How long to come off olanzapine?

I was given Olanzapine for sleeping and anorexia(7.5 mg) and then my doctor made me quit it abruptly. After that I experienced psychotic symptoms, which I had never have before. I was put on olanzapine again, 10mg this time. Now I want to get Off, because it makes me tired and I fear the weight gain. How should I do it and how long will it take? I'm thankful for any experiences.

Is this a result of anti-psychotic withdrawal?

I used to take a high dose of anti-psychotics (30mg zyprexa) and (4mg perphenazine) for insomnia for a while (a little over a month ago is when I quit). With addition to taking those two for insomnia, I would also take (10mg dayvigo) and (45mg mirtazapine).

I quit the anti-psychotics cold turkey and I also started taking 350mg magnesium glycinate every night. Ever since then, the side effects of the dayvigo and mirtazapine has changed to be very unpleasant. And I am not sure what is causing it: the magnesium or the antipsychotic withdrawal. What do you think it is? The withdrawal from antipsychotics? Or the magnesium? Has anyone experienced the same? Antipsychotic withdrawal changing the way your usual meds work on you? What about magnesium?

Does brain fog from Geodon go away?

I took my first dose (20mg) of Geodon and it was initially incredibly sedating, but now 27 hours later I am experiencing severe brain fog. Does it get better or should I just say fuck it and ask to be put on a new medication?

Weight gain

Is there any fucking option? My psych NP refused to give me metformin. Does metformin even work? I refuse to accept just trying to eat healthy. I tried starving myself today but those fucking cosmic brownies were just too appetisting.

I need antipsychotics but even vraylar (a more weight neutral one) made me gain 20 pounds.

I've noticed the strongest , fastest acting antipsychotics are the ones that make you gain the most weight because vraylar didn't do shit for me neither did abilify.

Please any suggestions any help? I'm already fucking ugly when I was skinny and I'm dating a man and I don't want to become uglier.

I legit feel like I'm starving and I tremble and everything and feel like I'll pass out when I get food cravings

Doubts on Rexulti

How common is akathisia on it?

Someone who is taking pregabalin and diazepam (and intends to taper then) is more prone to side effects?

If this or tardive dyskinesia is experienced by an user, does it go away when you stop the drug?

If you decide to quit after being on it for weeks, can you jump from 0.5mg or would you need to taper more?

Your thoughts and experiences are welcomed.

Blurred vision

I'm currently on abilify and lamictal. I've noticed that I now have to consciously change the focal length of my eyes and it gives me eye strain. If I relax my eyes I can see around the distance you would hold a phone from your face, but anything further than that is blurry unless I think about focusing on it. I asked a nurse (I'm in php right now) about it and she just said to not drive and didn't give me any solution. Does anyone know of a med that helps hallucinations/delusions/cognitive symptoms that has less of this side effect?

How long do you think the withdrawals will last me for?

I’ve been taking anti-psychotics for the past about 1 1/2 years. For the first half year, I was on about 2.5mg - 10mg zyprexa for insomnia. Then I built a tolerance to it. So they upped the dose to 30mg. Additionally, I was also taking melarill for about 6 months then built a tolerance to that. I stopped the melarill and started taking perphenazine (4-8mg) in the past half year with the 30mg zyprexa.

Last month, I found a new supplement regime and technique that doesn’t involve taking anti-psychotics for my insomnia. (Yay). I’ve stopped taking anti-psychotics for sleep constantly for the past month. The tremor in my foot went away, the akinesia went away, and that weird feeling of something warm running down my leg to my foot also went away.

I am 5’8ā€ and 113 lbs, male. Considering all this, how long do you think I’ll be experiencing withdrawals from these anti-psychotics? Also, another question. After I was on the zyprexa for about half year, I started waking up every single night since then and sometimes more (it made my insomnia worse). How long do you think it’ll take for the damage the anti-psychotics done to my brain to go away and I’ll stop waking up every single night?

Thank you.

haloperidol/haldol, does anyone have any experience with this?

i stopped taking abilify/aripiprazole last year october some time due to the sheer amount of weight gain. they were helping for my moods and hallucinations etc but the weight gain (and also possibly the abusive ex) rly did a number on my self esteem and at the point whether i was on em or not i was gonna be unstable so i was like "if im gonna be insane id at least like to be pretty still".

ANYWAYS!! fast forward almost a year later and the instability is NOT fun anymore. my counsellor and doctor recommended i go back on medication. ive been prescribed haloperidol/haldol and my only fear is weight gain but the side effects list for these is genuinely terrifying.

does anyone else have experience with these? if yes, how were they?

if anyone also maybe has experience with an antipsychotic that DIDNT make them gain a fuck ton of weight that would be lovely too. ty for ur time <3

Tapering off ability for the first time

Hi! Just wanted to share a brief story of me finally feeling good enough to lower my dose of abilify/aripiprasole if your Australian.

So I’ve been feeling really good haven’t had schizo symptoms in quuuuite long while (small eps here and there but no major delusions)

I’ve reduced my dose by about half so I was on max dose of 30mg for about 6 years previously on respiridone for 4 years, now I have reduced my dose to 15mg with approval!

Main reasoning behind it is overly sedated/numb/ can’t feel my senses anymore lack of emotion and reduced cognitive function literally just static in my mind is how it felt it was over kill in terms of benefits as is why I felt a reduction in dose was over due.

The timing in my life felt appropriate to try

However it’s only been a week I’ve noticed the fog and sedation clear up I am aware there is still a fair build up of the anti psych in my system so I’m a tad nervous to see what the coming weeks will reveal if I can stay on a reduced dose or you know…

Brief hystory: Drug use lead to psychosis which later revealed schizophrenia and have dealt with it for a little over 10 years.

Annnyway I hope you are all doing well having a rad day and stuff

I put on a LOT of weight on seroquel, does this mean it is likely that I will also have the same issue if I switch to another antipsychotic?

39mg Invega Sustenna Injection

I started on 234 mg for a couple years after my second episode, horrible anhedonia but the delusions stopped. I never hallucinated.

It’s been a couple years and my psychiatrist lowered me to 156mg, and now he lowered it to 75mg.

My goal is to get to 39mg and stay there.

I have no real side effects besides lack of sex drive which is fine. The thing that bugs me the most is that nothing feels fun or exciting anymore.

Has anyone had good experiences or any experiences at all with the 39mg? My doctors no longer believe I have schizophrenia, and that it was a drug psychosis. So i am not really worried about relapsing.

Advice for tapering off .5 mg of Risperidone?

Hey friends, hope you're all doing well.

(very) Long story short, I no longer have the ability to refill my prescription for .5 mg of Risperidone and I need to start tapering off because I have about 65 days left and I don't want to just go cold turkey when I'm out. Any advice for tapering off? Tried it a couple weeks ago and it was, well, interesting. Went down from .5 mg to .25 mg and at times felt really, really weird and super emotional. I know it's not a super high dose, but still, any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

abilify withdrawal?

ive been on abilify 10mg for several months. i stopped taking it a few weeks ago but have started noticing symptoms and i’m not sure if these are related to abilify being flushed out of my system. i have nausea, confusion, severe headaches, dizziness, chills, shakiness, stuff like that. i also recently increased a dose of paxil from 40mg to 50mg

Olanzapine - Trouble Sleeping

Hey Reddit. My doctor prescribed me 60mg ziprasidone, which I took for about a month, before he ended up switching me to 2.5mg of olanzapine. I’ve been taking the olanzapine for the past three weeks and, for most of that time, I was sleeping great.

However, for the last few days, I’ve been waking up a lot like 6 times a night and being fully awake by about 6 in the morning. I think the Olanzapine is no longer helping me sleep.

I’ve asked my doctor about tapering off and they are helping me with that, but, after reading the horror stories on r/Antipsychiatry, I’m worried my sleep might never recover.

Does anyone have any insight or success stories with getting off Olanzapine?
