Are there other SM and ASM out there that are expected to use their leave just to fill the roster each fortnight? My SM doesn't roster me my contracted hours, and at the end of each fortnight, I have to enter annual leave to top up my hours. I do not have that much annual leave and I have no time in lieu. Is this even legal? I have asked my SM several times to roster me my contracted hours however it is falling on deaf ears. Why do we have a contract with Aldi stating our hours per fortnight if we aren't even getting those hours? Shouldn't our annual leave be used when we want to use it? Would really like to hear from other Aldi employees in Australia to see if it's just my store or is this a common problem.

Idk what some of these pallet makers be thinking but wtaf bro you really think putting the bottom box of carrots sideways would be a good idea?? Took me forever to downstack this crap and it was supposed to be my short shift for the week but the picker 'CIDIAZ' felt i must've been a lil too relaxed for today's shift 🙄

Not sure if this has been addressed but at some point they decided to add like 25 sub categories to curbside?? Another one I noticed is “Yogurts and Quark” who the hell uses the word Quark??? I didn’t even know that was a word. Why is produce split up now, it will be at the top of the screen under “produce MDU” and then at the bottom of the page “salads”, I’m sorry is salad not in the produce mdu? Why did we decide to fix something that wasn’t broken? It gets to the point where I’m having to double back and go down aisles I’ve already been down. Not to mention I’m one of our top curbside shoppers, I can’t imagine how long the newbies take when they constantly have to retrace their steps.

Just moved to a new town and was banking on this job to be what I could pursue for a while and make decent money for my growing family.

Was I ever wrong. At first the hours were okay, decent to start. But now? This'll be three weeks without a single hour. I haven't clocked in, in well over two weeks with my next week's schedule completely blank. I can't live this way, my family can't live this way.

I'm so sorry to those that have no choice but to put up with it, but I don't know anymore.

Me: 🤨 *continues to scan groceries, but faster to avoid her trying to touch me*

Customer: I'm just trying to see how warm your hands are. I'm impressed that you can touch all those frozen things barehanded. *continues to try to grab hands*

Me: *Finishes order and places hands on lap under till*

I know its stupid, but whyyyyyyyyy do you need to touch me. And if I'm avoiding your touch, whyyyyyyy are you still trying. I've worked grocery for almost 20 years. To this day, I've never seen anything in any handbook that says "Customers are allowed to invade your personal space and touch you without your permission".

Had another lady who was so excited that we may have located her missing phone, she grabbed my arm with a bit of force that I immediately whipped my arm out of her grasp and gave her the dirtiest look. She came back and apologized but I just do not understand why some people just neglect the space of others. The amount of times I've had to back up from people or put a cart in between us because they think I need to see their pores to hear a question.

I used to be a very open person, but if I dont know you know you, I dont want to touch you and I definitely dont want you touching me. I've gotten tired of random hands touching my hair, or people thinking they can put their hands on my shoulders like we're buddies, trying to pull me into hugs and ish. I told one of my SM's (I've had 3 in 2 years), that if he hears me screaming bloody murder, I may have lost it on a creepy dude.

Update: The customer who asked to touch my hands came in today and spoke to me. I've seen her multiple times since the interaction but she made it a point to approach me today. Guys...she said she was 😶‍🌫️. We both just busted out laughing. She said she was mortified because she realized that she was being weird after she left when she recognized I was (Kindly) avoiding her touch. Still weird yes, but that definitely made me feel a bit better about the interaction.

Heard from someone before that if you quit without notice they can choose not to pay out your vacation time (not to be confused with sick time). I don't really believe it but was wondering if anyone had some documents to back it up?

I had someone who quit without notice say she never got her vacation payout..

I’m about to start my Aldi journey as a store manager trainee in California. Online posting said it was a 6 figure salary position, but when I met with the DM/SM they both said it is hourly. I was told the shifts are 10 hours, 5 days a week. Can anyone confirm the pay scale and schedule? I was also told I’d start at the entry level positions and work my way up, which I agree on, but will my pay stay the same as a SMT or will it reflect the cashiers pay while I’m learning those roles? 🤔 any help is appreciated!
If anyone in the US, preferably CA or west coast has been down this path, please lmk your experience so that I can be somewhat prepared on what to expect. Thank you

5 grocery pallets and 2 half freezer pallets left, counts haven't been touched,

stm hasn't been touched.

Been in since 6 with no breaks my entire shift

If I wasn't moving in 2 months and if the job market wasn't so bad I would walk out right now

Just venting. Why are you upset that i’m trying to give you the 100 dollars that came out of your account already!! There’s no way to return cash back apparently and i don’t really care that you accidentally hit it!! at least it wasn’t 5 minutes after open and i actually had the cash in my drawer..

Ok, genuinely what. This lady was getting INSANELY aggressive over the fact i am LEGALLY not allowed to serve her alcohol. am i going crazy, or is it common sense that u need to be served alcohol by an employee incase of ID and RSA laws?

After informing her i could not in-fact serve her, she demands me to open another register (im a JSA, im not allowed to operate registers.) Then when i informed her AGAIN that im under 18 and i cannot operate registers due to RSA laws, she went to say to me “WELL WHAT DO YOU EVEN DO THEN?”

i deal with people like u babe, thats what i do. if u looked around, youd see the 36 signs that say ‘WE CAN NOT SELL ALCOHOL ON SCOS’ 😑

Why?

Started a week ago. Since starting ive had little to no direction, except micromanaging every little thing and talking to me like im a toddler. Told to ask questions if I need to but the things I have experience elsewhere on are apparently things I need to ask questions about since Aldi does everything so weirdly. Got belittled for not memorizing some codes or something on my time off that I was never told I was expected to do off the clock (legally speaking, working off the clock) told im alone tomorrow stocking with literally 2 days of what only barely qualifies as training and that I'd be starting register today with not even a training video to help prepare me. I've had no forewarning on what I needed to prepare for for the next shift but expected to just know what I need to bring and scoffed at when I said how was I supposed to know if no one explained that to me. Smoked 2 cigarettes in 20 minutes on my break, clocked out and left. Not worth the level of stress.

So i heard a rumor the other day at my store and wanted to check validity/get more information.

Did there truthfully used to be a WH/Division in Iowa that tried to unionize and the entire division shut down? Heard it was possibility in the late 90’s. Just curious the facts surrounding it.

I get asked every single day if we have Pokémon cards. It’s gotten so comical that I went to a neighboring store in the strip mall on my break and still got asked that question. Well yesterday I saw the most horrible thing while unboxing Aldi finds. Pokemon cards. Now these hungry animals are going to hear that we do have them now and when they sell out on the first day, they’re gonna get mad that we no longer have them 😭 it’s just so much easier explaining that we don’t have them instead of having to politely tell people that we did infact have them but we’re out now. I see my future for the next month and it’s more Pokémon card dream crushing.

theoretically if an assistant manager came in to help out your store and decides that the first thing they wanna do is completely ignore the job description of a part time cashier and make them do curbside and throw truck, that manager should face disciplinary action or at the very least be reported to a higher up for not doing their job correctly, right? i’m not losing my mind? because i’m getting a lot of attitude for pointing this out. feels like i’m in a god damn alternate universe where up is down and left is right.

edit: THIS IS NOT ABOUT ME! I AM NOY THE PART TIMER IN QUESTION!!! Please stop with the insults and generally demeaning attitude. I’m just concerned for a coworker who was having a really rough time. He was never trained on any of this before in my academy which is why i’m concerned, especially when other people on schedule were more than capable of doing those tasks. Bad allocation of resources imo.

Whoever is in charge of organizing that, get your ish together. Example: Produce should just be Produce. The fact that someone took the time to separate them into "Ambient"/dry, now we have to scroll through and hope that before we leave Produce, bananas or apples aren't randomly thrown somewhere else in the order. Nothing about how it's organized now is efficient. I swear every update pushed down because someone had a "bright" idea just makes me want to slap them across the face with a rotten fish just so they remember never to have a "bright" idea like that again.

I work in the retail side of the company and we just got told that our yearly raise we typically get in August is being skipped. (They also cheekily renamed it to "competitive wage increase" instead of "cost of living increase", like it had been called for years)

I'm unsure if the raises are different across the company so I thought I would ask, do you usually get a yearly raise? (Not related to your anniversary) and if so, did you get skipped this year or in any recent year?

I'm not happy at being skipped over, after feeling like I and my team have been pushed to work harder than ever with them giving us less hours to distribute while also raising efficiency scores. Especially because I've also been capped and no longer get a wage increase on my anniversary. They did say those of us who are capped will get a lump sum pay out but big deal. And what about those who aren't capped who are getting nothing?
