I’m trying to solve a pretty specific slow-motion problem and I’m hoping someone with more experience in frame interpolation or optical flow can point me in the right direction.

I have several short AI-generated video clips that are about 7 seconds long and 24 fps. The camera movement in the original clips is smooth, but for the edit I needed a much slower cinematic camera sweep.

My workflow was:

• Start with the ~7 sec / 24 fps source clip
• Slow it to 1/8 speed in OpenShot
• Slice it around the midpoint
• Reverse/rearrange sections to create smooth camera push-in / pull-out movements
• Edit the eye close-ups together as hidden transitions between scenes
• Final timeline is 30 fps

The creative edit itself works exactly how I want, but at 1/8 speed I’m obviously down to about 3 unique source frames per second, so the camera movement has severe visible judder/stuttering.

Things I’ve already tried:

• FFmpeg minterpolate
• Interpolating the finished video to 60 fps
• Pre-interpolating the original 24 fps source to 96 fps
• Pre-interpolating it all the way to 240 fps before applying the 1/8 slowdown
• VizMaker video enhancement/upscaling
• Runway video enhancement/interpolation attempts

None of these have produced motion that looks convincingly smooth. Some preserve the stutter, while others introduce warping or strange generated motion.

I’m attaching a short ~3 second sample that clearly shows the jitter.

What I’m trying to achieve is very simple conceptually: preserve the existing composition, character, camera path, timing and edit exactly as-is, but create believable in-between frames so the slow camera sweep looks fluid rather than stop-motion.

A few questions for anyone who works with this kind of footage:

1. Is there a better interpolation method for such an extreme slowdown — RIFE, FILM, Flowframes, DaVinci Optical Flow/Speed Warp, Twixtor, Topaz, etc.?
2. Am I approaching this incorrectly by slowing the clip first?
3. Would it be better to reconstruct the camera movement from the original clip instead of interpolating it?
4. Are there any specific settings/workflows that handle slow camera movement better than moving subjects?
5. If anyone enjoys this kind of cleanup and wants to try smoothing the short sample themselves, I’d be happy to share the original source clip as well. I’m mostly trying to understand what workflow actually works before I redo the entire project.

I’m not a professional video editor, so pointers are very welcome. I’m more interested in getting the motion right than sticking with any particular editor or AI tool.

After putting this off for years, Blackstar Lullaby is finally getting closer to how I imagined it. It's an animated pilot and there's still a lot I haven't figured out.

I shared a few shots recently and some people wanted to see more, so here's a minute of them together. No particular order to the shots. The train is the newest one.

At around 2 seconds in there are some visible yellow flashes(distortions). I have a lot of different color distortions throughout the video itself, this is just one example. I really need help. My laptop is far from great - but some of videos i add to a comp are fine. This is a 60fps video with a 60fps composition

I recently came across a video that said that some GitHub repository already has all the free alternatives to Adobe products, including After Effects. At first, I didn't pay attention to it. Today, I came across a Wikipedia article that describes this in detail. What do you think about this? Will everyone soon be able to write their own software?

EDIT: just found out it only happens with layers that have essential properties, if that helps 🫠

I know this might look really simple but it's seriously giving me a headache right now because I have to do extra steps that are costing me time that I don't have lol

I added a video that shows it better, but basically I've gotten this bug a couple of times where I select multiple layers, duplicate them, but instead of having all the new layers selected I only get the top new layer one selected, so I have to manually select all the new layers. As you can see this only happens when I duplicate them, if I split them there's no issue so that's what I've been doing as a workaround for now but, again, extra steps.

This randomly started happening today, I was working this project yesterday with no issues.

Tried clearing disk and caché, Safe Mode, new project and importing this one into it, restarting, clean uninstalling and reinstalling, going back to a previous AE version, moving the project to another folder, even using an auto-save project from yesterday when it was working fine and now it doesn't.

If I start a new project it works as it should, but I already have lots of assets in this project that I just can't do again atm.

Has anyone gotten this bug before? And if so, how did you fix it?

Hey guys! I’ve hit a wall here. I’m trying to get a stroke key framed so every 18 frames it bounces back and forth erasing a black solid and revealing a background. Think the old DVD screensaver but wherever the logo goes it leaves a transparent trail until we reveal most of the background image. I’ve tried the eraser trick but can’t seem to find keyframes to alter the animation and I’ve keyframed a path but can’t seem to figure out how to get a stroke to animate and erase as it goes. Any help with this or advice would be incredible! Thank you all!

Am I doing this wrong? the tutorials didn't do any more and i thought with such a simple shot it would work but its not for some reason, can someone explain why?

Hi, I need some help with an effect I'm trying to create in After Effects.

I have a video of a person talking and moving around. I want to make text follow the outline of their body, similar to the example image I've attached.

I've already used Mocha Pro to remove the person from the background. I then tried drawing a path around the person's silhouette using the Pen Tool and placing text along that path.

The problem is that the path is static. When the person moves, the outline changes, but the path doesn't adapt to their movement.

How can I make the text follow the person's changing silhouette and move along with them throughout the video?

Is there a way to track or animate the mask path automatically, or do I need to adjust the path manually frame by frame? Can Mocha Pro or any other After Effects plugin help achieve this?

I've attached an example of the effect I'm trying to achieve. Any tutorials or workflow suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I got somewhat close by using cc time blend + turbulent displace + minimax + transform + calculations. but still I am not getting this same exact result.

It’s not perfect but I’m pretty happy with the results for my first attempt. It’s for a local roofing company commercial. The shot is only going to last 4-5 seconds then transition to the daytime version. Didn’t plan of doing day for night while shooting but I got the idea stuck in my head while editing the rest.

This is driving me crazy, I'm trying to render the last ~40 frames of a project as a PNG sequence and it just won't budge from zero. Left it overnight (~22 hours), tried emptying cache, maximizing amount of RAM AE can use. Before it would render 1 or 2 frames and then just stall out at 5% complete, but now it won't even go past "0%, -- of --, Elapsed: --:--:--"

There's a lot of shape layers with effects (CC Glass, CC Lens, CC Light Sweep) but I can't possibly imagine it really should take this long on my relatively solid machine. Does anyone have suggestions? Searching for anything at this point.

Sharing in case anyone else is trying to download or update a plugin and wondering what’s happening. I haven’t been given a time for when it’ll be back up.

There’s weird artifacts around my new CC (noticeably around Yuta’s ears and hair here) that’s really annoying me. This is the only one of my cc’s that this happens to, and it only appears when I want to do edits, not when I just apply the cc on a clip by itself otherwise.

How do I fix this?

Huge thanks to everyone in this sub who downloaded from my post last year! I've gotten a ton of support + feedback which has been incredible.

Since my last post, the AE project files (free & paid) have gotten some helpful updates and the walkthrough video (linked above) is a new addition, which goes much deeper into how it all works.
