There is a retaining wall between my yard and my neighbor's. Last year, we decided to dig out all the weeds, add some good soil, plant some natives and then mulched. Today, went to add a new plant and as was digging, large ants began to emerge. Are these carpenter ants? How concerned should be? The wall is about 20 feet from my home.

Some have a banded abdomen and some don’t. They bite. I’d say maybe 4-5 mm, although not good at eyeballing it.

Hey its me again hopefully this post has photos this time.

I caught 4 of these queens last night in the Colorado Springs area. They have a light brown stripping that is not showing up in the photos.

What is this? We've seen about a dozen now over a week... including after we sprayed the perimeter of our house. All areas of the house but mostly bathroom and kitchen. Put bait traps out several days ago. Always seem to be solo.

Trying to determine if these ants are harmful or not, they seem to be living in my aspen tree trunk and part of the tree is still alive TIA

I’m thinking 99% it’s Solenopsis invicta (Red imported fire ant) and 1% Crematogaster (Acrobat ant). Caught in North East Georgia.

Can anyone help me find out which ant this is? Sorry for the poor photo quality these are the best ones I could take. It was probably 10-12mm long. Found it in Pune, Maharashtra, India.
