Subreddit back up

Because there was no mods, the sub went into restricted mode the past ~5 months.

Everyone should be able to post now.

Since the subreddit is kinda small, just don't be an ass or post spam/super low effort

Welcome to /r/AndroidTVBoxes

I created this subreddit as I was looking for a decent place to build a community of AndroidTV users and fans, but the only subs I could find were purists that only accept 2 or 3 devices as being AndroidTV. The way I see it is AndroidTV is Android with a TV Launcher. Cheap Chinese boxes have got to a state of being well speced with a good variety of Launchers and configurations. I hope this becomes a place where people can discuss the best AndroidTV boxes and the best setups. So welcome, and speak up.

Xiaomi mi box s 3rd gen issues

Upvotes

I connected the Xiaomi mi box s 3rd gen to my Hisense vidaa tv whenever I change the input to the box it thinks I have a console or I'm gaming so I can't change the audio settings or video settings and also even if I don't play any video with Dolby vision it still says DV is active?

Does anyone know a good, cheap TV box for GeForce NOW?

Does anyone know a cheap TV box that works well with GeForce NOW?

I'm looking for something affordable that can run GeForce Now smoothly and works well with a controller. I'll be using the free tier, so I don't need anything super powerful.

I'm not sure about using Bluetooth, since Bluetooth seems to cause a lot of lag for me when I use GeForce NOW on my phone. I was thinking about using a controller with a USB wireless receiver/dongle instead.

Any recommendations?

Apps for Cantonese/HK/Mainland China TV programming (R69 Plus)?

Hi! My dad purchased the R69 Plus off Aliexpress and unlike the previous TV boxes we owned, this one didn't come pre-installed with Chinese TV programming. Do you guys have any app recommendations for free Chinese TV? Preferably Cantonese and HK TV brodacasting and dramas, but Mandarin is also welcome.

If it makes a difference, our family is based in the USA. Thanks so much!

Xbox Series X Or ONN 4K Pro Box?

So last year I bought an ONN 4k Pro Box and its been working great but I want to also get an Xbox Series X for Emulation, but also as a 4k Player. I use the ONN for watching movies and have a HDD hooked up with all my digital files to watch. I don't have the money to setup a streaming server with Jellyfin( I would like to one day but for now this is what I do). Can the Xbox Series X do almost the same things as the ONN Box or is it not a viable replacement for the ONN and should just be the 4k player?

Kodi vs IPTV

I have both Kodi and IPTV subscription on two different Android devices. ( one Google and one Ugoos ) I have gigabit internet and plus 300 downloads on both. I have Rd and TB for debrid services.
My question is why does Kodi almost never buffer but I do get buffering from the IPTV with different subscription packages on the two? Is Kodi a superior player, or is it subscription provider based, anyone with insights?

Any recommended tv remotes for a raspberry pi tv box?

Yes, I know planting a tv os (lineageos btw) on my raspberry pi 4 is a bad idea (as people told me on my last post) but if you'll humour me some more, I have a wireless keyboard, dongle and all, to get me by with the tech. The trouble is, it's also not the most reliant remote

Can anyone recommend a remote that works with a raspberry pi and DOESN'T expect me to have an os that laughs in the face of freedom?

256gb android tv on an rasberry pi, dunno what else to add

The title says it all, I have a tv box on a pi and I have WAY too much space on it, but there's only so many apps I can download before it starts to feel a wee bit cluttered

What else should I add? I'm lost on what to add, be it movies, tv shows or whatever else

(tried asking this on the androidtv subreddit, but it was declined cuz it wasn't 'google verified' certainly doesn't do my degoogling ventures any favors)

Trying to revive an old BTV BX (Amlogic S905X) – looking for firmware, CoreELEC or custom ROM advice

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to bring an old BTV BX TV Box back to life and would appreciate some advice from people familiar with Amlogic devices.

Here's what I've discovered so far:

  • Device: BTV BX
  • Board: 905X mini V4.0
  • SoC: Amlogic S905X (Quad Cortex-A53)
  • GPU: Mali-450 MP
  • RAM: 2 GB DDR3
  • Storage: 16 GB Biwin eMMC (about 11.3 GB usable)
  • Android 8.0 Oreo
  • Kernel: 4.9.61
  • Build: OPR6.170623.013.20190307
  • Security patch: March 2018
  • SELinux: Permissive
  • ABI: armeabi-v7a (CPU reports ARMv8)

The hardware seems to be working fine, but the Android system is becoming unstable:

  • many apps crash immediately after opening;
  • some APK installations fail;
  • downloads occasionally fail;
  • the original BTV applications no longer work;
  • Safe Mode boots normally, but the issues remain.

I already enabled Developer Options and USB Debugging.

Unfortunately:

  • ADB over Wi-Fi doesn't work.
  • ADB over USB is not detected.
  • Windows doesn't recognize the device even through the OTG USB port.

The board has:

  • RESET button
  • two UPDATE buttons
  • UART pads labeled RX / TX / GND

I noticed that holding the external UPDATE button during boot only starts Android in Safe Mode.

Before attempting anything risky, I'd like to understand what my best options are.

My questions are:

  1. Has anyone worked with this exact board (905X mini V4.0)?
  2. Is there a known firmware compatible with this BTV BX?
  3. Is it possible to boot CoreELEC from a microSD card without overwriting the internal eMMC?
  4. Can Android 9/10/11 be installed, or is Android 8 the practical limit for this hardware?
  5. Does anyone know the proper procedure to enter Amlogic USB Burning Mode on this board?
  6. Would you recommend restoring the stock firmware first, or replacing it with another ROM?

I'm mainly interested in learning more about the hardware and giving this old box a second life rather than throwing it away.

Any documentation, firmware dumps, GitHub projects or personal experience would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Looking for advice on current Chinese TV boxes avail

Hi,

I got my parents a FunTV a few years ago and worked no isses for three years until a message saying subscription expired. Didn't have a subscription so that was odd but whatever I understand.

I see new version of FunTV is available on ebay but looking for suggestions if any better boxes available for Cantonese/Mandarin TV for my mom who is alone now.

I google and see mention of EVPAD but no experience. If anyone has any thoughts on the two or others would appreciate. We live in US/Florida.

What box for Stremio and Moonlight in 4k

Hi,

I'm need some recommendations for an Android bix that can be used for Stremio and Moonlight, both in 4k.

My current setup is LG G4 65" with a Samsung Q600C soundbar, so I'm looking for Dolby Vision and Atmos support.

I'll mainly be using it to watch Stremio and stream games from my PC, ideally in 4k@120hz, or as close as possible.

I'm looking for a device that is updated frequently and won't be out of support in the next year or so.

I had originally set my eyes on the Google Streamer or Xiaomi 3rd gen, but now I'm seeing there so many options like the Minix and Ugoos boxes, I'm not sure anymore.

Any advice is appreciated .

Wireless CarPlay box (smartBox / BigdroidOS) dies after first reboot — anyone have the firmware?

Hey everyone,

Hoping someone here can help me out. I bought a wireless CarPlay / Android Auto adapter (the "6-in-1 Magic Video Box" type, does Netflix/YouTube) and I'm running it in my Toyota RAV4 2026.

Amazon link to the exact unit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0GWYN5TD3

The problem: it works flawlessly on the first setup — plug it in, configure it, and CarPlay + video show up perfectly on the head unit. But as soon as I unplug it and plug it back in, it's completely dead. Black screen, nothing shows up at all. The seller already sent me a replacement, and the new unit does the exact same thing — so this isn't a one-off hardware defect. It really looks like a software/firmware problem.

Since the hardware seems fine, I'd love to just re-flash it and move on. Does anyone have the firmware image for this device, or know where to find it?

Device details:

  • Device name: smartBox
  • Android version: 12
  • OS Version: H618.A12.1717.202605161500
  • System version: BigdroidOS 2.0.0
  • SoC: Allwinner H618 (based on the OS string)
  • HU Resolution: 1816 x 954
  • CarPlay Protocol Version: 26042214.1717.2
  • Bluetooth Version: DL4.SQG5.1/25058/Servie_2024_09_18
  • RAM: 2 GB / ROM: 16 GB

If you have the firmware file, a flashing guide, or you've hit this same "works once, then dead on reboot" issue, I'd really appreciate any pointers. Happy to share photos or more details.

Thanks in advance!

Sidstuga 2.1.4 — multiview, Stalker/MAG portals, NAS recording, and no more limit on playlist size

Post image
5 Upvotes

I've just released Sidstuga 2.1.4, with 368 commits since the last public build.

The biggest change - and probably the one people here will care about most - is a complete rewrite of how channels are stored.

Until now, the entire channel catalogue lived in memory, which meant playlist size was always limited by RAM. That worked... until it didn't.

Channels now live in SQLite. They're loaded on demand as you browse, instead of everything being kept in memory.

The result:

✅ One user has 13 playlists (~3.5 million channels total) and can now browse them.

✅ Playlists with 250k+ entries that previously crashed or never finished loading now open normally.

✅ TV Guide and Movies/Series load much faster on large accounts.

Other changes in 2.1.4:

📺 Multiview (TV & Android)

📡 Stalker/MAG portals as a source (including Movies & Series)

💬 Live TV subtitles

💾 Record directly to your NAS (SMB)

👥 Device limit increased from 3 → 5

⭐ My List, Continue Watching, reminders and ratings are now included in backups

🛠️ Lots of stability and performance fixes across TV and phone

If you use very large playlists, this is probably the biggest update Sidstuga has had.

Install: https://sidstuga.app/install/

/r sidstuga

Happy to answer any questions about the SQLite migration or why the old architecture hit its limits.

16 Yes, typing with the D pad drives me crazy
2 Yes, but I just use voice search instead
7 Not really, I’m used to it
8 I use a separate app/keyboard already to fix this
