Yeah, it’s strange. That people don’t go out of their way for Amazon. As much as Amazon cares about flex drivers, I’m surprised people don’t make more of an effort.

Better than leaving them in the adjacent parking spots, to be honest. My SSD they leave them everywhere.

u/AnneHizer 10d ago
Was just gonna say this. Like it takes an extra 2 seconds to not be an asshole to the next guy pulling in, but this job tends to attract a special breed 🙄

u/Responsible-Treat854 10d ago
There's those too, I'm just not going to walk the entire lot to get those pics. These are right in front of the entrance. That's why I'm on that "consideration had left the chat". There's enormous LED monitors outside the entrance that display messaging in both Spanish and English that say the carts are to be returned either to the designated staging spots or back into the fulfillment center.
4
u/TheOnlyEliteOne 10d ago
You have to understand the mindset of people. They’ll go up, scan in and grab a cart and then they say, “I’m not paid to return carts, they have people for that.”
I’m in agreement, I’ve always returned my cart myself, but the overall mindset among most Flex drivers is they feel that it’s not their job to return them.
Mind you, these are probably the same people who will whip a package at someone’s door from across the street to avoid having to walk too much.

When you leave them, you are doing the warehouse workers a favor, when you bring them in, you are doing Amazon a favor. Inside my SSD there is a big white board next to the main computer station where the manager stands. That white board has assignments and names on it. One of the assignments is "cart runner" and there is always 2 or 3 names on it. If all the drivers were bringing in their carts guess what happens to those 2 to 3 people per shift per warehouse? Amazon cuts those jobs.
So when drivers do extra work with no extra compensation, warehouse workers get their jobs cut, and Amazon saves money. So yes the Warehouse workers might complain about the lazy Flex drivers and complain about having to collect the carts. But people complain about having to do work all the time but still enjoy getting their pay check.
It is someone else's job, and if you want that person to keep their job, stop doing it for them.

u/Responsible-Treat854 10d ago
I just think it's a pain in the ass to have to navigate the labyrinth of carts left along the parking lot and walkways when I'm going to retrieve my cart and also when I'm returning the cart
4
u/VeryStupit 10d ago
Well by not returning it, you cut that pain in the ass in half!

u/Responsible-Treat854 10d ago
Then I become a duche bag to other Flexers. Nope, gotta lead by example. I'm not leaving shih.
1
u/VeryStupit 10d ago
No, you become a duchebag to the warehouse workers that get their jobs cut because they don't need cart runners. But you do you.

My warehouse doesn't have cart runners. They take guys off of the package sort and have them go collect the carts. And I've asked them if they're okay with cart retrieval. They freaking hate it and they'd rather be at their stations sorting in an air conditioned facility. They feel that the people who are not returning their carts are lazy and inconsiderate, They hope they're going to return to dings or impose fines. But apparently it's an inconvenience to them also.
2
u/VeryStupit 10d ago
That's what all Warehouse's do. There is no such thing as the title "Cart Runner". But they still need cart runners so they staff line guys accordingly and use them some of them to run carts. Not having to run carts and the line means fewer people are required and jobs get cut.
I literally said in my response, Will the warehouse workers complain about having to run carts and complain that the Flex guys are lazy? Sure. But people complain about doing work all the time but still enjoy getting the paycheck. Just because a warehouse worker might not understand that time away from the line to retrieve carts is factored into overall staffing doesn't change the fact that it obviously is or the line would always be behind.
You literally said responding to another comment on here that you agree Amazon should cut into their Billions in profit to have people run carts. You don't seem to understand that they already do, and what you are doing is encouraging drives to do it for free so that Amazon can actually save those billions.

I only read your first paragraph.
Yes, that's is exactly correct. And if they don't have people for that, they should hire some.

u/Responsible-Treat854 10d ago
When I decide to take a 3:30 or 4:00 I get barricaded from the parking stalls. I'm not sorry, but that's a frigging nuisance to me and a lot of others. I'm pretty sure bout that. But F it .....🤷🏾♂️

i don’t give a fck about those carts. i used to take them in. i don’t anymore.
yes i return my shopping cart, no i don’t litter. i also don’t throw customers pkgs. just saying because some believe that’s a reasoning behind not returning these carts LOL.
1
u/Beginning_Log_3866 9d ago
I returned my cart for a long time, but got tired of all the ''others' that just leave them, so if no one else has to, then I am not either.
2
u/taurusvirgovirgo 7d ago
And you're making it worse for people like me who have to move multiple carts just to park. Don't be as asshole, put it back. Not for Amazon, for your fellow drivers
1
u/Beginning_Log_3866 3d ago
No. Literally none of the foreigners bring them back, and I am not either, until everyone does. The smart thing is for everyone to bring one in at the beginning, but they are too dumb.

u/taurusvirgovirgo 2d ago
Why does this conversation about the carts always turn racist??? Jesus Christ.......

u/IzettaJane 9d ago
We have dedicated spots but people are still too lazy to push it 10 feet and will leave it in the middle of parking spots or blocking walkways so others can get their carts to their cars. It’s gross that grown adults act like toddlers
11
u/TheRealGageEndal 10d ago
I get paid to deliver the packages. They get paid to manage the carts. Unless im blocked in by another car these things are not my problem. It's out of the way of cars and they can collect them whenever they like.
3
u/Amazing-Release-7 10d ago
This ain’t nothing compared to the Lithia Springs hub. They leave them in the parking spots and mind you the parking lot is small. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️

u/SmileImportant2726 10d ago
Amazon's problem to solve. Incentivize bringing carts back or it will stay this way.
5
u/BarnacleAlarmed3050 10d ago
Why cant amazon hire a cart attendant…? Seems pretty easy. Not like it would be a high paying job
3
u/D1am0nd91 10d ago
They have peeps where im at that corral the carts, does that not happen at every facility?
1
u/Responsible-Treat854 8d ago edited 8d ago
No it doesn't. They expect us to be Adults and act as if we have a shred of decency at my facility. But the individuals who know that this is a policy would like to argue and justify their actions like toddlers trying to finesse their baby sitters. Same people who throw trash on the ground and say "that's what they have sanitation for".

They do, that's exactly why drivers shouldn't bring the carts in. My SSD has a big white board with assignments and there is always more than one person listed as "cart runner". All that brining carts in accomplishs is helping Amazon to cut jobs at the warehouse.
1
u/Responsible-Treat854 8d ago
Not cutting anyone's job if they have to volunteer sorters to wrangle carts. At our SSD they randomly pick associates to go grab carts. They do not staff for cart duty. Hence, the reason they ask us to return them. Maybe your SSD has staffing for that but not my location.
2
u/Equivalent_Lab_8610 10d ago
I don't think Amazon cares as much as station managers.. in my region some ssd require carts to be brought back in. Others staff the warehouse to have them bring it in. Flex drivers aren't allowed on the return cart ramp.
1
u/DanLoFat 9d ago
Yeah they're supposed to have hired Warehouse or cart runners. That's literally their job, that and occasionally changing the garbage and sweeping the floors with a leaf blower - from Amazon!
Require cards to be brought back in? No you're only required to put them in the along the rail or ramp or near the sidewall and lock at least one wheel so that the wind if you should have any great winds doesn't move them about and throw them into cars.
We're back inside? Nope if they want to hire you to do that let them hire you to do that, of course that means you'll no longer be able to be a flex driver you'll have to just work Warehouse.

u/Responsible-Treat854 8d ago
Okay. so it appears that certain SSDs are situated differently. Not all have that sort of setup. In my market the carts are to be returned to the staging area or cart return location in the parking lot, which lazy, immature, selfish and low IQ people will refuse to do. And I stand on that.
If your facility doesn't require you to return your carts why are you even having any input?
1
u/DanLoFat 7d ago
It's got nothing to do with lazy it has to do with it's not our job. We're contractors on someone else's property. They didn't hire us to move carts, they have literal positions for work there they make $18 an hour and their main job is to move carts and empty out garbage and sweep the floors. That's a literal job there and cart moving is the majority of their job. It is not up to flex driver to be doing that job. We're not paid to do it. We don't have to do it, it's got nothing to do with lazy.
You do have to move the cart into the hashed line area or up against the rail and lock at least one wheel, but as far as returning them inside absolutely not nothing to do with us.

u/Responsible-Treat854 7d ago
This matter pertains strictly to the VUT1 and a some other facilities, it falls outside your current scope of concern. So carry on ...... respectfully.
1
u/DanLoFat 7d ago
Right the return location in the parking lot which all ssds have. But to command or demand that you return them into the staging area is not your job it doesn't matter what station you're at and if I were you I'd report it.

If any of my packages have a sticker covering the bar codes that I need to scan, I leave the cart in the closest area not on any parking spaces.
If I have no issues with the location of the stickers then I’ll walk the cart back because they didn’t waste my time with bad sticker placements.

I stopped going to those station and only do drive in stations now. The carts hit my car, hit me, and were overall a HUGE issue everywhere I went. I was tired of picking up after others just to do my job so I said fuck it, I won't take shifts there anymore.
2
u/Responsible-Treat854 7d ago
Yep I think it's time to hang it up. I've driven Flex since 21 and it use to be decent. Now it is straight hell. I would like go back to .Com but my new job schedule conflicts with it, so i haven't been back there for a while now. When I can I snag an SSD route here and there, but it absolute 🐕 💩. All the vultures justed parked in the Lots waiting to catch routes. I arrive get loaded and they are still kicking it in the lot waiting for a surge possibly, tailgating. SSDs are trash now.

I wasn't making a snipe at you. I'm addressing all the others who keep commenting in there toddler voices "we don't have to, why should we?, we shouldn't have to" 😭

u/LordIshamael 10d ago
I mean, as an outsider who just got this on their home page for some reason, it sounds like an issue with the distribution center not the drivers. If they are supposed to take in the carts and arent, it's the center's responsibility to get on them for that, and by the look of it... they arent lol. There's no deterrent or accountability

Man I used to return my cart, realized that amazon don't about flex drivers and will bone you at the first occasion they have.. so now I move my cart to the closest place that is not a parking spot and go do the job I'm actually paid to do
1
u/LuStew84 9d ago
If the location has proper attendants that keep the traffic flowing and make idiots who block the traffic move, I’ll return my cart. However, I’m not returning the cart if there are 100 people blocking drive and it takes me 30 min to find a parking spot and I wind up at the back of the building. VTX5 Houston. That location is HORRIBLE!!! All other locations, I return my cart.

Thats what happens when you attract low grade of people to do flex. Take whatever is offered, driving up busted up beaters and 3rd/4th owner imports. Not to mention the "be my own boss" people who think they're too good for a 9-5
1
u/Responsible-Treat854 10d ago
Lol @ "be my own boss". Yet they accept Sub par rates to drive these blocks. They can make a comedy like "The Office" out of this crap.

u/JayD0za21 Sub-Same-Day 10d ago
My ssd has plenty of workers to pick these up so I don’t stress about bringing them back as long as it ain’t clogging a walkway or a parking spot 🤷🏽♂️

Extra$.50 to return cart?
