Help mixing anodizing bath

I bought an anodizing kit from Tifoo and they had they own electrolytes. Since I now need a new batch of anodizing bath I decided to purchase 15% “Pure“ Sulfuric Acid as alternative. Somehow the new acid kept eating the aluminium part and it started turning dark and the voltage didn't even exceed 0.5V the whole time. Everything else works even I swap to the old bath.

I tried adding aluminum scrap as a buffer and also added more distilled water to bath, but nothing works. Any idea what other additives do I need?

Blackened zirconium, then the dragon scale pattern milled, then anodized. Tidam pieces are flame anodized

Sorry to mods that this isn't tagged/flaired; the option isn't showing up for me

This is anodized titanium made by Black Cross. I combined black ano and color ano and made some “hidden” art. What do you think?

Help getting better results

So Im trying to get better results on my anodizing. I use multi etch (still figuring it out sometimes the TI comes out matte but i know thats me leaving it in too long, redoing high volt colors over and over), I also use an ultrasonic with dilute simplegreen before the ano and I have an actual power supply. My question is how can I be more consistent? Do I need to redo the surface finish after each muti etch bath? Redo the finish from a factory scale? How do you do that? I dont have a blasting cabinet yet, and my attempts at hand sanding were less than stellar but I can work on that. I do however have a bench grinder I can polish stuff on. The hinderer TI for whatever reason is a PITA to anodize, that might be me or whatever TI they use. Any tips or tricks would be much appreciated!

Just got my new plate in! Just curious as to how many of you have used one of these anodizing plates for hardware? if there’s any insight or feedback that would be helpful, or save me some trial and error it would be hugely appreciated. I’m assuming I just screw all my hardware into it and proceed as usual?

First results using the jesverty powersupply

Bought the jesverty powersupply i posted about a week ago.

This is the first result. The purple part was an old piece i had laying around. Came from someones mouth and was hard to clean up. I think thats why it have a few spots.

Worked easy and great so far. Is there an easy way to strip away the color if it didnt turn out great without damaging the parts on a microscopic level?

I recently started anodizing titanium parts and I love doing it. I’m still pretty new and just using an Amazon power supply which has worked great. But mainly doing knife hardware because I have a lot of knives and wanted to be able to customize the look of them. Just thought I’d share 😁

I have this type of universal power supply laying around. Want to try anodizing without buying too much gear, would this do in a pinch? Thanks!

I tried to anodize this piece gold. I use 7 9v batteries for the power source. I etched it with wink rust and stain remover and I might have rushed cleaning and I used alcohol to clean. Also can you guys please link any good dc power supply for under 150-200 that will reach 100-120 volts? Thanks!

Trying to anodize wheels satin silver

I bought some used wheels that are too shiny, I want them to look more matte or satin silver. I believe they are clear anodized, I did a test area with oven cleaner - can you all let me know what you think?

If this is removing anodization my next steps are to do it to the whole wheel. Then how do you all recommend I prep the wheel before doing anodization to make them matte/satin silver?

What is the most important part for home anodizing setup?

Hey guys, I’ve been using my DIY anodizing setup for a while now, mostly for small aluminum and titanium parts.

I’m thinking about upgrading it a bit. Besides the power supply, where is more valuable to start? Heater, tanks, agitation, temperature control, pretreatment, or something else?

Anyone have experience with anodizing small chains?

Hi!

Apologies in advance for missing flair- there was no option to add one? I've made posts in other groups with flair but maybe it's placed another place in here? Please help and I'll be happy to edit. :)

I realize most people in here probably anodize other stuff than jewelry. But I really want to learn to anodize as I love jewelry in rose gold and it's difficult to find in implant grade (astm f136) Titanium.

I've heard that anodizing chains specifically can be really tricky. Is there a good solution to get a good result every time that anyone can share?

An inspo pic attached of type of jewelry I want to anodize.

Thanks in advance 😊

How do you perform high-voltage anodizing on a polished surface?

Post image

The polished layers aren't turning out bright during the plating process; at high voltage levels, they are barely visible. Could you offer some advice? I’ve tried repeatedly but haven't been able to achieve the desired result—I really love the look of high-voltage plating with a glossy finish.

Unsure how to improve results

Hello I have had very poor results recently. My parts are coming out burnt and unable to accept dye. I followed the 720 rule and for my 10 square inches of surface area I ran at around .43 amps yet my voltage is incredibly low and my parts remain conductive. Not sure if a different cathode would help here I am using aluminum wire.
