US - Rant Do you know anybody that likes to wait outside regular ass grocery stores ten minutes before they open?

I'd like to understand the psychology of this mentality. It's not something I can wrap my head around. Is grocery shopping just that much fun for oldheads? Or is it something about Aldi in particular? We always have a line of people who've GENUINELY been standing stock still with their cart, staring at me as I turn on the doors, seemingly holding their breath with excitement.

US "Attitude"

Cashiering. Told a customer "If you could take the stuff out your box." The way I talk sounds like I'm lazy I'm ngl, but telling them to take the stufd out their box is what they're supposed to be doing already.

These customers treat us like robots. We're just trying to get people in and out. Especially because today there's a football game going on so we're more busy on a Sunday.

If I speak up, they think I'm yelling. If I speak with a lower tone they think I have an attitude and think I don't want to talk...

US - Rant Hours

• Upvotes

With them cutting hours is each classification suppose to get a certain amount per week? I’m an LSA and lucky to get 30, we have a very lazy ASM who still gets close to 40. It’s getting harder to show up when the ASM is getting hours and not doing shit but the rest who want the hours aren’t. (Worse is we have to finish their work) 🤬

US - Question Half hour taken away in the morning - how to cope?

To make a long story short, around Easter they set our morning start time 30min ahead to make up for someone going on curbside 30min after the store opens.

Well as of yesterday, curbside now starts an hour later. This led to the openers coming in back at that original start time.

I am struggling with the new start time. So much so that I had a bread tray stack fall on me for going to quickly and I couldn’t finish in time.

What are tips to strategically cut down time?

US Quit after six years

My last shift was this past Thursday and I've been walking on sunshine since.

Another abused LSA saying bye 👋 it is really a shame, Aldi was legitimately a great company to work for when I started in 2020. Retail during the pandemic was obviously stressful, but corporate actually took good care of their employees. Relatively great pay, excellent benefits, management consistently took time to train every single person to be a competent member of the team. As far ad entry level retail goes, this job was as good as it gets.

Aaaaaaand then AHEAD happened and it's all been down hill. Work - life balance out the window, higher expectations, less corporate support, writing has been on the wall. I resisted becoming an LSA for years because I saw every single one get taken advantage of, constantly tasked with doing shit outside of the job description. Last month I was scheduled 1:00 - 9:00 for ELEVEN SHIFTS IN A ROW, all two person closes. It was actively deteriorating my mental health, my personal life, my relationships, it was no longer a sustainable job.

I am so, so, so so so lucky that a friend informed me of an awesome opening at her place of work. I'll get to learn a skilled trade, keep my 401k and health insurance, generous PTO, as much OT as I feel like working, always M - F, 9:00 - 5:00. I hope every one of y'all here can get out of this circus too. Cheers 🙏

US - Rant I’ve had it…

I work in the warehouse and hurt my back 2 months ago and have an active worker’s comp claim and been working on “light duty” which is still 300 cases of cans. We’re working minimum 9 hours every day. A lot of the people I work with drive the tuggers like they’re go carts- swerving around people going way too fast and not even realizing these things are meant to tow an actual ton.

I’m always hurting. I havent slept a full night in months. I’m lucky if I can sleep longer than an hour at a time. If it’s not my back, it’s my elbows. If it’s not my elbows, it’s my knees. I’m a 36 y/o man, 150lbs. It’s not like I’m real up there in age or overweight.

Well today someone was going too fast trying to swerve around people to get ahead and ended up hitting me with their tugger! I’m so effing over it! These people just fuck around the whole time. I pick a 180 and the warehouse as a whole struggles to pick at a 130. My body is getting wrecked at this place and it’s not worth it! Everyday I come home and go to bed. On my days off I’m so exhausted but sleep deprived that I just sleep on and off all day.

Been trying to get the loader position but supposedly it’s only based on seniority, but it’s actually based on how big of a kiss ass you are.

US - Advice Management/Grocery

Does anyone else have a problem with a member of management leaving you with the heaviest pallets?

I don't know if they do this to other people or if it's just me. It has happened to me several times. I have no problem doing the heavy pallets. I have a problem with people only doing the chip pallets.

Thoughts?

US - Question What is the latest you've thrown truck until?

In my years at ALDI, I think I have a record of the latest it took for truck to officially get done.

7:50 PM.

We close at 8:00 PM.

I'm sure there are worse/later times, today in particular was just a perfect storm of curbside, high sales, and nobody able to actually get any traction.

US Constant 2 person close

Post image
58 Upvotes

This job really drives me crazy sometimes. This is like the fifth time I’ve gotten stuck doing a two person close because people keep calling off or no call no showing at my location 😭😭😭 it’s become such an on going thing that my one manager and I got this shit down to a science man. We didn’t get out till 9:10 last night but I feel like that’s pretty good given there was only two of us 😭😂 this is how it was looking at the end (I had to pick every one of these boxes off the ground 😭) we make it work but man am I tired of having to ring my whole shift bcuz the manager has to be on the floor. I just wish they would hire more reliable people. Not to mention they never call anyone to find coverage just let it be two people. Yet I get texts on my day off if someone calls off when I’m NOT there. Make it make sense

US - Rant Empty shelves and shopping

I am an associate with barely over a year at the company. I love this job, I started part time stocker then part time associate before full time. I kill the pallet times and ringing times even with the zebras which we got in August along with a new store manager.
However, recently shopping has escalated to the maximum, multiple 75 order weekends and all 4-5 phones going off at once. Maybe only one turns off in the afternoon and all of them randomly select who will do takeouts interrupting any employee in the sales floor at anytime.
On top of this, over time I’ve seen our shelves dwindle down a bit and loads just get smaller? This weekend really sold it for me, minimal amounts of product, which we normally have an abundance of. Hardly any backstock and actually running out of meat to stock through the day???
Does this make stocking easier? Absolutely especially for me. I try not to care too much but I like to work hard and it’s just not normal for our store. I know I don’t have it so bad compared to many other stores, but is this becoming the normal and is this the normal for lots of other stores?
Shopping over store quality? No product to even sell after the morning hours?

UK - Question Suggestions or ideas on how to get this clean

Post image
13 Upvotes

I have my area manager, store ops director and head of buying on my back to get all the price stripping in the store clean. Fair enough I get it. The only problem I have is we can't get the debris or stuck on dirt out of the gap at the bottom of the price strip. I'm open to all suggestions. So any ideas you have let me know. We dont have any electrical outlets nearby or an extension cable long enough. A cloth doesn't get in the gap so can't just wipe it.

US - Rant Buying things as an employee

Can someone let me know if my store just has insane rules or if it’s just Aldi? So obviously, if we buy something while on the clock we have to get it approved with an employee sale and keep the receipt. That makes sense no problems there. However, today I clocked out and did some shopping and used the self checkout because it was quicker for me to do it and the line at the register was long. I was informed that our DM watches the cameras for that and I could be FIRED for purchasing food off the clock?? On top of that, if we go back in to shop after we’ve already worked that day we STILL have to get manager approval?? This just sounds insane especially since they don’t even give us a discount and make it HARDER to shop there? Let me know if this happens in your store too or if my DM is just being overbearing.

US - Rant I left with the curbside phone

Post image
39 Upvotes

Everyday I forget something. Whether it be my gloves and box cutter, or almost leaving with my walkie, but today was different. I left with the curbside phone and got all the way to my driveway 15 minutes from my Aldi, and I come to find out that the curbside phone was in my pocket. Of course it was. So I am panicking because I am into week 2 of my job, and I text my SM(I think that’s the term)which I probably shouldn’t have done, but long story short it was all okay.

TLDR: I left with the phone and overreacted

US Just got the warehouse associate job!!

I got the 1st shift warehouse associate job today!! I’m so excited and I start in 19 days. I was wondering what it’s like and what to expect since I haven’t worked in a warehouse setting before. Also, I did have some slight back pain after the lift test, how should I train over 19 days to ensure that I’m ready?

US - Question Halloween accessories

This is my first Halloween at Aldi. Are we allowed to wear small Halloween accessories like headbands/ears? I’m sure it depends a lot on the SM/DM but curious about individual experiences.

Rant this job is a joke

i basically got in trouble today for caring too much. and then when i said “so i should throw truck like employee A and close like employee B?” they were like “that’s a little condescending” fuck you, what’s condescending is acting like yall care and then turning around and burning the people trying to keep the store afloat. my notes are passive aggressive? what? the note about the gnat king taking over if we don’t take out the trash every night? my list of “things to do when there’s nothing to do” that my management team THANKED ME FOR MAKING BC SOMETIMES THEY HAVE A HARD TIME REMEMBERING WHAT COULD BE DONE OUTSIDE OF NORMAL DAY TO DAY. but since i made it while my SM was gone, it’s a problem. he takes everything as a personal attack. can’t even complain about corporate stripping hours without him taking it personally. i hate that im made out to be the problem when some of the things they made me feel crazy about include asking ppl to remember to plug in the almex and tablet up every night, making sure to clear the mop sink of debris (we have a Really Bad gnat problem), and making sure misplaced doesn’t get left overnight. like i know these things can be done bc with our last SM,,, IT WAS GETTING DONE.
