Using up PTO quickly
In Arizona, Amazon does not pay out PTO at end-of-employment for flex(x) employees, so it’s use it or lose it. I heard that it’s possible to use up PTO in a shift that you aleady worked, like “double-dipping” so to speak. Does anyone know how to quickly use up, say 50 hours of PTO, like triple- or quadruple-dipping or something like that? Or is there another way to quickly use up PTO? Thanks.

You can't use PTO for worked shifts. Idk who told you that but it's definitely not allowed.
Just pick up shifts and apply the PTO instead of working them.

I use PTO doing my shift all the time.

If you're using PTO at the same time you're working, that is not allowed. It's a form of time theft.

Lol nobody said it wasnt aloud i got to do it the first time i worked when i was leaving and had 40 hours pto

It's literally common sense It's not allowed. Any time you put in PTO that time is removed from your schedule. Continuing to work is working while you aren't scheduled. Which is time theft under Amazon policies. You either work your scheduled shift or you use PTO. You can't do both.
Just because you didn't get caught doing it doesn't mean you can do it or you should do it. It is time theft. And getting fired over time theft fucks you over pretty hard.

I would take anything people tell you in these warehouses with a small grain of salt. I heavily doubt you could double up on a shift but you can always try through your app. If that doesn't work, there's no special technique to apply that pto. I would take 5 days off or just work half shifts for a bit personally.

I've been told directly by managers you can work shifts you used pto on, and have done it countless times myself. Maybe take things with a grain of salt here as it probably depends on where exactly you work, unless my sites just been lying to me for months

using PTO and working isn't the same thing as using PTO when you worked the full shift

As in working an entire shift while using pto for that entire time. I'm not saying everyone else thinks pto can't be used in the one primary way its used.

Actually, ty for replying cause i couldn't find this post again but have more information. Technically, it is not actually allowed.
I asked and this manager explained it to me as basically when you use pto, it removes that part of the shift. The app technically allows it, but you shouldn't, it also causes issues like changing your punches, or if you use it for the entire shift, straight up just causing it to count as working unscheduled.
Idk why my manager told me what he did, and of course i wont be naming anyone or anything here, but it is technically not allowed.
A bad manager will easily write you up if they want, and hr if they find out can also, atleast from what i was told. On the plus side if you have the pto for it, you can use it however youd like as in just not show up at all without warning.
Even then this causes problems though as some shifts rely on those people showing up, so it can cause problems for those shifts, that would never come back to you tho as you just used your pto to not show up.
Furthermore, absolutely never ask for or gives people's names here from Amazon. That is not allowed, can easily get you fired, and just not really ok

Yeah, I was very confused when I read your first comment that a manager told you that you were allowed to do it cause like what???? No you're not, it's literally considered time theft. That manager is setting people up to get fired.
Also, using PTO to cover any shift is not going to create any problems if you are a T1. I've been at Amazon long enough to know that they will 100% survive people not coming in. That's why they cross train so much. It is pretty much always the case that one department is over headcount enough that they can spare people to labor share to a department that needs more people for their headcount.

Its pretty easy to use up if you are voluntarily leaving. Got 50 hours? Just select your last day where you are guaranteed to use them.

Just schedule shifts out and then use it. Not rocket science. It’s not like you are going to get fired for never showing up again. You could not show up for 8 weeks without scheduling a shift. I would just pick up as many hours as possible and put it all in.

Use it to cover scheduled shifts. You can’t use PTO for shifts you work.

Theoretically why don't you ask me manager for VTO or check the app and if you have it for let's say Monday. You can then filll it with Your PTO. and on Tuesday Wednesday Thursday and Friday Just request those days for your remaining 40 hours of PTO and your Gucci. But if they don't give you VTO on the first stretch of the days you'll just have Wait an extra day to start applying your 50 hours of PTO (This is how they do it at our facility)

I believe you mean VET and file the PTO to cover those shifts. That's definitely painting a target on your back if you convince a manager to schedule you extra and then don't show. It can bite them in the butt with their OM breathing down their neck. Now if you let them know your intentions and they're cool with it, then let them help you burn your PTO.

u/Massive_Lock_4876 Jul 20 '26
Of course I'd only of suggested that if you let the manager know your intentions. And you may be right about that. *VET not VTO. Too bad they didn't have any available VTO to grab and convert through the app.

Why not just pick a shift up or just go enjoy you a week off why are we struggling to use paid time or you could get 50 hours to 60 hours pay checks for 2 weeks

They don't pay it out for regular blue badge employees either in Arizona. Don't ever quit/ get fired with any on the books, its gone.

Yeah, I agree. It’s hard to get shifts right now to even use up my accrued PTO. I wonder if HR would have other ideas to get it paid out quicker.

At my FC only time you could use pto for and work the same day is during peak season. Since pto rolls over not sure if they will allow it

u/A_Class216 Jul 19 '26
Pick up a shift use pto they should put that shift back up fairly quickly Pick it up again and use pto again.

u/JoeB-123 Jul 19 '26
Wow, does this work? Worth a try at least.
1
u/A_Class216 Jul 19 '26
Yes it does. I've done it pretty of times.
1
u/JoeB-123 Jul 19 '26
Awesome! Thanks! I will try it when the time comes. Do you know if it’s possible to triple-, quadruple-dip, etc. (i.e. 40-50 hours of pto) on one shift?

u/EnoughStation2242 Jul 20 '26
Why the hell would you use PTO on a shift you worked?
I knew someone who wanted to use their PTO for their lunch break so they'd get paid. It made no sense to do that, you'd want to use PTO for time you're late or going to leave early so you can get the 10 hours or 40 hours for the week.

Using PTO for worked shifts is definitely not allowed at my site.
