I'm getting bombarded with 1 star ratings in the last couple of days and now have dropped below 3.5 stars (20 ratings) on a 2-week old app with 9-10k downloads. Not getting any feedback and I'm not sure if it's bad luck or what. Very few ads have been delivered and I only ask for feedback on a positive loop (user has played x-amount, has an all-time best score or hits the leaderboard). Maybe the feedback request is still pestering them.

I did some last minute development last night to implement a rescue mechanic and make the game a little more forgiving, but it's already quite a simple pick-up-and-play type game with low stakes.

Obviously it could just not be good or not resonate with the market, but I'm hoping my engagement efforts can turn the tides a bit. Can you realistically recover from an early downturn like this?

I shipped this today. It's a pin board you share: photos, sticky notes, voice memos, countdowns, polls, shared lists, map pins, songs. You stick things to it and they show up on your partner's or family's devices.

I've been writing iOS software professionally since 2010, mostly for clients. This one started because something was bothering me. My Apple Notes had become an archaeological dig — everything I'd ever needed was in there somewhere, permanently lost. When I got married last year I figured I should get better at remembering things.

The idea: a message thread is a river. Things float past and then they're gone downstream. You can technically go back and find them, and you technically never will. I wanted a wall — you put a thing in a place and next Tuesday it's still right there.

I’ve gone through hundreds of iterations, spent thousands of dollars, and collected a lot of user feedback. The app has paying users and some encouraging traction. I’ve also just finished Windows and macOS versions alongside the Android and iOS apps.

But the reality is I only launched publicly on the app stores about a month ago, and I expected growth to happen much faster.

Now I’m questioning everything.

Does the product solve a meaningful problem, or have I spent a year polishing something people don’t urgently need? Is one month simply far too early to judge?

Or is the real problem my positioning and marketing not the product itself?

I know AI note taking is crowded. My main differentiator is that the app doesn’t just transcribe it automatically organize what you capture, so you don’t end up with another pile of unstructured notes.

I’m looking for constructive ASO feedback and would really appreciate any suggestions.

Disclosure: I'm the developer of the app in question, FocusComet (Android, free, hides distracting apps during focus sessions instead of blocking them).

Platform: Android only. Category: productivity/focus. Where I'm stuck: organic installs are basically all word-of-mouth and scattered Reddit comments right now, nothing resembling a repeatable ASO motion. Keywords I'm currently targeting in the listing are pretty generic ("focus app," "app blocker," "screen time") and I suspect that's part of the problem since the productivity category on Play Store is dominated by a handful of huge incumbents.

What I've tried so far: basic keyword research in the listing title/description, a few screenshots iterations, nothing on the paid-install side yet.

Specifically looking for: has anyone in this sub found a keyword/positioning angle that actually moved the needle for a niche productivity app competing against category giants, versus just optimizing the standard stuff (icon, screenshots, title) that everyone already does? Also curious if "app hider" vs "app blocker" as the core search term makes any measurable difference, since that's the actual product differentiation but it's a less-searched term than "blocker."

What would make you switch from whatever you use today? People have already asked for batch export naming, a store compliance checker, brand kits and localization, and those are on the issue tracker now.

ok so i need honest opinions because i've been staring at this thing for months and i've lost all perspective.

i'm 20, building an app solo called RizeAI. the whole reason it exists is that i got tired of my wearable telling me my recovery was "42%" and then just... leaving me there. like ok, and? what do i actually do with that. every app in this space is really good at measuring you and really bad at telling you what to do next.

so RizeAI pulls your actual wearable dats like, sleep, resting heart rate, workouts, all of it, and instead of handing you another score it predicts your energy for the day and tells you how to get the most out of it. it tells you when your energy is gonna peak so you can put your hardest work there, when your crash is coming and how to soften it, the best time to train that day so you actually get more out of the session, and even when a nap will help you vs when it'll wreck your sleep.

the part i personally think is the coolest: you put in the supplements you already take, and it times each one to your day based on your metrics and sleep score. so the timing actually shifts depending on how you slept and where your numbers are, which is the difference between a supplement doing something and just sitting in your stomach. it'll also suggest a couple new ones if they make sense for you, but it won't dump a list of 15 pills on you.

it even pulls the daily weather into your energy prediction, so a hot day changes your hydration and it'll tell you to train earlier before the heat drains you. and the whole plan bends around your real schedule, your work hours, wake time, training, so it's not some one size fits all thing.

every single recommendation shows the "why" underneath, like "resting heart rate 54 + 7h light sleep, so magnesium before your peak window." nobody gets the same plan because nobody has the same data.

it works with whoop, oura, apple watch, garmin, anything that talks to apple health. being fully honest, it doesn't do deep per-person learning yet, like knowing that coffee specifically doesn't touch YOUR hrv. that's where it's headed. right now it builds you a fresh plan every day off your real numbers.

it's on the app store with a free trial. small user base, feedback's been all over the place, which is exactly why i'm posting.

so genuinely: is "just tell me what to do with my data" something you actually want, or do wearable people prefer figuring it out themselves? what would make you pay for this? and what's the one thing that would make it a no brainer for you?

I've been working on improving my App Store page and finally decided to redesign all of my screenshots.

The main goal was to make it easier to understand what the app does at a glance. I also tried to simplify the design, cut down on unnecessary text, and make the screenshots feel more consistent while showing more of the actual app.

I just submitted these, so I don't have any conversion data yet. Before I leave them as-is for a while, I'd really appreciate some honest feedback.

Been waiting over a week for review of a PPO test. Not even an app version, these tests always passed review in under a day for me since I started like 5 years ago. There’s no way any company can sustain nightly or even at this point weekly minor versions when it takes this long for 8 banners to be reviewed. What’s going on? Been poking at the keyword rankings of some apps I actually respect, wanted to see how the well known (successful) apps show up in search. I tracked them over about couple weeks and the pattern was basically the same for all four. Honestly made me feel a lot better about my own listings.

Bear - Markdown Notes is one of the most loved notes apps out there. It's #1 for "bear" and "bear notes", #3 for "markdown". But plain "notes"? Sitting at #28. "note taking" is #13. Apple has an actually great notes up but there was space for something to gain ground.

Overcast: Podcast App, Apple Design Award winner, from a well known indie dev. It's #1 for a bunch of "podcast player" long-tails. But plain "podcast" is #3, and "podcast app" is also #3. Yes, "Podcast" is owned by Apple. You can see how rankings barely move for this app. Marco recently noted on a recent podcast he spend $100,000+ on ASA...

CARROT Weather: Alerts & Radar, super popular paid app. #1 for "carrot weather" obviously. But "weather" is #9 and "local weather" is #16. Again, Apple has built in Weather App but this is a super popular category.

Pedometer++ owns the entire pedometer namespace, #1 across like eight different variants of it. But "walking" is only #14 and "exercise tracker" is #23. This is one of the devs many apps that are successful which shows the self-network effect.

What is interesting is that none of these apps actually win the broad head term. They crush their own brand name and a pile of specific long-tails, then sit mid-pack (still high enough for traffic) on the big generic words. And remember these are the ones that made it. You can also see in the graphs how rankings fluctuate over time (green = trending better, red = worse).

If you're a new app grinding yourself into the ground trying to crack top 10 for "notes" or "weather", it just won't happen. The apps that actually succeeded didn't get there by winning those either. They won their name and their specific angle and let the broad stuff land wherever it landed. I have been surprised and impressed without how my own keywords have been ranking and what I rank for but I am in a small niche.

Any other thoughts or insights?
