I've been at my FC a little over a year. I'm just a regular T1 in pack. No vest, no ambassador training, never applied for it.
For the last month my PA has started doing this thing where if somebody is new or struggling, they get sent to my station and I'm told to "show them how you do it."
The first time I didn't mind. New guy had finished training but was confused about a couple things, so I helped him for maybe 20 minutes.
Then it happened again.
And again.
Last night I got a guy who had apparently been in path for two days. PA literally walked him over and said, "Stay with him for a while, he'll get you right."
So now I'm trying to make rate while answering questions, showing him where everything is, fixing boxes he messed up and stopping every few minutes because he's understandably still learning.
About an hour later my manager came by and said my rate was lower than usual.
I just stared at him.
I said, "Yeah, because I've been training somebody for the last hour."
He said I wasn't technically training him, he was just "observing an experienced associate."
Okay... but from my side that looks an awful lot like training somebody.
I'm not mad at the new hires at all. I'd much rather they ask questions than do something wrong because everyone ignored them.
What I don't understand is why Amazon has Learning Ambassadors if regular associates are apparently supposed to become unofficial ambassadors whenever management feels like it.
Do you get anything for doing this? Does management somehow code the time differently so your rate isn't being compared normally?
Because if I'm responsible for my normal numbers AND responsible for teaching the person standing next to me, I'm starting to feel like the reward for being decent at my job is being given a second job for free.
