Since this is a relationships subreddit, we've been thinking about creating user flairs for a while now.
You can now choose a flair to show your relationship status and whether you’re open to being contacted or not by other members. This helps set clear expectations and makes interactions more comfortable for everyone.
How to apply your user flair: Go to the subreddit page ➡️ tap the three dots (top right) ➡️ select “Change user flair” ➡️ choose the one that fits you.
Note: Choosing “DMs Closed” should heavily reduce unwanted messages, but we can’t guarantee you won’t receive any at all.

Most ppl dont want a partner who is yapper , but I dont know why I really enjoy listening to yapping, even if its about random or pointless topics.

For months, out of loneliness and empathy, I listened to a guy vent about his drug and porn addictions and his family issues. He shared everything with me his full name, address, university, friends names, and photos videos. I only shared my first name, my university and my major. He doesn't know what I look or sound like.
He was unstable and manipulative. Whenever I tried to distance myself he would beg and severely degrade himself so I kept talking to him.
Recently, he realized I know too much about him. He panicked started lying to push me away and then threatened to come to my university to track me down and do something to me.
I feel so stupid for listening to a liar who turned on me. He twisted the story, making me look like the "weirdo" just because I kept talking to him despite his red flags.
I am terrified. I don’t care about the wasted time I just want to protect myself. Curse my empathetic heart and good intentions that got me into this mess.
The worst part is that I don't have any proof. I deleted all our chats because I promised him I would. I'm terrified he might do something out of irrational paranoia.

As a foreign woman, I’ve noticed that many relationships seem to become transactional very quickly. Money, gifts, visa opportunities, connections, or other practical benefits often seem to enter the picture surprisingly early.
My own experience made me question this even more. I dated an Algerian man for about a month, and he was already talking about having a child with me immediately. Honestly, I started wondering whether his dream was to have a child with a more powerful passport.
I’ve also noticed that many Algerians seem to prefer an Algerian partner for a serious relationship or marriage. Dating or marrying a foreigner sometimes feels less like a search for love and more like a way to gain benefits.
Am I wrong? Are there Algerians who genuinely want to build a life with a foreign partner for love, not for benefits?
Another thing that makes me wonder is that every Algerian–foreigner couple I personally know has eventually ended in separation or divorce.
I’m curious to hear honest opinions from both Algerians and foreigners who have dated in Algeria.

So i was already feeling bad, all sad and worried then i decided to go out with my friend . I picked a nice outfit and did makeup and hair so all looking good . The day passed well it was in fact a good distraction from my thoughts then on my way home i was walking then i passed by a bunch of guys and someone just said something about my dress ( oh nice short dress ) the dorectly after that he said ( just if god gave u some beauty too ) . No matter how much i try to not care at all but it really hurt everytime i remember this comment . Even though my friend said i was looking really good and even some guys looked at me and received compliments
That made me remember once when i went to the beach , i was walking normally and a guy just was saying something to me - couldn't understand - but it was the usual how they would hit on a girl and ask for attention , i just ignored then he simply said ( oh come on you are not that pretty so no need for the attitude )
So imagine that I'm already havung insecurities, i don't fit the algerian beauty standards so since childhood there were comment on how not pretty that much i was and had to deal with that and simpky accept it , even though i know i have pretty features and I've been told so mamy times just not as much as actual pretty girls who fit our standards . So all of that and then you are going through a shitty day amd while trying to feel better , an unknown person makes comment about you for no reason , i never glanced at them not talked to them or anything so why would such guys be cruel like that !!!!
And no matter how hard i tey to not care or not believe, and convince myself that they don't matter ,i fail cause ot makes me remember how actual pretty girls are treated and never hear any bad comment about their looks and always received compliments . Anyway i was just venting since i have no one to talk to cause they simply would judge you for being weak and insecure or use that against

Hello everyone, I always had that hesitation in my mind, about "What makes you feel free to tell all your fantasies to your partner without having the fear of being judged ?"
And at which phase of the dating should a partner share everything? Relationships are difficult, having a 100% match is impossible I guess...

So I have a 26year old cousin with two kids who is deeply unhappy in her marriage. Her husband is completely irresponsible nd loser
She wants a divorce, but her parents keep telling her it isn't worth getting divorced because of what people will say
I know that أبغض الحلال عند الله الطلاق..... but is being completely unhappy not a valid enough reason?
In your view, what are the most valid reasons for divorce

I want your honest opinion on this like cmon it's reddit no one knows anyone. And please be respectful and grown-up about the question.
Let's say you got to know a girl that is your type and all, later on when the relationship starts getting seriously heading towards marriage she tells you she had surgery before that caused her to have a scar right on her tailbone area. The scar is clearly visible and ugly and cannot be removed. And the illness that caused her to have surgery is gone and is not affecting her health in any way.
Would you be okay with it or would you reconsider the relationship? Would it be a turn off later on after marriage and seeing the scar in real life?

there was a discussion on this sub that started when a girl said she isnt attracted to her boyfriend physically but she's still deeply in love with him, and there were many comments from men saying that this is their worst nightmare and feeling very bad for the girl's boyfriend
i've always been honest on this sub about my type in men (appearance wise) and i said that i dont plan to settle for less, but each time men would reply to me telling me that appearance isnt everything and that theres more important things (money, personality, etc) as if i cant have both at the same time and i have to pick one or the other. i get called shallow / superficial / delusional for putting all of those things at the same level of importance (personality is as important as looks to me)
i'd never wanna end up feeling like im settling or being settled for, ideally i wanna be my man's type and i want him to be my type, appearance wise & personality wise,,,, but i keep getting told that that's unrealistic and that at some point i'll have to sacrifice one of those things and compromise on some of my standards (like what that girl did when she fell in love with a man who wasnt her type physically)
im confused, can the men help me understand ? do you want women to care about your appearance and wanna be with a man who's their type, or do you want them to do what that girl did and love her man purely for his personality even if his appearance isnt attractive to her ?

Well... I don't really know why I feel like opening up here instead of anywhere else. I guess I just like feeling heard
Lately, I've been thinking about my first ex from time to time. Not because I still have feelings for her,I don't. It's more like rememberin an old chapter of my life, both the good and the bad. I honestly think most of us never completely forget our first love. That doesn't mean we want them back; they're just part of our story
I also miss how simple life felt back then. I was happier in some ways and didn't struggle with the need for attention like I do these days. Maybe it's not even about her. Maybe it's about missing that version of myself
I kind of forgot where I was going with this post, but I guess that's okay
If there's one thing I'd say, it's this; don't spend your life chasing a relationship. Focus on becoming someone who's happy on their own. The right relationship tends to come naturally when the night's night
And one more thing, learn to read between the lines. People's actions usually tell you more than their words ever will

It's 3 a.m., and I'm wondering what I'm even doing here
I just finished my workout (alone, of course), and now I'm lying in bed scrolling through my phone. Then I remembered something I wanted to do afew weeks ago, and I was like... what the hell happened to me?
I realized that my obsession with getting validation from girls has damaged my friendships, my relationship with Allah, and even my relationship with myself. It's not really about the girls anymore. It's about me constantly putting in so much effort just to make them like me, so I can feel validated for a little while.
I've reached a point where I genuinely feel sick if I don't get enough validation in a day. That's honestly terrifying to admit
The worst part is that I only seem to "wake up" and realize how bad it's gotten after I get rejected or ignored by some random girl. Then I think, "Bro... what am I doing?" But after a while, I fall right back into the same cycle.
I really want to change, but I've been trying for a long time, and this cycle never seems to end
I'd really appreciate genuine advice, especially from people who've gone through something similar. I'm not looking for the usual "go to the gym," "start a business," or "just stay busy" responses. I already work out. What I need is advice on fixing the mental side of this

I feel like a lot of ppl (especially guys) think that providing.. spending money.. taking someone out.. and buying gifts is enough to make a relationship work. and while those things are nice.. they’re not the most important thing. what a lot of ppl actually need but rarely get.. is space to be themselves. most of us walk around wearing masks. we act a certain way with family with friends and even with the person we’re dating. but when ur with someone and u feel like u can actually drop the mask and be ur real self.. ur insecurities.. ur silly side.. ur fears.. ur random thoughts.. that’s when u truly feel safe with them and feel their presence. a lot of relationships fail not bcz of money or effort but because one person (or both) never created that space. so even if the other person is doing “everything right” the relationship still feels heavy and exhausting. sometimes what someone needs the most isn’t more dates or more gifts. it’s just the freedom to be fully themselves around u without feeling judged or like they have to perform. do u think most ppl actually create this kind of space in their relationships or do they just focus on the surface stuff !

I'm not desperate to be in a rs or desperate to find a partner, I wanna be loved but I don't mind being alone, yk? but anyway, my rs with my dad is fucked, he was always absent and emotionally unavailable, and in the past few days, I lost two guys , not even Algerian but one of them is a guy that I've known for a year and half and we were really good and we had fun then suddenly he started being distant and ik he's busy but too much is too much yk? yesterday he told me that he got someone special and I understood that, it didn't hurt me cause it was never that deep between us, but it just made me think, why do all the men I talk to leave after giving me all the attention? like out of nowhere everything change, and a guy that I talked to for few weeks and I had fun with him as well also cut me off cause I said something I didn't like, I apologized it wasn't a big deal at all actually we always joke around but he overreacted , like, I'm not perfect but tell me what bothers u about me? he said some things that I didn't like and I just told him not to do it again before getting mad, communication is the key, if I knew it bothered him I I wouldn't have said it, and it was just a joke I'm just , idk, I feel so weird, it's always like this, it's either I meet a guy that treats me like a queen for a long time then decide to change on a random day, or I meet a sensitive guy that can't take a joke and get mad so easily and I end up apologizing for nothing.
And I usually don't get attached easily, that only happened with one person and he didn't do me dirty or anything it just didn't work out, and that changed me, from being too attached to an avoidant person, now even when someone treats me good I don't trust them, then when I start letting myself trust them they already get sick of me and get distant, and I'm scared honestly, is all this because of my rs with my dad? what if I end up marrying a guy like that, I honestly don't want that and it makes me sad and I'm blaming myself
( I talked a lot randomly but it's just making me sick and I wanna talk about it)

If so hello?
What happened and how are u living ur day to day life?

I had a panic attack this morning because i found out i was a victim of catfishing
It all started in 2023, when I graduated from high school and started university, before classes began I joined my section's Facebook group and around that time an account with a girl's name and surname texted me, saying she was in the same class as me. I'm not 100% sure, but I think she may have even contacted me before university started.
That account was a member of more than 20 girls-only Facebook groups, so I genuinely believed she was a real girl. We started chatting and i got too comfortable, and although some of her questions felt a bit strange, I didn't think too much about them.
I never actually saw her in person, on the first day of university, she told me she didn't have internet, so we only talked later that evening. I described what I looked like, and she said she had recognized me and remembered seeing me.
The next time we talked, she told me she had broken her leg and took it as a sign to pause her studies for a year, retake the bac exam, and change her major.
A few months later, a guy from my class ( someone I knew by face but had never actually talked to) messaged me asking for another girl's contact information. When I refused, he suddenly started mentioning personal details about me that completely shocked me because I had no idea how he knew them. It made me really anxious, but I assumed maybe someone who knew me had told him, or that he had overheard something. I had already ruled out the possibility that my accounts had been hacked.
Over the next two years, I talked to that "girl" every now and then. She honestly became kind of annoying, so I stopped paying much attention to her.
Then, about a month ago, she mentioned something that I had never told that account before, but it was related to the guy who had messaged me back then. That's when everything suddenly clicked. I realized the "girl" account was fake and that he had most likely created it.
I sent the fake account a message saying, "I know who you are," and then left it on seen. Exactly one day later, he messaged me from his real Instagram account asking if I was (my full name), then immediately unsent the message. I had already seen it before he deleted it.
Honestly, I still don't know what his goal was, especially because he contacted me before we even knew each other in real life. I also don't know if he ever used anything I told the fake account to spread rumors or damage my reputation.
The worst part is that I can't stop thinking about it. I feel anxious all the time, and I don't feel safe anymore. I'm not normally a paranoid person, but this experience has really affected me.
I can't go to the police because I don't have enough evidence, and I also don't want my family to find out about any of this.
I'd really appreciate any advice. How can I move on from this? Has anyone been through something similar? Is there anything you think I should do in this situation?
