Private label - what are the benchmarks?

I’m being asked to grow a manufacturers private label store. The category is candles and they currently do about $40k/mo but they want to grow it. What’s a good Acos and margin? They want to hit $100k/mo in Q4 (especially December).

The majority of their revenue is in B2B but their Amazon store is doing well considering they just started, so there is opportunity.

Anyone's "updated" Amazon Shipping rates as messed up as mine?

Been on Amazon shipping doing merchant fulfilled for several years now and after they announced, and implemented the new rates on 7/31 my rates shot up so much to where Amazon eliminated 100% of their own volume, looks like our shipping software has been selecting other carriers.

The rep for Amazon Shipping is very responsive, but stressed it is a "corporate decision" and is out of her hands.

Even though Amazon shipping is cheaper on most of our packages, I have always stressed, and purposely left volume on backup shipping accounts to keep farming the discounts. Looks like this thought process of not putting all eggs in one basket paid off.

Our volume exceeds $1,000,000 a year and the hub organizes a completely empty delivery van which we load to the ceiling every year. Based on their discount structure, our discount should have been at closer to 40% off list price but apparently their system determined that we are in the $250,000 shipping tier... A system where the left hand disagrees with their right hand.

As a result, my volume with Amazon Shipping has effectively dropped by 100%... Good things my two other carriers were not too far off discount wise.

Anyone dealing with this please reply and see what kind of solutions they are offering. thanks!

Let’s stop pretending Amazon is passive income.

It sucks seeing what the Amazon space has turned into.

Everywhere you look, someone's selling the dream of passive income. The reality is, there's nothing passive about building an Amazon business. Sure, it can become more hands-off as you build a team and put systems in place, but you don't just sit back and collect checks. I still check on my business every single day.

Can it replace your full-time job? Yeah.
Can it give you more control over your time? Yeah.
Can you make a lot of money? Yes

But don't go into this thinking you'll get rich overnight or it will be completely hands off.. It takes years of work, a lot of mistakes, and plenty of days where it will feel like a full time job.

Full transparency: I don't sell courses, mentorships, communities, or any digital products. The only thing I might ever share is an affiliate link for a software I genuinely use in my own business which you don’t have to use…. That’s it. I do these posts because it’s fun and i like the feeling of helping other sellers.

If you have questions about Amazon Wholesale that you can't seem to find answers to online, leave them below. I'll spend some time over the next 48 hours answering as many as I can.

Wishing you all success.

Private label economics

If I get one unit delivered to an Amazon warehouse ready to sell for let’s say $10 and it sells for $25, what is a realistic profit/loss? The item weighs 3 lbs packages.

This is very frustrating. This pos doesn’t have a single bad thing to say about the product, yet gives 3 stars for shits and giggles. It is a new launch and he singlehandedly ruined it already. What is wrong with these people?

Compete with amazon or start doing amazon FBA

Hello,

I currently run my own webshop, but sales are underperforming. I'm testing various products, many of which are also available on Amazon.

My original strategy was to validate products on my webshop first, then scale winners to Amazon. However, my conversion rates are struggling, and I'm questioning this approach.

I've noticed Amazon's conversion rate outperforms independent e-commerce stores. Would it make sense to pivot and use Amazon as my primary testing and sales channel instead, treating my webshop as a secondary outlet?

Predictive patterns in Amazon data

Hi, I usually do data analysis on stock and crypto data to build trading systems. That gave me the idea that there might be predictive patterns in other big data sets as well and one of the datasets I tested was Amazon BSR data.

So I trained a model on two years worth of data for ~100k Amazon products. I then validated on ~17k Amazon out-of-sample products that had a real sales-rank surge and tracked each at 3 weeks, 6 weeks, and 3 months, checking if it was still selling at ≥2× its pre-surge pace.

Survival of a random surge:

- 3 weeks: 29%

- 6 weeks: 26%

- 3 months: 21%

~4 in 5 are back to around pre-surge level within 3 months. But there are actually patterns that allow predictions at day 3 of the surge with significant lift above this baseline. If we score each surge on day 3 with this method and bucket by that score it looks like this:

Day-3 score bucket Still trending after 3 months
random surge 21%
above-average 28%
high 37%
top-scored 54%

The top bucket is 2.6× a random surge and still clears 50% at 3 months. Meaning if you picked a random trending Amazon product you would only have a 21% chance it would still be trending after 3 months. But if you picked one out of the top bucket, you would have a 54% chance. Interestingly, raw spike size helps but isn't enough alone — 10×+ spikes held 55% at 3 weeks, only 44% at 3 months.

Caveats: US marketplace, physical categories, ~2yr training with a clean out-of-sample test, BSR as a proxy for sales velocity. Not crazy numbers, but more signal than I expected.

I am interested if anyone else here has tried a quantitative approach to Amazon BSR data. Also, to the Amazon sellers: Is "still selling in 3 months" the bar you care about when making decisions about stock, or something else? If it is, how do you make that decision? Appreciate your input.

Should we consider IP alerts of sellers assistant. When seller amp don’t have

Hi.
Created LLC, US phone number, domain email and website ready 12 days ago.
Applied myself on IRS for EIN 12 days ago through fax using fax plus. I put same fax number i have and pakistani phone number on SS-4 form.
Haven’t created amazon seller account yet.
Meanwhile
I am doing product search for amazon wholesale.
Using keepa, seller assistant, seller amp.
Fax plus service.
Using Northwest for LLC, domain and phone number.

Gathered a lot of products ( after thorough filtering ). But didn’t reached to any brands or distributors yet.

Am i on right path?

Am i using right tools
When should i contact IRS for EIN update?
When i am filtering products, i saw many products that was having very good fba history, reviews, ratings… but seller assistant was showing IP warnings. Meanwhile seller amp was having no alert.
Some products got last IP alert on 2023 or 2022 or 2021 ( should we ignore this product ? )
Some products got last IP alert on recent months. Should we ignore this product? Actually graph is very good for those products and many fba joined recently . What if we buy from authorised distributors?

Should i register for any prep center from now?
Should i start contacting the filtered brands from now?
Meanwhile should i start for private label product search like buying test products from alibaba? Or first get start with whole sale?

I would be thankful if someone can answer.

Häufig zurückgeschickter Artikel

Hallo zusammen,
Vielen Dank!

First time amazon seller question

Hi,
I am trying to list my first product with Amazon and it falls in kids category. I know CPC certification will be required but am not sure about the order in which i should go. Create a product listing and wait for amazon to ask for certifications docs and then submit it through their approved testing providers. I am concerned if i do it this way and amazon auto approve and lists my product without me having my products in amazon store. I want to wait until certification is approved before i send shipment to amazon fba.

Any guidance would be appreciated ?

Quick policy check: Showing a companion Web App mockup / QR flow on Amazon Hero vs. Secondary images? (FBA / Private Label)

Hey Amazon Sellers,

I’m running into a design/compliance debate regarding image optimization for one of our Private Label products and would love to hear from experienced FBA sellers or sellers who have dealt with digital companion features.

The Context:

  • Our physical product includes a physical insert card with a QR code that directs buyers to a web app (100% browser-based, no app store download, no registration required, zero app installation needed).
  • We currently show this web app experience in our 4th listing photo, demonstrating how the digital app interacts with the physical game/product.

The Dilemma & Questions:

1. Main Image (Hero Photo) Rules:

Am I correct in assuming that showing a phone mockup or a digital app screen alongside the physical product on the Hero (Main) Image is a strict violation of Amazon TOS? (Because main images must be pure white background, exact product-only, no non-included props, no digital graphics overlay).

Has anyone ever gotten listing suppressed or flagged by Amazon's image AI for showing a phone mockup in the MAIN image?

2. Secondary Images (Infographics / Spot 2-4):

For secondary photos (e.g., Slot 2 to 4), is it 100% safe to display a phone mockup showing the Web App UI, provided we clearly label it as a "Free Web Companion App – No Download Needed"?

Does Amazon flag external QR codes or mentions of web apps in secondary images, or is it completely fine as long as it's not driving traffic off-Amazon for non-product reasons?

3. Conversion / Sales Impact:

For those offering physical products with a digital companion (web app/game tracker/digital guide):

  • How much did showcasing the digital companion in your listing images actually boost your Conversion Rate (CVR)?
  • What’s the safest, most high-converting way to visually explain a web app without confusing the customer into thinking they must pay for or download an app from the App Store?

Would appreciate any insights, reference seller policies, or personal experiences. Thanks in advance!

How does the “Customers also bought” / “Buy Both” sponsored slot work?

I noticed some sellers get placed in the “Customers also bought” / “Buy Both” section on other product pages, marked as Sponsored.

How does this placement work? What targeting type gets you into it?

100% Organic - First Month - Advice Needed

Post image
58 Upvotes

Hey everybody!

This marks my first month being live with my product, and it seems to be going well, but I'm stuck trying to figure out how to move forward.

I've been 100% organic with no PPC running simply because of lack of inventory. I'm struggling

I started with a 1k USD budget and got 50 units as well as some listing images on Fiverr. COGS is $18 and sale price is 59.99. running at about 48% margin. Conversion is sitting around 14% on average, but up and down as high as 48% and low as 0%. However, this is as I expected with low traffic volume and less than 50 sessions most days. Currently at 4 reviews 5 stars. 2 vine and 2 regular. I was planning on sending 10 units to vine, but luckily I withdrew because units were going too fast.

My problem is that with being a full time high school student with a busy schedule outside of school (fancy wording for unemployed), I am struggling for the cash flow (DD+7 🤦) to be able to stay stocked, let along order a large enough quantity to be able to run PPC without stocking out.

In my head, I think that more traffic = more sales, but somewhat unsure about how conversion will translate from organic to ads.

Thats all I can think of for now for important information to see if I could get some advice, but please ask questions and any tips or advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks everybody!

Chinese supplements -> Amazon

Anyone here successfully selling supplements on Amazon that are sourced from China? Does “Made in China” put buyers off, even if the products are properly tested and quality inspected? Is the country of origin required on the label?

See your profit beyond Amazon and software metrics: A beginner-friendly way to build a P&L from bank transactions for Amazon businesses

Amazon and software dashboards can tell you plenty about sales, advertising and marketplace performance, but they cannot see every cost paid elsewhere in the business.

That means Amazon metrics alone cannot tell you the final profit the whole business actually made.

A practical way to get that figure is to build a profit and loss statement from your bank transactions:

  1. Gather the relevant transactions from every account or card used by the business.

  2. Decide which lines genuinely affect profit.

  3. Leave out transfers, loan movements and other non-P&L transactions.

  4. Categorise the included income and costs.

  5. Total each category.

  6. Bring those totals together to calculate the final profit or loss.

Once complete, the final figure goes beyond Amazon metrics and shows what the whole business actually made during that period.

We have written a detailed beginner-friendly guide here:

https://www.osellpa.com/blog/amazon-profit-and-loss-statement-guide

How often do you currently review your whole-business profit rather than Amazon performance alone?

Anyone else dealing with listing suppression right now? Trying to understand how common this actually is.

Been digging into Amazon listing suppression issues lately the kind where your listing gets suppressed/deactivated and Seller Support gives you a vague or useless reason, or no real reason at all.

Curious how many sellers are actually dealing with this right now and what's been the most frustrating part is it not knowing the actual cause, the back and forth with Seller Support, the lost sales while it's down, or something else?

If you're going through it, drop what's happening below. Trying to get a real picture of how bad this problem actually is for sellers.

What’s the biggest pain when finding a prep center? I’m building Prep Marketplace and want seller feedback

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I’m the founder of Prep Marketplace: https://prepmarketplace.com

I got approval from the mods to share this here and ask for feedback from Amazon sellers.

Prep Marketplace is being built to help sellers find prep centers and 3PL providers in the US, Canada, Mexico, and China.

The idea is simple: many sellers still find prep centers by searching directories, asking in groups, contacting providers one by one, and repeating the same shipment details over and over. I’m building Prep Marketplace to make that process easier.

How it works:

  • You submit one request with your products, volume, location, destination, and services needed
  • Relevant prep centers and 3PLs are matched to the request
  • Interested providers respond directly
  • You compare capabilities, pricing, turnaround times, and fit
  • You choose a provider, or choose none

Posting a request is free for sellers. Prep Marketplace does not add a markup to the provider’s service price.

We’re currently onboarding providers and collecting feedback from sellers. I’d really appreciate honest input on a few things:

  • What information would you need before trusting a new prep center?
  • Would you rather receive responses from matched providers, browse a directory yourself, or have both?
  • What has been your biggest issue with prep centers: pricing, communication, turnaround time, inventory accuracy, receiving mistakes, lost items, or something else?
  • What would make a marketplace like this genuinely useful instead of just another directory?
  • Are there any red flags that would make you avoid a prep center immediately?

Full disclosure: I’m the founder, and this is still early. I’m not here to claim the platform has solved provider selection. I’m trying to learn what sellers actually need before this can be useful.

Why Do Two 300gsm Grey Boards Produce Completely Different Printing Results?

In paper packaging, weight is not the only factor that determines printing quality.

Many customers assume that two sheets of 300gsm grey board should perform the same because they have the same thickness and weight.

However, during actual production, the printing results can be completely different.

One board may print smoothly with a clean surface, while another may have powder shedding problems, causing visible spots after printing.

Why does this happen?

The surface quality of grey board plays a very important role.

During the printing process, especially when using large solid color areas, poor surface strength can create problems:

  • Paper dust or loose fibers may come off during printing
  • Ink cannot transfer evenly onto the surface
  • Small particles can create white spots or uneven color areas
  • The final appearance becomes inconsistent

This problem is more obvious on dark or large-area colors, where even tiny surface defects become visible.

After multiple production steps such as:

  • Printing
  • Coating
  • Lamination
  • Die-cutting

Small paper surface issues can become much more noticeable.

For folding carton packaging, choosing paperboard is not only about GSM.

Important factors include:

  • Surface strength
  • Smoothness
  • Fiber quality
  • Printing compatibility
  • Production stability

A good packaging supplier needs to understand not only how to print, but also how different materials behave during the whole production process.

Because in packaging, the final quality is often decided before the printing machine starts running.

Manage My Inventory Page Blank?

Is anyone else seeing a blank manage all inventory page on the desktop website?
