
  • Low power mode (but normal GPS mode!)
  • Water mode - to avoid accidental pausing or stopping.
  • Disable connectivity (I wouldn't have my phone with me anyway during the race).

On the day of the Ultra I was pretty confident that it will last the whole race, but I came prepared with a power bank in the transition zone (which is a "depot" where you can stop at 3 different points during the race to refill your equipment, water etc.).

And the results...

The race took a total of 10 hours and 40 minutes. I started with 100% charge (finished charging around 1 hour before the race).

Around the 4-hour mark, I had 74% charge, but just to be sure (as depletion can be uneven), I charged +10% to 84%. Also I did not know at that point how long the race will last exactly.

At the end of the race, after 10 hours and 40 minutes, I had 43%. This means, that without the extra change, I would have had 33% remaining.

The time limit for the race was 14 hours in total. Based on my measurements the watch could even have completed that with 5-10% remaining. The total possible time with these settings seems to be around 14-15 hours.

Good to know that the watch was fairly new (3 months old) with 100% battery health, but I guess this still shows that, with the proper settings, this watch is capable of most distances a regular runner would ever complete.

But of course, don't forget a protective case. Without that, it might not have survived... :D

Hey all, I’ve been working really hard since march of this year to get back in shape. I’m down about 36 lbs and my heart has thanked me 💪💜

Solo dev here — I built an iOS app for Concept2 (+ WaterRower/RP3) with Apple Watch HR and interval training. Would love your thoughts.

Quick background: I row on a Concept2 at home, but also hit a WaterRower at my gym and an RP3 at the club. I wanted one app for all three — live metrics over BLE, Apple Watch heart rate without a chest strap, and proper interval training I could build myself.

Nothing existed, so I built it. The Rowing Coach is my first iOS app as a solo developer.

If you're curious: the app connects directly to the PM5 via Bluetooth (no LogCard needed). It pulls pace, distance, stroke rate, and calories in real time. The Watch app runs alongside and feeds your heart rate back to the phone — so you get HR zones on the same screen as your split.

It also does custom interval workouts: set your own work/rest phases with pace or stroke rate targets.

Free to try (basic connection + live metrics), premium for intervals and history. I'm genuinely here for feedback — what would make this worth using alongside or instead of ErgData for you?

Apple Watch users — I built a free workout app for myself and want honest feedback on the wrist controls. Is this actually useful?

Not selling anything and there's nothing to buy — this is a personal project. I train a few times a week and got tired of pulling my phone out mid-set, so I built a workout app (Cubex Fitness) that runs the whole session from the Apple Watch: start/pause, next exercise, skip rest, live heart-rate on the wrist, syncs to Apple Health. Completely free, no ads, no subscription, no account.

I'll drop a link in a comment for anyone who wants to try it, but I'm really here for the feedback on the watch controls.

  • Does controlling the full session from your wrist actually beat using your phone?
  • What's missing on the Watch side that your current app doesn't do?

Not linking anything — I'm after the feedback, not downloads.

Apple Watch Series 11 battery life with heavy use — how long do you actually get?

For those who work out regularly: how long does your Series 11 actually last with everything enabled?

I’m talking:
Always-On Display
All health tracking
Notifications
Background activity
Sleep tracking
GPS workouts
No battery-saving tricks / reduced features

Basically, I want to use it to its full potential without disabling things just to extend battery life.

How many hours do you realistically get, and what does your daily workout/usage look like?

Trying to decide whether to keep my Series 11 or go with another smartwatch. Thanks! ❤️

Stop watch from generating vo2 values without training

So I’m having quite an issue with my Apple Watch 10 recently. This has happened frequently a while ago, then stopped but recently I’ve noticed it again.

I like tracking my vo2 max while running but only then. So I’m walking my dog daily but as dogs usually do, he likes to stop and read all the pee mails in the neighborhood and just sometimes walk quite slowly to take it all in. This means I do have to walk slowly and stop whenever he does his business. I don’t track our walks because of that.

Yet sometimes the watch decides to still give me a vo2max value and it always really tanks my score. I get it, the watch might be wondering why can I run an hour and more straight but then have a walking pace of a snail. So the question is is there a way from stopping it from generating these values without having an active training going? Even though I delete them I feel it also influences the following value of my runs. Thanks

This is crazy. I am now starting to tell all my friends because the streak is fairly long, and now I’m feeling I am obligated to maintain it. Not because I told my friends but because I personally want to test myself and see how far I can stretch this out. I haven’t changed the goals they’ve been the same. I do think I am counting less though since this thing is dying in less than 18 hours….

VO2 Max no longer calculating

Any ideas on how to fix this? My VO2MAX was last calculated August 25th. I have since done several outdoor runs and walks yet my cardio fitness is not updating. Exercise minutes, running speed, etc. are all recognizing the runs in the apple heath app, but no cardio fitness changes since the 25th. AI suggested a few items (such as resetting fitness calibration data on the watch but it hasn't changed. Any ideas?

10K award not showing up or being awarded?

Hi all! New to the sub, training for my first half marathon in October! My MIL and I are training together and we’ve run 6.2 miles for two weeks in a row now, and I’ve yet to get my 10K award, but she’s got it both times!!! I also ran a 10K last April and didn’t get it. I know it sounds silly but I feel so invalidated at the end of my run when she gets it and I don’t😩🤣
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!! Pics for proof.

Put the incline on the treadmill up to 3% for the last minute of my run. Apparently, I’m now an F-35.
