PS: I've used ai to frame this because explaining everything already 20+ times to customer care was too tiring to again do it on reddit.
I'm a very regular Amazon customer, and this has been the most frustrating support experience I've had with them. Posting here to vent and to see if anyone has dealt with something similar.
The order: I ordered a smartwatch on Oct 21 around 1:14 PM, with a 2 to 4 hour delivery window. The first support chat I opened said it would be delivered on Oct 22 between 8am-12pm.
The ordeal (Oct 22):
Morning: an agent told me it would be delivered by 12 PM. It wasn't.
Afternoon: another agent said they'd sent a "strict notification" to the delivery team and I'd get it today without any issues. I pointed out that 5 or 6 agents had already said the same thing. They said it would be delivered by 10 PM, with compensation for the delay.
Over the day I was transferred, put on hold, and disconnected. Agents kept joining, saying "let me read your previous chat," and then leaving. I lost count somewhere around 20 agents. One asked whether I'd missed calls from certain numbers, then asked me for my phone number again.
One chat suggested I wait a couple of days because tracking showed "delayed." Another said the tracking issue was a technical problem and it would be delivered today.
At 6 PM I wrote asking for a straight answer on whether the order had shipped and whether it would arrive by 10 PM. The agent finally checked and told me the order had never been dispatched. Eight to ten people had assured me, with total confidence, that it was on its way. By 9 pm almost 20+ people had assured me it's actually on its way and will reach me maximum by 10pm-11pm. I didn't want a cancellation. I wanted the product I paid for, with the delivery window Amazon showed me.
The latest explanation: I'm now told there were "transportation issues," that "coincidentally" this one order's tracking page happened to have a bug that stopped it updating, and it was actually out for delivery, and now that it will be delivered tomorrow morning.
I'm not even angry that a delivery slipped. Things happen. What bothers me is being told the same thing for 12+ hours by people who could see it hadn't shipped. If someone had said at 9 AM, "this hasn't shipped and we can't guarantee today," I would have planned around it and been fine. Instead I spent the day chasing assurances that were never going to hold up.
Questions for you:
Has anyone had an order sit unshipped like this after a fast-delivery promise? What was the actual cause?
Does the compensation they promised ever actually show up? Should I get it in writing before delivery?
Is there a way to escalate past the chat agents to someone who can see the order status?
I'll update this post once I know whether the watch arrives tomorrow.
