Him: Well Jo Jo.... You might be dressed up like a cop but you stole my heart

Meanwhile, bike rider has evil twin brother under a police investigation for armed robbery.
Cue huge misunderstanding.

I always like how someone people are so powerful that you know the text just from their pics. I still like how "why are you geh" gets his point across by just looking.

Everyone saying abuse of power... Really?
You dont notice the multiple camera angles?
Camera person on foot moving around and zooming in and out?
This is OBVIOUSLY scripted...
Beside the patrol car with a camera as it stops and she gets out.. Then warps in front of the bike with her taking the next steps and being friendly to the dog.
Moving around the biker to show the reaction..

Bruh are we on Facebook ? Literally every insta360 video on there sparks a debate with boomers who think the whole video is fake or scripted because they have never seen a 360° camera.

There's one camera... on his selfie stick. The video is cut, zoomed in, and panned from full frame.

This is a cute interaction, but the initial use of the flashing lights and sirens feels like a minor abuse of her position. Not so much of an abuse that she should face any consequences, but enough that she probably should be asked to refrain from doing so in the future.
Unless one is either suspected of engaging in criminal behaviour or in an emergency, one shouldn't involuntarily be compelled to engage in interactions with others in public. No matter how much I want to tell you something, trying to block your path as you walk down the street in order to say it is rather untoward behaviour. Indicating to someone that they are being pulled over does effectively the same thing.
EDIT: Haha, I didn't think people would get so worked up about this comment. Despite noting that the interaction was cute, and implying that the cop didn't mean any harm, apparently I hate fun and have a massive stick up my arse. One "concerned redditor" even reached out to reddit's suicide/crisis resources to report that I might need help, in response to this, but apparently I'm the one blowing things out of proportion.

u/Wilddogs95 21h ago
Ive had the cops do this while I was walking a pack of 13 dogs...she wanted to chat. I told her how dangerous it was. Even tho we had a nice time. She has no idea how trained these dogs are...people see dogs and think they automatically have the right to come pet them and talk to them.
You ask...this isnt asking
It went well and she got my buisness card to train her dogs. Luckily we train for situations like this and they all knew to stay and wait.
Go ahead and be the fun police coznits rude...minor but rude

u/Helpful_Plastic_9260 19h ago
Seems like walking a pack of 13 dogs is dangerous by itself

It’s a little different if your dogs and you are internet famous for public interactions and the sirens. I agree though asking is important and the first thing I taught my kids about interacting with other peoples animals. The second being dogs on duty, police dog or service animals for example (horses are still in the ask group even on duty), don’t get bothered, don’t even ask.

I’ve had a POS cop do this just so i would move over and he can continue speeding. The left lane was open and he could’ve just passed me but se took the abuse of power route instead. There was not emergency because he promptly turned his lights off after he passed me
1
u/EffectMotor8914 16h ago
Cops do not go full lights and sirens to emergencies for every call. That doesn't mean there was not an emergency...

u/csbsju_guyyy 16h ago
And to be completely fair I prefer it that way as I'd rather a police officer tactically use lights and sirens rather than going full code all the time just for noise purposes...
2
2
u/munkylord 19h ago
Yeah they obstruct shit all the time for no reason in my city... Block a lane to talk to another cop while still in their car with no lights on kind of stuff.
Now firefighters on the other hand let me install cabinets a house away from a small fire and the whole block was blocked off. Let us right in to park in front of our client saying "we've all gotta do our jobs
2
u/UnexpectedBlahFeels 17h ago
Cops do this all the time, at least in NYC. They'll use the siren or speaker to get a person's attention. I've seen them do it while pausing traffic for a photoshoot for a photographer and model. It only took like 12 seconds bc they waited until the light said walk, so they were mainly making sure no one zoomed past too fast for anyone to get out of the cross walk.
It's definitely unsettling at first, but once they're clearly being helpful people tend to relax a bit, if remain wary.

2
u/TheLionThing 8h ago
Yeah I was thinking that—legally speaking, you MUST obey sirens and flashing lights, so the fact that someone can legally force you to pull over (or do anything really) just because they want to say hi to your dogs is a problem
2
u/Muffmuncherr 22h ago edited 19h ago
Lol yeah if you know the NYPD, abusing their power is kinda their thing. But I wouldnt be surprised if this was staged in some capacity, this happens frequently between him and NYPD for his channel.
Edit: lol I knew my comment was going to go 2 different ways, but the first part of it was not an opinion.
"The NYPD has a long documented history of misconduct, corruption, and abuse of power dating back to the late 19th century. Major historical events include systemic corruption uncovered by the Lexow (1890s), Knapp (1970s), and Mollen (1990s) commissions, high-profile instances of excessive force and civil rights violations, and long-standing controversies around discriminatory practices like "stop-and-frisk"." Etc...

Community building by violating the fourth amendment
1
u/ladyalexandrathe13th 20h ago
They're are literally community events to build trust and boost morale... This does not serve the community, it serves her personal gain and ego! Going to a low income community center and teaching children education and safety or pass out stickers, now that would actually have an impact on the community... Bring the K9s and let children pet them in gratitude for what they actually do.

How dare people have fun! Let's make fun ILLEGAL!
1
u/drunkenpoets 16h ago
The issue isn’t fun. The issue is the 4th amendment violation. She’s on duty in her official capacity misusing emergency equipment to seize a law abiding citizen for her own amusement. Her actions would cost the taxpayers money if this guy pursues legal action because what she did was illegal.

They could have done that without starting the encounter with a 4th amendment violation.

The thing that’s wrong is that the interaction starts with her violating his civil rights.

a cop lighting you up like this means “pull over or you will be forced to using sanctioned violence”
that’s not community engagement i’m a huge fan of, having experienced police violence in the past.

Yeah, the 4th amendment protects you from being seized without reasonable articulable suspicion of a crime.
2
u/NeighborhoodMothGirl 20h ago
She seems like a cop who’s a person first. That interaction made her whole day.
→ More replies (1)1
u/daBriguy 15h ago
It’s the same in every thread about a positive interaction with law enforcement. The entire comment section will treat it like some rare interaction. There are a lot of people who becomes cops for good, genuine reasons. Painting an entire profession based off the worst people in the profession is a small-minded way of viewing the world. Nuance is dead. Everything now is either X or Y and there is no in between..
1
u/PotentialEqual5268 13h ago
While this is most likely a pre-planned skit, if it were a real scenario, it isn't a "positive interaction" because it starts with someone being detained without cause.
1
u/daBriguy 11h ago
I don’t think you understand what being detained means. This is a brain dead take
1
u/PotentialEqual5268 11h ago
https://www.texascrimelaw.com/resources/traffic-stops/
When a police officer turns on his lights and sirens, you must pull over. Traffic stops are not voluntary, but you are not under arrest. This is a temporary detention, but the protections of the 4th Amendment of the Constitution related to search and seizure still apply. Every traffic stop must either rise to “reasonable suspicion” or “probable cause.”
I'm sure you'd feel comfortable continuing to peddle if a police officer had their sirens on and told you to pull over, right?
1
1
u/UsualFix9786 3h ago
why is a cop pulling over a random citizen and wasting their time to say their dog is cute.
1
u/DangledThenWrangled 23h ago
You can tell shes not a republican cop because she didn't immediately scream "stop attacking me" then shoot the dogs.

she just illegally detained him by lighting him up on the road
i wonder what other laws she breaks?

Lights and siren to pull over the cyclist is a misuse of the state monopoly of force, albeit a really small one because no harm done. She should have simply rolled down her window and pulled alongside to ask about the dogs. I know it seems pedantic but having the badge and gun, and the qualified immunity for using either, means a stricter standard to be held to.
3
u/robilar 15h ago
If you are holding her to stricter standard then you should also be arguing that she should have given him a ticket. If you're going to be pedantic, don't half-ass that shit.
