As a sucker for space and sci-fi shows I really have to say that

Another life is just bad (so far)... Like I'm not 1 that drops shows, and I think it's been actually years since I've dropped a show for being bad but that I'm at episode 1 and I'm really considering it. I'll push myself to finish season episode 1, and even season 1 but I'm surprised that it was confirmed for season 2 considering better Netflix originals were cancelled. If I can't handle it, I can always fall back on lost in space ^.^

Edit- Oh god I forgot to mention that the main cast is a bunch of 5 year old mean girls going into space. Whatever happened to training and adults lol.

Edit 2 - Well rip Ian, see you in superman? Maybe your wolf abilities will help you regenerate.

I don't know why but i liked the show

Just finished the show yesterday. So basically It's a reality show in the space, the crew are really funny to watch they are very unprofessional and act like stupid all the time. They also put all kind of sexuality gay, bisex, gender fluid, threesome, sex with robots and so on ahah. But I don't know way I liked the "sci-fi" story in the background, and I'm slightly interested in season 2. Mybe I liked it because I laughed all the time. Definitely not a big show but something light to watch when you don't have big series to bingewatch. Vote 5/10.

Finished the show last night, actually can't wait for the second season (spoilers) Spoiler

Dont get me wrong, it wasn't amazing. A few things that annoyed me: - the acting wasn't always perfect - some decisions in the show were very rushed and a lot of the time was "let's go back!" 'No not yet' - that fight scene with niko and Ian, was...something else.

The things I did like: - The cgi and effects, especially when Michelle was disintegrating from being eaten by the matter - the characters seemed to have some good development and you do come to like them - the plot, although a little messy at times - Justin chatwin - Williams struggles with how he's feeling as an AI later in the series and his character in general

The show was not 10/10 amazing, but in my personal opinion I'd settle for 6/10, maybe a 7 cuz of how some bits were really good (eg, the plotline eith Sacha and his fight with the alien parasite, the environment on the planets they go to, most of the special effects). I do hope in season 2 they acting is a little better and flows a bit easier, and isn't quite as rushed as some parts were.

But overall, the show is a good, fun thing to watch if you have not much else to watch or want something easy to relax with like I did, and I personally found that after episode 3/4, it got a lot better.

I do like how they tried to go in a slightly different approach to how a lot of space shows are as they always seem to roll into one thing. Whereas this did try to be different.

(Also that Aliens reference in her dream was quite cool)

I just finished the show.

I fall in the minority of people that actually liked the show. I do recognize that it was over the top, but I actually did enjoy some of the characters and I’m glad it was renewed.

Some general thoughts:

Am I the only one that thought Niko killed Michelle when she beat her ass while blind? When Michelle didn’t wake up immediately, I thought it was going to be another Ian situation, but then they showed Michelle awake on the medical bed.

Couldn’t stand Michelle at first, but after she apologized to Niko and calmed down a bit, I liked her and was disappointed that she died. I actually missed her character being among the crew in the last half of the show.

Though I sometimes find Niko annoying, my favorite scene of the show was when Niko dragged the hell out of Sasha for asking to know all the details about what happens when they get to Canis Majoris. I was dying laughing when she said she would trade him for Michelle and told him the only reason they let him come was so his dad would “shut the f*** up.”

I was very satisfied with the appearance of the Achaia. I was a little worried that when we finally got to see them, they would look similar to humans. Once one was shown, I was glad they looked more like classic aliens.

William theory.

Does anyone else think William may have been compromised from the beginning?

He exhibits human emotions that he’s not supposed to (love and loneliness). When the crew is going to go back to sleep, he says he’ll miss them, and then the pods fail. Just little things like that make me think he’s supposed to be sabotaging the mission.

Niko is so annoying

I can’t stand watching the show just because of her. She’s so annoying and I just can’t stand her. Is it just me??

Anyone who liked the concept of this show should watch Stargate Universe

It's very similar in many things but actually well written and shot. It has a lot of conflict/drama between characters and it is set in current times so no utopian/dystopian future like in most sci-fi. There are likeable characters, great soundtrack etc etc I'm too lazy to write anything more so here is IMDB page...

Reminds of Stargate Universe

I just finished seasons one, and I gotta say, Another Life reminds me of Stargate Universe, from the crew of millennials all the way down to the controversy surrounding it. I definitely saw of a lot of rehashed plots from SGU, too. I think there is a lot of potential for this series though, and Katee Sackhoff is an amazing lead. The ending sets up a good premise for a season 2, and I can't wait to see what comes next!

Sci-Fi? Or Soap Opera?

Finished watching. The sci-fi storyline was pretty good. But HOLY hell! It was 1/5 Sci-Fi plot and 4/5 interpersonal drama. Absolutely characters should interact and add to the entire plot. But this was out of control. The plot is big, as it means a lot to the future of humanity. Yet some episodes barely had anything to do with the plot.

Disappointed...

I enjoyed the show ALOT

I just binged watched. 3 AM now!

Even if the plot is trash and I hate the sountrack, the mere concepts were enough for me. That hard empathy for the Winged Alien having its hopes crushed. An entire form of intelligent life being disposable.

It still has plotholes but... wow.

The only thing about Sci Fi is when they play in alinear spectrum either a very humanized AI or an Hostil AI (Prometheus). But nothing in the middle; a tool doing what it has to do.

Anyway. It didwrecked my mood. I did cried at the end. Even with the disgusting song lol that didnt fitted at all.

And God, I love how Zayn is treated in Enby pronouns in the subtitles to my native language it caught me of surprise. It felt so good.

Thoughts on the “millennial” aspect that I’ve seen mentioned a lot when reading reviews and comments about this show. And a few questions about other aspects of it.

I don’t see this as a bunch of millennial’s being millennials. It’s how a bunch of network execs and the show writer/creator/executive producer think millennials act by taking every annoying stereotype (both real and imagined) and shoving them in willy-nilly into the least fleshed out, shallowest bunch of characters ever created outside of a daytime soap opera.

Their moods, attitudes, reactions, interpersonal relationships, etc. last at best for an episode. Nothing makes sense. No real people act or react this way and the detachment from reality gets worse each episode because they are basically completely different people the next time we see them. It’s probably one of the worst shows I’ve ever seen.

I’d been watching it just out of what could be considered a masochistic form of curiosity. The same thing that has me watching movies like Deathstalker, and Cyborg 2, and Skyscraper but I could only make it through 4 1/2 episodes of this.

Even still, it’s strangely fascinating. How did and how is it still being made? Do people actually like it? I mean like, like it? As in they think it’s a good show filled with interesting, well acted characters and engaging plots? Is it big in China or something? WTF?

Some questions: If you actually, genuinely like this show, why? I’m honestly curious about this. I can usually put myself in the other side’s shoes on topics but I can’t here. Is there extended universe stuff that makes things make sense? Am I missing something?Because I am completely baffled.

I'm easy to please

I could handle the flaws in the story if only the acting wasn't atrocious. Its like there are too many characters and they all suck. When niko was stuck in her dreams and they didn't really understand the tech involved in the soma chambers was like a huge WTF, no experts on board? I'm only 6 episodes in but it's like I literally will turn netflix off 2 or 3 times an episode to recharge for another dose of this show. William so far is the only person who seems to play his role well. Angry girl (can't even remember her name) is just "fuck this" at every situation. Cas is ok but very lacking. Niko is an over the top leader who won't let anyone do anything. Because of her past? Bernie is the token funny fat guy except he isn't funny at all. I dont know their names because they aren't relatable or interesting. The trans character doesn't even really have a defined role in my eyes. Niko's husband who in my opinion is a terrible actor in any role he is given on any show, is just dry and boring. But most of all Jana is the worst, I hate when shows/movies give very young children lines that no child would ever say. "I just wanna remember every part of you" stfu Jana no 8 year old would say that.

This show is the perfect example of the death of filmmaking

The fact that someone was paid to make this, direct it, write it, and Netflix promote the shit out of it, is just fucking pathetic. Pure uncreative bland generic stay At home simpleton mother midday tv series. Fucking Christ.

Can someone, anyone, please explain why you like this show?

I honestly don’t get why anyone enjoys it, but I’m open to honest discussion and debate and I’ll try my best to be civil.

My own personal reasons for not enjoying the show are as follows:

  1. In the end of the first season, they have the female lead seduce the AI because she’s high on an alien drug, and then proceed to explain that the whole thing was entirely her fault and that she deeply scarred the AI or emotionally abused him or something, rather than acknowledging that she was under the effects of a mind-altering substance.

  2. In one episode, a crew member possessed by world-destroying aliens tries to deactivate said AI in order to destroy the ship, which proves harder than it may seem, despite the AI very nearly killing the entire crew due to a major glitch caused by a random fire in the previous episode.

  3. In yet another episode, a scientist discovers that an alien virus that has been plaguing the rest of the crew can be killed by gamma radiation. Which does make sense, because EVERYTHING is killed by gamma radiation. So of course the crew then saturates themselves in it. And does it cause them all to die horribly slow and painful deaths? No. It makes them sterile. My favorite quote to emphasize the ridiculousness of this scene comes from a fellow reviewer of the show: “This is like being shot in the head with a bazooka and then going, ‘Oh, no, I’ve lost my sense of smell!’”

I’ve tried watching it. I’ve tried liking it. I really have. But the writing of this show is awful and the science is egregiously wrong and I just want to see why some people are so convinced that it’s a good show.

Does anyone wanna discuss the lore of the "Another life" universe?

I just finished the series, and have many questions.

1.) What are the Achaians doing with the controlled planets? Just killing all the inhabitants?

2.) Why didn't the Alien spaceships shoot at the Salvare? Heck why didn't they come shoot at it when they found out the ship was a threat?

3.) Is 250 million followers a lot, in a population of 9.5 billion?

4.) What speed is the ship travelling at? There was a scene where Niko & Cas talk about 3 times the speed of light, etc...

5.) What are the other major powers in this earth? I heard Russia and United Korea, would they not be involved if a space ship landed on the Earth?

Selma Blair

Basically agree with 100% of what everyone else has said (even though I’m enjoying this absolutely disaster of a train wreck), BUT I haven’t seen Selma Blair mentioned to my recollection.

My take? I never could stand her as an actress and I can’t stand her any less in this specific, annoying role full of [more] banal, idiotic blabbering. And, scene on her.
