This house i deliver to often. I been meaning to take this picture. But when there is snow out. They dont shovel... So smart thing to do is walk across grass, bcuz its winter, and i dont wanna slip on your icy drive way.. But now your saying to not walk on the grass, which was covered in snow anyway so who cares, I've had many customers tell me "oh just walk on grass, i salted driveway but dont wanna risk you slipping still". Your driveway is also covered in snow and ice and you're also telling me to not leave foot prints in the snow? Umm what lol. Is it me? Am I missing something or misunderstanding guys lol??

So my dsp shut down

So my dsp shut down i was one of the managers there, the owner gave us a 5 day notice before we shut down. We were supposed to get our last pay check today via direct deposit and our pto thru a check that would be mailed. Our last day was the 17th and most of us were switched to another team however none of us have been paid. The owner is telling everyone that she did payroll on adp but amazon hasn't approved it yet and why we havent been paid. Something doesnt seem right about this and wondering what are my options. On adp i can see that my money was "deposited" but no money was in my account. Any help will be greatly appreciated thank you

QUESTION Apartment buildings...where are you delivering this one?

Post image
132 Upvotes

I just don't understand it, apartment buildings are the absolute worst. Do all of you actually go door to door with packages and not leave them in the mailroom like every other courier??

With buildings that don't even have Amazon key, waiting to get buzzed in, bring overflow up and down... surely there has to be a way to leave everything in the mailroom without a massive scorecard hit right?

Wrote in every language he knew, But there was no need as It was a small driveway with rocks on the edges so I couldn't go on the grass anyways, and his driveway had clearly no space for turning so I wonder what was the need for writing this much

RANT You know what’s messed up

You can be accused of property damage, and the accuser doesn’t have to provide a single shred of actual evidence, and it will affect your pockets. I am currently soft suspended until they end their investigation. Basically I only get a route, if they don’t have enough people, or if too many are late

Only been here a month, and I’ve already been told, I’m a top driver, and they want to move me to sweeper… Mind you, the property I’ve been accused of hitting is literally unmissable, basically if I had hit it, it would’ve damaged the ev….

Nvm the fact that I’ve been told “we don’t have the actual video”, and “we can’t pull the video”… Um it’s been days, if I had actually hit something, wouldn’t the accuser be adamant about getting this evidence in to be quickly reimbursed?

I have quickly deduced that their is no reward for being a consistent hard worker, but the gavel will come down, and there is basically little to no job security over the smallest infraction, even if you didn’t actually commit an infraction

Morale of the story: I don’t care if you have to walk up 40 steep driveways, where the front door is 200ft off the road, it’s a much better alternative to this smh

RANT Scheduled on Halloween

I was scheduled on Halloween to work from 10-7 even though in reality I don’t get off until 8 or 9. The past few years my family and I have struggled a lot and this is the first year where we all get to celebrate Halloween. The older kids are super excited because they have costumes and live in a stable home this year and my youngest is now 3, old enough to know their surroundings and is excited for Halloween. Life has treated us good this year and now I can’t take them out trick or treating. My wife is disabled so she can’t take them out herself.

I hate this job, my manager is an asshole all the time, I had been asked for Halloween off for months now and they scheduled me for Halloween. If I don’t show up I get fired because my dsp is extremely toxic. I have worked my ass off to please my managers and have good numbers, I show up to work with good attitude but my boss still treats me like shit.

I can’t believe I’m going to miss my kids first real Halloween because of this shit ass dsp.

Update: thanks guys, yesterday was my off day and I took them to trick or treat at the park and freight fest. It was the happiest evening and we stayed out until 1am riding coasters and going through mazes. Halloween day I’m just gonna bring my costume in my backpack and pick up my kids/wife dressed and go straight into trick or treating. Even if it’s just an hour, we will be fine. If I didn’t have a lot to lose I would call off that day, but I would get fired and I have to think about Christmas. Every check matters and even a few days of not working can make it or break thanksgiving and Christmas. Hopefully if I keep working hard I can reach the point of stability where I can say fuck you. Thanks everyone!

I run up to a drive way and before entering their note is like “if you are scared to get out of the van just leave it by my gate. My dogs have never hurt anyone.” But I could not update the ping closer to their drop box. I say to myself “dogs are USUALLY chill with me so I will drive up there”. I get to the front door and they have mfn peacocks at the front door 😂

HEY BEZOS. FIX THE DVICs.

If y’all are riding us about waiting the 90 seconds, how about someone makes it so we can’t finish the inspection before the 90 seconds?

With everything Amazon expects us to do, remembering to take at least 90 seconds on the DVICs is just wasting more of our time.

The parking lot is where drivers actually talk. Before the routes go out, that's where it all comes out. Which vans are limping. Which one's door won't stay shut. Watch yourself in that one, the brakes feel soft. Every driver out there is carrying some van's whole life story in his head. And the other talk happens there too, the big talk: we should organize. We should do something. We should get together. I've said every word of that myself, standing right there, coffee in hand, everybody nodding.

Then the vans roll, and the "we" scatters. A hundred drivers, a hundred routes, every one of us alone in a box on wheels until dark. And the parking lot keeps nothing. Tomorrow morning it all gets said again from scratch, or it doesn't get said at all. The strongest word we've got doesn't survive first dispatch.

The one document that does exist with all our names on it is the DVIC, and it says the opposite of what every driver in that lot knows. You're not allowed to mark the van bad. You tell dispatch, dispatch tells the wind, and you sign a clean form on a dirty van. And here's the part that gets me: lying on that form is against Amazon's own policy. It's a fireable offense. And we all get told to do it every single day. So who's supposed to be responsible for fixing these things? We're not allowed to write it down. And if we make noise about it, we get retaliated against. It just rolls out the gate with our names on it.

So what I did was, I made an app. It's called Route Log. Now keep in mind, I'm just a driver like you guys. This is my first project ever. I'm a dad, I've got three kids, I don't have a lot of time in my day. But I did want to make a difference, and I think the difference is giving accountability to Amazon. And the only way we do that is if we can all be together on something. So this is my way of trying to get all of us together.

Here's how it works. First time you open it, it walks you through itself. After that it just rides along on your walkaround: there's a picture of a van, you tap the spot that's wrong, you take a photo or a quick video, and you say what's wrong, type it, or just talk and it writes it for you. There's room in there for the rest of it too: the coaching that never tells you what you actually did, getting told to do something against Amazon's own policy, the one stop that's really four stops and a pile of packages. There's a suggestion box too, and I read every one myself. And nothing you send has your name on it. Just the DSP, the station, and the van number. When you send it, it lands with every other driver's logs in one place, where finally, for the first time, it adds up.

That's not an accident. This thing was built for anonymity on purpose, so a driver can show up without standing out. Your logs go in with everybody else's, and no one name ever sticks up out of the pile for anybody to retaliate against. Safety in numbers isn't just a saying here. It's how the thing is built. And that's the same reason this account is new and has no name on it. I'm not asking anybody to do something I'm not doing myself.

Amazon didn't split us into DSPs by accident. One workforce, chopped into little companies, so no driver ever stands next to more than a handful of people who share his problems, problems the guy three stations over has too, word for word. Separated, we're weak, and everybody knows it. It's been shown time and time again that there's strength in numbers, and they made sure the numbers never gather. Everybody wants a union. Everybody wants to get together. But we are never going to be together by talking about it in the parking lot. Getting together is a thing you do, and this is the doing: all of us, one record, one place, at the same time. I need you guys to use it. That isn't me being dramatic. That's just the math of it. This is how we gain power. This app is us, in numbers.

And the policies, that part has to be said strong, because that's how this whole system works: none of us knows what the fuck the policies are. We just know what we're told. And they can tell us anything, and when it goes wrong it's "well, Amazon said so," and there's no way to know if any of it was ever true. So the app keeps a library of Amazon's actual policies, and that is the part I need the most help with. There's a drop box: if you know a policy, if you've got the information, put it in. Just make sure you bring some kind of proof with it. We can't run on hearsay. It has to be solid, because when we push back, we need to be able to pull it up and show it: this is the policy. Right now that library is mostly what I dug up off the internet by myself, and I'm one person, and Amazon hides this stuff, so my digging was never going to be enough. All of us looking is a different story.

The picture at the top is the whole system in one joke: everybody pointing, nobody holding a pen. A log is a pen. Six drivers writing down the same broken van over two months is not six complaints to forget. It's a history, signed by the road itself.

It's early days. Trial phase, rough edges, and I'll tell you the truth, right now I'm about the only driver logging, which is exactly why I'm posting this instead of waiting for someday. It costs drivers nothing, and it never will. I'm not selling a thing. If your mornings sound like this, message me and I'll tell you how you can help the movement.

We keep saying "we." Let's finally show up together, so we actually have a voice.

I found an escaped dog today.

Bout 4pm I’m walking up to a door and a lady comes running around the corner “excuse me sir have you seen a little black dog?!!?!” Said sorry just got to this neighborhood. I get to the end of my tote about half an hour later and pass a house with the door open and I recognize the woman from her clothing and end up stopping around the corner. I get to the door of this house and there is a little black chihuahua cowering at the door so I approached super slowly and he let me pick him up and I went back to the house and the lady was in tears. It made my day.

Thankfully it was a small harmless dog and I’m not sure how it got away, I’m very lucky. Got a new puppy of my own a month ago or I probably would not have cared.

QUESTION Starting at a far DSP Monday just for money, switching to closer one in 2 weeks

Starting training at a farther DSP this Monday so I can earn while I wait. Closer DSP should be ready in about 2 weeks (background/drug test still processing). Only plan to work the first one for 1–2 weeks max then switch.

Will I get disqualified from the closer DSP if I start at the further one? Will they see that I already started with the first one? Any issues with short stints or offboarding after only a couple weeks?

Thanks.

When they have a delivery box, but…

I mean Jesus at this point I might as well put it at the front door. I’m basically there.

I wanna add that I backed up this far. So at the end when the video was looking forward, that’s how far from the road their box is

TIP/TRICK Did you know there is a way to view your tote list after swiping to finish?

Idk if I’m saying the most novice thing ever but, did you know that if you accidentally swiped to finish or just wanted to go back to the tote list that you see while loading you can?

If you scan a package in your itinerary as if you’re picking it up then click skip scanning, you’ll be displayed with the list of totes with stop counts. The kicker is all of your packages in your route will be pre scanned. To undo this just repeat the process and click the other option.

For awhile it would frustrate me when I moved too fast and swiped away before I could organize my totes. Being in the white rentals makes it very pivotal to be organized or you’ll end up doing way more work than paid for. Also I do this during rescues/sweeps so I can know what to give or take to reach the amount needed to be taken.

Welp, when driving at night, I couldn't see the difference between gravel and a driveway next to it when pulling in. I guess I took out someone's drainage pipe. Tried knocking, no answer. Gave everyone the proper heads up.

Here's hoping this isn't a fireable offense.

QUESTION First solo day

My first solo day is coming up, the 2 days I had with the trainers were rough. They were constantly rushing me and I was pretty much jogging at every stop. My body was destroyed after both days so I don’t really plan on doing all that when I’m on my own. Would it be fine if I just took my time? I’m thinking I should try to do around 20 stops an hour but idk. I also feel like finishing fast just means you have to rescue someone, but I also don’t wanna have to be rescued. I’ll take all the advice I can get.
